  • He is HOT with black hair.

  • Love this show for the good, bad and ugly. Neil Patrick may not be the strongest Emcee I've seen, but was a decent& believable performance. I give credit for committing to such a tough stage role. KUDOS!

  • omigod....I didn't know.

I fell for the Cabaret not long ago.

    I have always loved him

    shit....boner

  • Can someone put more videos of Neil Patrick Harris as Emcee? I was looking for Money and If you could see her :(

  • I hate how people think the show is "too dirty". First of all, the show is titled "CABARET". Second of all, that's how Cabaret's were at the time. That's what makes the show exciting. It feels like a real cabaret.

  • @ShaggifyThis Wellllllll, they definitely did make the revival more dirty in a modern sense. 40's cabarets were dirty....but in a 40's sense of the word. The revival made it really, really sexual to get the point across to a modern audience. The show can work in many different ways. You can go full out sexy strip club like this or you can go classier-but-still-sexy like the movie (or other productions).

  • No one will ever play this role as well as Joel Grey.

  • That was some sexy dancing!

  • Barney needs to sing this on HIMYM ahahahaha

  • I love Neil patrick Harris!Wonderful job!So sexy!

  • oh and forgot to say, he make some 90s dancing moves that are totally out of place!! And before u "attack" (for those fans) I live in Berlin, and be involved with the German production, so know Cabaret....have u ever seen for example the first ever Sally, Judi Dench version? is not true a film was turned into a stage musical! ;)

  • hey guys!! Im new in this thread, but after seeing Cabaret with some different actors, in some countries, have to say that he does a decent MC, but have to say he misses the German accent and tone. The mood of being that in nazi times, was not there....sorry!

  • @psaloz have to say that in the beginning of cabaret, the whole point is the lack of "mood of being in nazi times" which is a complete contrast to the finale of the show. I wish there was a video of NPH doing the finale.

  • he is playing this the same as Alan Cumming :/

  • @rebeccalafferty Although different actors have their own distinct and unique personalities, a REPLACEMENT actor must perform the role with the original direction, choreography, blocking, etc. So, all the Emcees [Stamos, Pascal, Esparza, Cumming, etc.] "do" the part about the same.

  • @rodanvideo Yes, this. I hate when people jump all over replacements for copying. Unless you're talking about a show like Phantom that's been running for a million years so the actors are encouraged to interpret things differently (although the bulk of their blocking remains consistent too!), shows are meant to stay more or less the way they were when they opened! I was actually really impressed with how Neil made this his own, he used different inflections even though Alan's are easy to copy!

  • @rebeccalafferty This production/revival is essentially the Sam Mendes London show, also with Cumming and the amazing Jane Horrocks as Sally. It's here, in its entirety, uploaded by mutilationfixation. It's incredible.

  • I Love NPH he is my favorite actor he is awesome in this

  • A-mazing!

  • Fun fact: Neil Patrick Harris is so many that only another man could possibly satisfy him. Trufax. :I

  • @hanfern Just because he's gay doesn't mean we women can't find him attractive and incredible. :P

  • As much as I love NPH, he doesn't hold a candle to Alan Cumming in this role.

  • @fidget68

    I agree! :-)

  • screw chuck norris- NPH can do anything.

  • He is so incredibly talented and not arrogant and spoiled at all like so many other artists. Love how he can do the french and German accent. Especially the German one is A M A Z I N G L Y good!

  • At 3:24 all I was looking at is NPH's beautiful dick! 8=======D

  • I think I kind of fell for him in "Dr. Horrible". Now, I see this, and if I could find him singing "I Don't Care Much," that's it. I'd be forever in love with NPH.

  • @ssgrobanessa

I'd die to hear his "I Don't Care Much." Did you see him in Company?

  • @EmeraldSky33 I have not! There's a bunch of NPH stuff I haven't seen.

  • Personally I prefer NPH's performance to Raul Esparza's version, although in general I rate Esparza a lot higher.

