In competition the direction of flip is mandatory. To ensure that the airplane flips the correct direction most pilots use a 5 degree "cheat". Once the airplane begins to fall backwards the airflow will hit the top of the horizontal stab and cause the airplane to flip backwards. Full forward stick accelerates the flip (all controls are reversed when flying backwards). Very peaceful and quiet really, not as violent as it looks....
acropilot300, 5 degree instruction (5 deg beyond vertical?). did you say "Pull Forward?" When backflip pendalum occurs does aeroplane ever flip down beyond vertical? Bet you left your stomach behind doing those!
@paulman92 At the school where I teach it takes between 10 and 20 hours to become solo qualified in a Decathlon. This includes basic aerobatics and a tailwheel endorsement. The school is called Sunrise Aviation.
@acropilot300 ok. thank you very much. i would love to take lessons at your school but unfortunately i live in michigan...I love all the videos you have posted though. Keep them coming!
A student of mine let me borrow his Clarity Aloft while we flew his 300L. I was impressed with the noise attinuation and the comfort, but the headband was way too big for my head and it flopped around a bit. The elastic band didn't help. Another student of mine had a QT Halo and it has an adjustable headband. The adjustable headband plus the owner of QT's willingness to make me a custom chord with a single point helicopter connector in the line sold me on the QT Halo vs. the Clarity Aloft.
@acropilot300 Luckly I have a huge head ( I guess it finaly came in handy). Plus I don't think the manuevers we pull in the whopping 172 and seminole are nearly as exciting as you guys get...though as instructors we do get the "right rudder....right rudder, oh dear god right rudder"

This is pretty awesome. acropilot300, you should probably know this. How long does it take to get a basic aerobatic certification?

Greatest thing to happen to headsets...I have a Clarity Aloft and it's the greatest headset I've ever used.
