  • this level took me 7 minutes, and you did it in around 2 minutes. i suck. i will go commit seppuku now.

  • holy shit why the hell does a postal truck want to run over sonic. must be some crazy redneck.

  • Kinda sad that they use 4 freaking cities in this game... but they are so awesome it does not matter that much :)

  • man in car: what a nice day to drive *sees sonic* huh? what the heck was that thing? *sees truck* man: HOLY! SHIT!!!

  • that truck wanted to kill sonic at the speed of sound!

  • Cool Video

  • so they want sonic for apparently stealing an emerald. yet they dont mind a big lorry weilding manic driving through everything?

  • @peggythefighterpilot no they don't only because he is in the army. Figures

  • damn. sonic should keep that original city escape song. sounds kick ass.

  • I'm pretty sure that Sonic used his snowboard once in Sonic 3 and again in Sonic Triple Trouble (also known as Sonic and Tails 2)

  • A lot of people are saying this but... Who would build a house in the middle of the road!?

  • sa2 was my favorite sonic game

  • Sonic has used a skateboard in Sonic Triple Trouble for the Game Gear. That help?

  • You cannot match the power of the Finish Post

  • sorry but the music fucking sucks! it lost its punky rock feel for something poppy! My childhood memories are hurt.... :(

  • @BossLetsPlayer mine too

  • i like all the levels, this one took a few goes to enjoy it. the truck in this ruins it. act 2 its needed, for level from sonic adventure 2 , metal harbor would have been better. but cant have 2 ocean area levels oh well its still great

  • Azura Thanks :D

  • Azura you must make a video were you sing City Escape!

  • That trucker is definitely losing his license.

  • in honesty, this was the easiest Classic stage i played, as for not memorizing a path, well you'll know when you fund it, i used to take several random paths but after multiple playthroughs i found myself sticking to one in particular. Modern Sonic, full of nostalgia from the real City Escape, the theme just didnt give it the awesome, kick-ass feeling the original did, but its not horrendous. i think City Escape as a level was pretty good, id still say the best level is Speed Highway

  • I half agree with Azzie on this one. Classic Sonic's version of this level got pretty annoying after several tries, and it took me quite a while to get an S rank for classic. Modern Sonic, however, this level is probably one of my favorites. I still find myself pulling tricks on the board, and although the truck with a rocket engine and sawblades freaked me out, I got a good laugh from it. Also loved the music remix for both stages.

  • i have to honestly say i love this level mostly for the music and thats why i like the game in general because they added all the great music from the other games

  • i was playing threw this level and noticed there were mighty and ray missing posters through out the stage

i hope sega gives them some more love in future games

  • That damn truck...

  • Holy fuck, G.U.N. truck guy gone mental this time around!

  • the song was cool but this level felt a tad bit short

  • Lol the truck can't even find you anymore.

  • ROLLIN' AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND

  • @seaweedsupper GOT PLACES TO GO, GOTTA FOLLOW MY RAINBOW!

  • If it wasn't for the truck, I would have preferred to see White Jungle or Green Forest personally.

  • I love what they've done with the music.

  • Man, you're great at Sonic!

  • That last paragraph explains why I don't like your videos of this game.

Part of what made the Classic games so great was the flow based platforming. In certain areas you would move quickly, while in others you would need to slow down a bit for a platforming section, this was never a bad thing, and I'd rather see you move a bit slower than watch you spindash spindash spindash spindash all over the place.

  • This remix of City Escape sounds more like something I'd come up with, not something I'd expect to hear in a official release...

  • Green forest was personally my favorite SA2 level for sonic.

  • The more and more I see of this the more I want it! I love the whole concept of this game in taking stages from various Sonic games and turning them into 2D and 3D versions. Kinda neat playing stages that were originally 2D as 3D Sonic and vice versa. I'll definitely be picking it up if I don't get it for my birthday/Christmas

  • Yo that G.U.N got's some probblems for sonic going crazy and shit.....LOL

  • that truck did not just go through a building

  • *Sigh* I knew they'd fuck this song up when they remixed it...

  • .... Oh my God what did they do to it? The scenery, the music. It's terrible!

  • Running around at the speed of sound.. loved that music back in the dreamcast days

  • Which level would you have preferred from SA2 to appear in SG instead then? I guess if it wasn't City Escape, I would probably choose Metal Harbor or Pyramid Cave.