  • He's a great singer, but I just don't think he has what it is I see the emcee having in Cabaret.

  • {{swoon}}

  • Hmm. Love NPH, but... not my favorite in this.

I really want to see someone who can bring the best of both Alan's and Joel's versions.

  • Man, what a genious. Neil Patrick Harris IS a living Oscar. I wish someday I could see him on stage, too bad I live sooooo far away. :(

  • NPH is truly a god amongst men

  • Does anyone know if they sell a dvd of this or if there is a better quality video? His face is really washed out.

  • Why would he do it EXACTLY the same as Raul Esparza?

  • this guy sux with a camera

  • All that makeup makes him look like the eleventh doctor.

  • can't see his face. =(

  • completely different caliber. i am speaking of the 54 emcees.

  • That was a really good "und sagen" hip thrust.

  • SO FIERCE.

  • he is good, but no one can compare to alan cumming as emcee.

  • OMG how adorable!!!!

  • I am more than a little in love with Neil Patrick Harris :D

  • I saw him do this on Broadway...he was magnificent!

  • Thank you for sharing this!! I love his singing (well, we're far from Dr Horrible here :D), his moves, and the way he smiles (when we actually get to see his face, that is). And that's pretty amazing that he did all these different shows on TV, in movies, on stage, dubbing videogames etc. He's brilliant and complete.

  • One of the most brilliant performers ever! My favourite live production experience I've had, Heather Malls & Neil Patrick Harris were amazing!

  • Oh that is awesome. too bad you can't see him at ALL!!

  • I love Raul, but Neil was my fav Emcee!

  • I so wish he wasn't gay. *sigh* Some of his delivery was decidedly NPH instead of Emcee, but he does have a nice voice. And that was Debbie Gibson? I couldn't figure it out! She looks good.

  • Yes, it was. She was amazing in the show! I was lucky enough to see both of them in the revival and was blown away by how good it was.

  • LMAO when he grabbed the guys packages. The irony is not lost.

I loved it!!! But then again i love neil patrick harris so.... LOL.

    AWESOME. made of win :)

  • Who's that?

  • The awesome Neil Patrick Harris, of course. It's in the title.

  • i wish i could see his face ! he sounds terrific though. i don't see how he could possibly suck, i mean, he's fuckin' nph !

  • I think he did an admirable job in a very tough role. I love Neil Patrick Harris, though, so I might be slightly biased. :-)

  • I don't buy him in the role.

  • Does anyone know what happened to the video of NPH singing two ladies from cabaret. I saw it the other day and now can't seem to find, if anyone could upload it again i would be very grateful.

  • How grateful?

..Hmmm, it disappeared? I didn't even know it was posted. I'll fish around to see if it is still on the internet somewhere.

  • Wow, NPH? really good.

  • He played Tobias in "Sweeney Todd in Concert".

  • And?

  • I just thought it was an interesting fact. He is very active on the stage.

  • He's a very versatile actor. I like it when a "TV actor" or "movie actor" hits the stage. It shows commitment to his craft. Performing "live," night after night is a totally different experience from being in front of the camera for "one good take." Every actor should be in front of a live audience at least once. It's an "eye-opener."

  • @rodanvideo -- Film and TV shoots are incredibly stressful and grueling, just in very different ways from theater. Both take tremendous commitment to the craft. Every actor should have experience in both in order to be well rounded, neither one is "above" or "requires more effort" than the other.

Just my take on it, I don't mean to be rude (honest).

  • He was AMAZING as Toby! His version of "Nothing's Gonna Harm You" was so beautiful. <333

  • WHOA. He sounds... AWESOME.

  • it's crazy Debbie Gibson even looks like Liza! thats amazing!!!

  • Interesting.. but.. Liza never performed on B'way in Cabaret, just the movie, and she did not originate the role. What does it matter who looks like who?

