I think that the cops had no right to shoot the bear when it was running away. If the bear was trying to attack the crowd then it would be nessasary to save the people but that's just common sense and those cops acted like they were on some kind of power trip thats all.

Black Bears that live close enough to people like that are afraid of everything. There was probably no one around when it got there, and at the first sight of a human, he probably shit his pants and climbed up that tree. 19-20 times.

Regardless, the video does not adequately show the situation to the point that i am prepared to second guess the officers. Whats more, and this may seem heartless, there is no shortage of black bears, the species thrives. As for 20 shots, what kind of arms/ammo did these cops have? commonly low recoil 00 buck, .40cal, maybe .223, not exactly cannons. still sad tho...

They shot at it because it was running right at them. Look at where they are standing and shooting at and then where the bear ran out of. If a bear ran towards me id shot it. Obviously there was a problem. PEOPLE. The crowd should have been disbursed prior to dealing with the bear. The bear was not causing the problem. The people refusing to listen when asked to leave the area caused the problem. Tear gas works good for disbursing dumb asses who refuse to follow orders.

let me say first i'm a hunter and for bear hunting. the police made poor judgement. their shots were insanely far from a clean kill shot. but.....if you were a cop do you want to be in the news because a scared bear turned on a crowd of people? the cops were scared for the outcome that could have happened and made poor judgement. the bear was running away and wasn't coming back. at least not coming back right then. if he came back later then kill it.