  • @RetroChris15 It's not that City Escape was a bad choice (in fact, it's probably one of the best choices they could have made, as this level really stands out on Sonic Adventure 2).

However, if I could pick any other level from Sonic Adventure 2 for Generations, I'd probably pick Final Rush. The obligatory space-themed level with lots of wicked jumping, rail-grinding, meteor smashing and stuff.

But then again, I guess we already get the Rival Battle against Shadow on Final Rush...

  • I never understood why, in SA2 and esp this, the monster truck was so gung-ho on running Sonic down. I mean, in Generations it actively pursues him!

  • That truck is pretty damn unnerving if you ask me.

  • I believe there was a skateboard in one of the Game Gear games, and he was riding one in one of the many Sonic Adventure concept arts, from which we also learned Amy has no toes.

  • I would've [icked Green Forest or Pyramid Cave for an SA2 level. But that's just me.

  • Wow, I like how they implemented classic sonic in this level.

  • That truck is out for blood now.... O_o

  • I found things got difficult after Seaside Hill, personally. But you are right, the platforming starts here unless you can't speed run a Sonic game, then it's Sky Sanctuary.

I still hate Modern Crisis City, so much that I D ranked the doppelganger mission...

  • clasic sonic sucks MODERN SONIC FTW!

  • @Metalkick1 hmm well is there any other evidence on sonic riding a skateboard

  • Well... That's one way to try and kill someone! xD

  • i freaking love the music.

    gotta get this game fast

  • seeing this video just made me the happiest person ever, they brought back my fav level ever!! thank you so much azureblade49 (forgot your real name sorry lol) for posting this video :D

  • I think classic sonic used a skateboard in one level in, well, one of the classic games.

Honestly, I thought you'd complain about the music in the classic version, though I guess its OK when you're playing the game, but the OST version of it is shit. Also, I personally believe the guys who made the levels just got a 'cheatsheet' of what the levels actually were, for example this level involves way too much platforming. But that's to be expected: its not a first level like in the original.

  • WTF is wrong with that truck?!

  • That level looked like a travesty to traverse. I would've been freaking out the whole way through, 'cause I just know that truck is gonna catch me.

  • that semi just destroyed my fucking house!!!

  • This was one of my favorite levels because of its complexity. While it wasn't hard, it did have me test out different methods frequently. I don't know why, but I liked that.

  • The City Escape Song of Generation sucks :( Where is the energy of this Song that i was loving so much? :(

  • @DidYouKnow01

"Escape from the City" from Sonic Adventure 2. Or the Sonic Generation version of it at least

  • Wow that's an awesome remix

  • Sonic + Killdozer = <3

  • I couldn't enjoy the song =/

  • Whoever designed those streets should be arrested lol

  • Nothin' like watching you play a classic stage to demolish my confidence in speed running.

  • he slid down the street on a wing from Tornado in this level didn't he?

  • @carsoncapps It was a wing off of a military helicopter.

  • @AzureBlade49 hey as a speedrunner like me which i got a 1:36 time on this level is this your favorite level to speedrun cause this is my favorite level to speedrun as classic sonic.

  • I hope those people in not!San Fransisco have good homeowner's insurance.

  • Something about this stage in generations that just doesn't click for me either, by no means is it a bad stage, just something is lacking.

  • azure, question! Did you get your name from the ogre battle 64 instruction manual?

  • @TheGameTechnician Never played any of the games in the Ogre Battle series, so I have no idea what you're referring to.

  • @AzureBlade49 its just funny, because if you look at one of the tutorial pictures in the instruction manual, really closely of ogre battle 64, they name their army the azure blades. The game however automatically suggests the blue knights though.... crazy coincidence!

  • never knew classic sonic could skateboard ◔̯◔

  • @BrokenDarkHero and that face?? ''◔̯◔'' xD

  • This is my favorite song

  • MEMORIES!!

  • Who peed in that truck driver's cornflakes?

  • City Escape is one of my all time favorite levels in any Sonic game and I don't know why. It's half the reason I want this game on consoles.

  • @AzureBlade49 I think they tried to update the stage too far, to try and make it as if you were playing a level from their respective games, instead of just remaking the feeling of the level in terms Modern and Classic can understand. They warped the mood of the level, and as such, our expectations fell short.

  • City Escape was my favorite stage in SA2. Hearing the remix of City Escape just made my day.