  • i was only saying this it's kind of cool that Debbie Gibson kind of looks like Liza in this vid. i never said that her looking like liza matters just that it's cool!

  • @rodanvideo Christ you're a pedantic little feck aren't you? Have you made a single repky that doesn't attempt to undermine the person you're replying to?

  • @PuppetsNStuff  I "repky" to you: Yes, I'm pedantic. ;-}}

  • Holy crap NPH! Thanks so much for posting this!

  • I love NPH. He's so talented!

  • that's the same coreography than the cumming version no ?

  • It's the same choreography as the Cumming version, yes.

  • You win for posting this.

  • I love that all these women are in Love with NPH because he is a Gay man. LOL

  • Oh trust us, if he were straight, we'd still love him. ;D

  • who caresss

    He's hot.

    <3

  • You have a great attitude:) He is a cutie. If you want to see some very sexy photos of NPH Look for an Issue of a gay mens magazine called Mandate. NPH is on the cover and he is interviewed. There are also sone sexy photos with the artical. WARNING! Mandate is a GAY magazine and may have some Adult articals and Nude photos. The NPH Photos are sexy and shirtless not nude but ther may be other nudes in the issue. Sorry if I was to forward. I'm really a very nice guy:)

  • There is no woman in that relationship. They are both very much men. That's the point. It drives me crazy when people have to talk about homosexual relationships using heterosexual terms.

  • Actually, I wasn't being angry, I was just making a point. You're the one who got angry. Considering that I'm a straight woman, it's probably pretty unlikely that I somehow manage to give gay men a bad name. I wasn't making a personal attack against you, I just stated my opinion about a phenomenon that bothers me.

  • I actually know quite a bit about gay culture, and I know several homosexual people, men and women, who agree with me on that specific point. I don't mind agreeing to disagree, but you don't speak for the entire gay and lesbian population when you say "we."

Seriously though, I come in peace. I wasn't angry when I wrote the first comment, and I'm not angry now. I didn't realize this was such a touchy issue. I apologize if I've upset you somehow; that certainly wasn't my intention.

  • I'm sorry if I jumped on you but I get sick of people speaking for the "gay community", Even other gay people. The fact is the gay community is vast and diverse. Some gay men feel comfortable using interchangeable gender identifiers in a joking manner and others like your friends are all uptight and want to force their PC attitude down everyones throat. I personaly don't care for people forcing their PC ideas on the world.

  • It's not a problem; I'm not offended and never was. I certainly wasn't presuming to speak for the "gay community." Obviously it's just fine for a couple to refer to themselves and each other however they please. I come from a very conservative area and grew up defending my gay brother and friends against homophobes who assume that being gay somehow makes you less of a man. That's what I was reacting against; I wasn't trying to shove anything down anyone's throat.

  • Well at least you are willing to discuss it without calling me a fag:) I don't think it really matters anyway I was only being camp which most gay men understand and accept. My partner and I don't refer to one another in Fem terms and we don't usually refer to others that way either but to do so is not a crim or an insult in any way. I just wish people would stop being so over sensative and be able to laugh at themselves and laugh at the haters as well. Can't we all just get along? :).....

  • I'm certain that I am oversensitive. Unfortunately, after my brother was once landed in the hospital by some "haters," it's been a little hard for me to laugh at homophobia. Like I said, obviously gay men and women are free to refer to each other however they please, and I definitely understand camp. If I'd known you were gay, I wouldn't have said anything to begin with. =)

  • that was a very interesting conversation that just went on from this comment...

  • Hmmm, I thought by now, someone would surely play the old "bible-quote" card!

Perhaps these "commenters" should view my Wayland & Madame clip. Then they could make equally non-tangential comments about THAT video. No - "tangent" isn't the correct word... Errrrr - - it's "askew."

Wow, NPH is just a hired actor, performing a role for money. He's ACTING. Why are some people ready to launch a full-scale attack? Good luck ever getting a decent haircut!

