I've come to the understanding that the rationale of the maker is the personal need to be viewed, heard and looked up to, while the viewer's rationale is a purely voyeuristic look into another's life. In a nunnery there is a square courtyard, with a patch of grass in the middle, and a path all the way around the sides. The nuns can let the children they look after play in the courtyard, if there are two nuns on each side of the square. There are only four nuns at work on thursdays though.