  • I personally liked that the GUN Truck became a bigger part of the level in the Classic act, but yeah, it doesn't pay too deep of an homage to the original.

  • wow.

  • i guess azure usualy has that way with trucks

  • I agree, I do not like this level very much. It's a shame =(

  • @ocdfreak act 2 is really good though. but yah its missing the platforming of the origional in bot. this ones just annoying in some ways. AND THEY RUINED THE SONG(in my opinion)

  • I completely agree with Sonic Generations take on both acts of City Escape. They didn't feel right.

  • I personally am loving the Classic look of Sonic more than the Modern look of Sonic. He's just SO adorable!

  • LOL, they might as well change the background music to that truck smashing and devouring the city.

  • Catchy music

  • i certainly didnt expect you to dislike this stage, but its your opinion, i respectfully disagree

  • Azure, I think it's nostalga vision if you remember every Sonic level (especially early ones) as being fast all the time.

  • @CamTheKitty I know that the originals weren't all super-fast levels, especially Sky Sanctuary or Crisis City (except for a certain part involving a tornado carrying cars), but the games all tried to incorporate the illusion of speed in some way to make them feel better. Chemical Plant, for example, would allow you to outrun the screen by rolling through certain loops.

  • @AzureBlade49

While I agree with you there, I also remember the OMG slowness of the marble zone or whatever following greenhill. You're right though

  • @CamTheKitty But Marble Zone had epic music. It's true what you say though, the level was pretty much designed to kill any feeling of speed you could possibly have.

  • Awesome gameplay dude and did sonnnic use a skateboard in the tv show?

  • @Capell00007 Yes, Sonic used skateboard in the TV show "The adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog", episode "Time Traveling Skateboard" it could be a reference to the TV show, but I personally don't think so.

  • I'm guessing this is your least favorite level in Generations.

  • Best throwback in the game hands down

  • F*CK YEAH! They remixed Escape From the City for this game. Can't say I care for how slow they made it, but still. Favorite Sonic song after Knight of the Wind.

  • "This sign warns of a dangerous fall!"

NAW, REALLY? I thought a sign that shows Sonic falling meant I had to jump!

  • I think in one of the game gear games there's a skateboard. "Triple Trouble", or something.

  • There's something that just feels off.

  • Oh my god, what did they do to the city escape theme!?

  • @ShadeOfAtheism They gave it a classical remix, to make it feel more appropriate to his era.

  • @AzureBlade49 ...I'm assuming you're trolling me, but I can't tell, so I'll explain it to be safe.

I know what they did to it. I just think it sucks when compared to the original.

  • I'm gonna disagree with you to the moon Azure, I fucking love this level.

  • @ZXReploidHunter To each their own, mate. To each their own.

  • ...im sorry this...just does not work, the music, the level as a whole. it just doesnt relate to city escape at all.

  • @musicmant20

    Unpleasable fanbase lol

  • @CamTheKitty Actually, as a long-time fan of a lot of Sonic's games over the last 10 years, even I feel that the level is missing a lot of charm that was in the original. I can't put my finger on what it is exactly, but it doesn't feel quite right. Even then, it's not a terrible level by any means, just a little lacking, especially in contract to the much more powerful feel that Speed Highway was able to offer.

  • City Escape theme is awesome. Sonic looks adorable skateboarding. xD

  • ALL OF MY NOSTALGIA.

  • 1:35 Amy's Market

    1:36 Coffee*Blaze

    1:38 Tails' Pizza

  • Nope He used a SnowBoard in Sonic 3 and Sonic Adventure 1. But In Sonic Adventure 2 He used a Piece of the Helicopter as a Snow/SkateBoard.

  • He never skateboarded in any of the earlier games but it could be Sega just trying to add another element to Sonic gameplay. Just as they did with the snowboard, but I do admit, Sonic on a skateboard doesn't make as much sense.

  • @Timberwolf23 I guess they wanted to make it more flat and upwards even though in city escape sonic was on a snowboard contraption. I was a metal slab ripped from a helicopter that he slid on. No wheels, why didn't Sega use that?

  • @themagicalgamer They did use it in Act 2.

  • that city escape music remix was bloody catchy and pleasant to hear

  • yikes!!! that damn truck!!!!

  • Loved the music on this act

  • both versions

  • I love city escape

  • Soooo many plays of this in SA2...

  • Why no commentary?

  • Another great vid, thank you very much.