This country is in sad shape, attitude-wise.

  • nph is such a man. he can pull off any act he wants.

  • when was this done? because it looks like the same girls from the Raul version...did they perform back to back?

  • I would pay good money to see this with better quality. I'd also need a drool bucket. NPH is <3

  • He's great, and I love NPH more and more - but why does this video have an adult warning when all the other versions of the same song from the same show with the same coreography, words, and skin (no worse that tv) don't?

  • Cuase NPH dose this SEXIER then the other. :3

  • i wish you could see his face. he has a gorgeous face.

  • 6:06-6:08 is so funny, lol.

  • i wish you could see his face better :( <3

  • Glorious :D I would have loved to have seen this live...NPH sure is an all around talent!! Thanks for uploading ^^

  • I LOVE NPH EVEN MORE NOW!!!!!

  • man, he's totally amazing.

  • freaking amazing!!!!!!

  • Oh man, I saw this show live in NYC. NPH was absolutely amazing in this production. One of the best Broadway performances I have ever seen.

  • was he in the original cast? or a replacement?

  • I believe he was one of several replacements that came after Alan Cumming was unavailable in the 1998 run

  • Do you have this full show? If you do, I have plenty to trade...

  • Yup!

Send me a private message, please.

  • thats vitor! lol love it

  • I didnt know he could do stage things, he is good, hope he does more, a talented young dude. Do More Niel!

  • yeah he was in rent, proof, and a concert version of sweeney todd. he's just excellent.

  • Wow usually I don't like to see TV actors doing theater because they lack the special something that stage actors have to bring to the table. (And they have a hard time singing...)

BUT NPH ... could have my babies...After he did every sexy male part in Broadway history. Yes'm that man is talented...everywhere it seems. Too bad he is of the opposite persuasion...

  • wish I coulda been there in person.. looks like a good production.. NPH has a good voice. was this an off broadway production ?

  • No he did this for 6 months on broadway.

  • i'll say one thing. NPH sure knows how to get those positionings snapping on cue.

  • WHOA.

    He sounds... AWESOME.

  • OMG NPH have my babies!

  • uhm i love neil patrick harris.

  • Neil Patrick Harris is one of the most versatile actors I have ever seen, a real amazing talent.

  • I love how every actor has a different view of the Emcee. I think Neil was very good here. I wish I could see some other clips though *hint hint* ;)

Anyway, Joel Grey still owns my soul.

  • i actually saw this at studio 54 a few yrs ago. it was amazing.

  • Who was playing the Emcee... Neil?

  • oui

  • I love Neil. He is a brilliant actor and a terrific role model.

  • i like the movie joel grey hes too dramatic and no expresion

  • Let me figure out what you've written. Errr... I like the movie with Joel Grey better. Neil is too dramatic, yet lacks expression. Is that it?

-The movie is WAY different than this B'way revival. The emcees were not directed the same, nor were they meant to be the same.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • That was surprisingly good!

  • Thanks for posting this. I have never seen video of NPH's Emcee before.

  • I tend to agree with you that Neil's casual is better than Raul's arrogant. I don't suppose you happen to have any other clips of Neil's songs, particularly I Don't Care Much, do you?

    Thanks for uploading this.

  • ...F*** it's Toby!!!

  • he's not doing it really good...it's really lame...he has voice but no talent or creativity

  • he soo sexy hehee

  • oh neil patrick harris. I AM A FAN.

  • Who's playing Sally in this?

  • Read a comment from 11 months ago by AlexCorpVideos. He tells who played Sally.

  • OMG! It looks like Debbie Gibson!

  • I wish my school was doing the long version.

  • he probably had sooo much performing in this!

    We love Neil!

  • he's good....but wad mccollum by far has the best performance of the Emcee that I have ever seen.

  • he's good....but wad mccollum by far has the best performance of the Emcee that I have ever seen.

  • its sorta hard to see his face. Not a bad job...

