Amazing actress who's work stands the trials of time and wins out in every performance. (I hope her films are perserved!) There will never be another Susan Hayward!
Susan was a most beautiful soul. We loved her. She was such a great actress. They don't make them like her any more. The studios trained them kept them
Under their wing. They had certain standards of behaviour that was expected. Not like today stars they are thrown to the wolves . And not managed correctly. It's too bad. So many starlets turn up in trouble. Or in bad straights.
The Best Actress ever. Susan should have won the Oscar for this film, she richly deserved it. It was a big upset for her. She will always be the Best Actress in my book. I loved her dearly. Her biggest fan.
Susan was bitterly dissapointed losing this one - and felt " I want to live" was a concolation prize- her impact on both films - was worth any prize - only Stanwyck could have done justice to the 2 films mentioned! Susan Hayward the Best ever!
She did all her own singing for this film - publicity at the time made much of the fact, she herself revealed in interviews how she was persuaded to sing vy the musical diretor, and I have the MGM ep record of all the songs. Her greatest fan
God, she was beautiful! My late mother was an alcoholic, and also an actress years before she met my father. She always could turn it on, even when three sheets to the wind, just like the character here. Yes, that's not Susan's voice. And I agree, it's very difficult to fake a drunk, and Susan has it down cold. Sadly, I know from experience looking at it.
Unique is the word for this beautiful and talented acttress. She was always great in her roles despite some of her roles that did not live up to her talent.
Miss Hayward simply the best actress I have ever seen on screen. Working with profesionals as Frederic March, Peter Finch, Bill Holden, Greg Peck, John Wayne, and great directors such as Henry Hathaway, henry King, A stellar gallery of great portraits of troubled women: Smash Up,
My Foolish Heart, With A Song In My Heart, and her oscar winning perf in I Want To Live.
Susan however always felt this film so well directed by Daniel Mann was her favorite. Who am I to argue with the great Susan?
THE BEST PERFOMANCE ABOUT A DRUNK EVER!!!and given, this time, by a beautiful star!! what a perfomance, and how she changes the tones of her voice when she is drunk..amazing.Susan has guts..NO DOUBT. Carlos from Argentina
I am so glad that MGM agreed to use her own vocals in this movie. Her rendition of this beautiful ballad is a testimony to her talent. I love Susan and this one of her best!
That is her voice. Some confusion has been created by the fact that Sandy Ellis was originally hired to dub her, before they went with Hayward herself, and her versions are also included on the soundtrack CD.
Roth by Hayward- a real original played by an original. Funny, when people think of great screen actresses, Susan Hayward doesn't usually come to mind, but it ought to.
Awesome to see; Thanks for sharing. SHe was great. I remember her in a movie that her character was facing the gas chamber. When I was a kid they must have played it on TV every month. Her and John Wayne were both supposedly exposed to radiation while filming some movie in the desert which led to their deaths of cancer. Again thanks!
Just got into her movies thru a friend.
One of the best actress's I've seen / along Cher.
Thanks.

Miss Hayward always considered this her favorite performance and the film's director Danny Mann her favorite Director.
Miss Hayward won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for this film but lost the Oscar to Anna Magnani.
A few years later Susan Hayward justly won the Oscar for her brilliant

I think you're thinking of Olivia de Havilland in "The Snake Pit." She was terrific also, in a different way than Susie.
