I first heard this song in 1987, I got see them in 1987 in the Bay Area, and I became a monster fan of guitarist George Martinelli in 1987 (and as a double bonus, got to see one of my all time favorite bass players, Joe Puerta who I loved in Ambrosia). This band was so killer live. And they are all multi-instrumentalists. I've seen BH a couple of times since and he always is engaging, but nothing that brings down the house like their early shows.
OH this man writes and plays and sings such beautiful music. Don't know what he's doing now. I wish he would just come back and give us some more.. Genius
bruce :ive already bought the record when it came out. ill pay you for another one when you refund my money! or better yet ill dig it out of my attic and mail it back to you that way you'llknow for sure i wont be stealing your customers.
if you're goin for a good long drive just put on the first pair of hornsby albums. can't go wrong with tunes like this, "every little kiss," or "valley road"
@bucky468 Hornsby doesn't allow it. He's very adamant about this, let me tell you.
I strung together a homemade video some time back to his song "Across the River" and was in turn threatened with court action. Eeee, Bruce, loosen it up a tad eh?
@bucky468 Bruce Hornsby has implemented a very aggressive copyright violation policy on YT. Any studio version uploaded is immediately given a strike and rejected. I know this from personal experience - I used to be able to upload videos longer than 15 mins but my Hornsby "River Runs Low" violation strike took that privilege away. Moral: Don't f*ck with Bruce. ;-}
@PalerShadeOfWhite Why doesn't he just post his own vids if he doesn't want this? In the meantime I'll just have to settle for buying the album or buying the songs individually.
@mrromantimothy Was there ever a video of "On The Western Skyline"? Maybe I'll have to drop a line at BH's channel & put in a request for it. It must be a Sony-BMG Legacy Recordings thing b/c the Boss & Dylan must have a similar policy like that of BH.
@bucky468 yeah, ive seen it on mtv back then if a song was getting radio airplay shooting a video for mtv was mandatory then mtv started creating its own bands and videos and slipping them into the pipeline ,this worked so well they soon had a stranglehold on the entire music industry sqaushing anyone who got in their way then.,milli vanilli had a wardrobe malfunction and despite their efforts to cover it up exposed everything. mtv graduallyt nibbled the "m"out of tv with dumb shows, they have
every video ever made which gets to my point. ijust saw it yesterday "forget you tube" mtv is launching its own versionof you tube!! the music industry by going uderground is still alive and well..and will always be first, theres alot of people like me thatare telling mtv to stick their music uta! and go back to the real world! long live you tube! and may it never pander to the sellouts!
That was an awesome tour. "The Range" played the Fabulous Fox Theater in St. Louis, which was just perfect for the staging and the sound. "Crowded House" opened the show.
Bruce moved away from the pop tunes soon after, but I will always revel in the lush but plaintive walls of emotion he created in that period and especially on "The Way It Is". Wonderful stuff.
Bravo, Bruce! I hope you follow the lead of Roger Waters and take the whole album on tour, cut for cut. 25th anniversary tour?
@billysings That would be pretty cool. I'd luv to see Bruce play his old albums on tour in their entirety. It worked out pretty well for that other Bruce (Springsteen) so why not? The only thing is, Bruce has really gotten away from this style (pop/rock) sound that he created with the Range & i'm not sure he'd want to go back to it again. Plus he's getting older. He's said in interviews that he has no interest in reliving the past. But who knows? Maybe he'll have a change of heart someday.

Love this song & this is why I love YouTube, right here. Because you occasionally get to see Very Rare concert clips like this one. Where in the world did you find this at? I have a rare live concert of Bruce & the Range from this time period but I never saw them on video until 1990. If you have any more from this show, please post them. You'd be making ALOT of old fans very happy.
About around early 1986 i started getting totally into Country music because i didn't like the direction Pop Music was going anymore. Since then the only New Music i have followed and listen to on the Radio is Country Music so i cannot tell you about the name of any New Pop Music Singers or Groups after 1985.
Music has gone to shit ever since the early to mid 90's. Grunge sucks ass Pearl Jam is the only good band that came from grunge. Alice in Chains is not that bad though. Thank god for Hootie & The Blowfish they kicked ass. I can only think of 6 bands that kicked ass and were popular in the 90's; how fucking sad is that? I feel the same way about the 21st century; there are less bands that kick ass and more bands that SUCK ASS. Lol
Saw them on this tour at Garden City Arts Center in New Jersey. The opening act never showed, they came on to a restless crowd, opened with this, and it was fantastic. They used to take requests from the audience & jam on anything you could imagine.
@LazyScott99 cool!...my two favorite artists are rush and bruce hornsby. we must be musical soulmates! I also like peter gabriel, VH, mclachlan, imogen heap, paula cole, genesis, phil collins....