  • its a cookie cutter performance, a good one but deffinatley(sP) a cookie cutter, by the way, a fun vidio though dark

  • i liked it... but he's to american for the role....he didnt in ANY way do badly... but he doesnt have a great german accent...tis all

  • This is kind of disappointing to watch. Norbert Leo, Alan Cummings, and John Stamos were so much better in this role. He didn't get nearly much mileage out of some of the funny parts, and his pacing was really slow and dead.

  • um...what about about Joel Grey?

  • you cant really compare the above people with joel gray, brilliant as he is, because theyre so different

  • Emcee is seriously one of my favorite characters on stage, and Neil does a freakin fantastic job!

  • wow...i actually REALLY love how neil interpreted emcee..he's so much fun to watch! i LOVE this!!

    thanks for posting!

    do you have money?

    or, two ladies?

or, if you could see her? (thats the gorilla suit one, right?)

if so, could you post them?

    that would be INCREDIBLE!

    please!?

  • first off, NPH is so amazing. Second, is that Susan Egan as Sally?

  • If you were to read all 80 comments EEEEEKK!!, you would see that Debbie Gibson played Sally in this clip. ;-}

Ahhh?? - Neil is good, but not really amazing. I DID like the way he acted a bit more "playful" than Raúl or Alan. John Stamos was pretty-much as playful when he was Emcee-ing. If you'd like, go to w w w ibdb dot com and search cabaret [revival], then click on "replacements" to see who played what.

  • I just like how he brought a little bit of himself into this performance while still keeping the persona of the emcee. Sometimes I think that Raul and Alan detached themselves a little too much alhtough I am completely amazed by them as well. I knew that Debbie Gibson was in the cast with Niel but she looked so different in this video than in the others and she looked SO MUCH like Susan Egan that I had to make sure :-p

  • lol he actually sounds like he is speaking the languages.

  • Huh??

  • a good accent, I think.

  • I've seen Cabaret live thrice, and each time has been the short version of Willkommen. I know NPH references giving head as how to tell Bobby and Victor apart. But in other recordings, I have never heard the audience respond like that. What is the normal motion/gesture done to show how you can tell them apart. I always took it as being un/circumsized.

  • In the Mendes B'way revival:

There IS no gesture usually. NPH put the tongue-cheek-bit in himself.

But later on, the Emcee grabs both Victor's and Bobby's crotches at the same time, then announces, "That's Victor," comparing [I presume] their SIZE. I guess that he's played with them both and can ID their "members"!! It's the audiences guess as to whether Victor is the smaller or larger one!!! I'm sure everyone assumes larger, though.

At least, that's my "take" on it.

  • Not sure exactly why it would make sense in my mind to compare their circumcision status. Thanks :)

  • The prompt book/music doesn't give a specific line. In fact, that entire section of introductions is basically ad libbed as far as the script goes. (All this being said in reference to the '98 revival version I have in hand)

  • I would have probably enjoyed this vid more, if the cameraman would have had better control of the camera! lol.

But besides that NPH does a great job as teh Emcee.

  • alan cumming does a much better job with the first set of "cabaret"s (in german french and english) with the hand movements

ACs accent is better too. he seems to commit to the character a bit more

nph is still a great singer/actor. loved him in assassins :)

  • I like the version with Alan Cumming better...But that's just my opinion NPH is nice too.

  • I think that nthis guy is great. He acts liek a real emcee would do. Alan makes it seem too sexual and racy. The REAL cabaret wasnt like alan cummings version at all. of course Joel is always the best. ^_^

  • I agree, I do think that Alan Cummings takes it too far. But, it's all about really what the director's concept is. I like Alan Cummings' version a lot because it makes me laugh; but I think that he could have made it a little less racy.

  • It's so good seeing NPH doing something like this, he's so talented.

I wish i could see his face a little better though.

  • I think Neil and Alan are both GREAT as the Emcee.

  • He's no Alan Cumming.
