so after they run power rangers to the ground they decide to sell PR and buy the marvel heroes instead? Don't get me wrong, i like japanese heroes like PR (PR is an american remake of a japanese tv show NOT produced by disney) and i love disney (classic disney like lion king and mulan, not teen pop disney like High School Musical), but i don't like what they're doing with superheroes. if Disney wants superheroes, they should stick with stuff like sky high and the incredibles.
All of you idiots seriously need to calm down about this. Disney is a company that owns other companies like ABC, ESPN, Dimension, and Miramax so it doesnt mean anything. Its going to be over two years since Disney bought Marvel and they havent changed anything so everybody needs to relax.

Hey, Disney bought pixar in 2006, and since then, pixar made their best movies! The big reason why we all hate Disney so much is because of that crap known as the Disney channel. Besides, IM2 didn't have a musical number...
@TheAcidskull nothing has. the most that has is that we know that in context all of marvels movies are disney movies. but remember thats only in context.
this is what i'm wondering, does anyone at all who thinks this is a bad deal have any true insight and connections at all in the business world to for sure know what the hell disney will be doing with marvel? does anyone? these are just pissed off antisocial jaded people who think disney is literally run by mickey mouse
Disney has always been a smart company, since their the reason some of the more adult rated films I've seen in theaters were released... I mean, they owned miramax till 2005, which by that time has released almost every Kevin Smith film like Clerks 1&2, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob, they also released the Kill Bill series, and just a few other movies that you would never think was from Disney, but Disney was the company that allowed those films to be produced.
Well, no Jonas Brothers as super heroes...but how about High School Musical's Zac Efron in Michael "Marvel" Bendis' Fire?___Sure, no happy wolverine, but did you see that last movie...EMO Wolverine for sure. Miramax was just shut down by Disney. Pixar was left alone because they did cutesy kid stuff, they never had anything remotely mature. Also, Spider-Man is now being "Re-Imagined" by Sony afraid of the Mouse House might take it back if they don't continue to make them. So yeah, this deal sux
the only way i would trust disney with marvel is if prince of persia is good cause their directing that and the Venom movie is going to be directed by disney and i want it to be bad ass not happy go lucky disney crap
a great move for disney.. these companies are just bringing entertainment.. I think disney will not change their main icons.. watch out for hidden mickey in upcoming movies of marvel characters..LOL
BOTTOM LINE: Disney is for kids...always! Marvel will lose some street cred. Sounds silly? trust. When you're reading your precious comic book there will be that little Mickey Mouse voice in the back of your head laughing! and saying "I own you bitch!...hahahaha"

Honestly I don't think Disney would let Marvel fans down, it just sounds funny because of the two totally different reputations, Disney has been making some pretty somewhat serious movies like Pirates and National Treasure. Disney please don't change the Marvel Logo lol.
I think every one is worried about the comics they read. Not necessarily them coming out with watered down versions. I mean, they already have Superhero squad and i don't see every one up in arms about that. Marvel already had that crappy Kid Avengers dvd come out. I mean, c'mon, can Disney really do worse than that? The new Iron Man animated sucks! it's on fricken' Nickelodean!!!

How come i never heard any of this before?geez i really hope disney let marvel do there own thing and dont interfere with our comics...i mean disney...?how does marvel comics even relate to that childrens company?
First off Disney is going to fudge up everything for Marvel. Why? you ask simple, Disney will not put there name behind characters like Iron Man, Punisher, Wolverine and the list goes on because those characters do not have the Disney image. Disney will mess with the comics too because they cannot show kids the type of stuff that is going on in the X-Force comics these days. For example blood, guts, brain damage, heads being sliced off. This is the worst thing to ever happen to the comic bizz =(
I think you are correct that the comics are relatively safe, but that the television and film interpretations may come out a bit more pedestrian and kid-friendly. I will also be excited to see if there are any major personnel changes at Marvel.
Why are people making a big deal out of everything? Disney is buying Marvel in a business deal. Its not trying to control any creative details. Disney owns everything - it owns ABC, Miramax, Touchstone, etc. Cry me a river, build a bridge, and get over it.
i think it sucks. i don't want to disney channel stars showing up i marvel movies. are we going to see zac efron and breda song in the spider-man? i hope not.
Well, I don't like the idea of Disney buying Marvel, however, there is this new technology out there called 3D! Have you heard of it (minor sarcasm). I would like to see disney take Spider-man (there is already a 3d sensory ride at Universal Studios) and make a 3D Pixar film out of it. If they do that, then I can be happy with the merge. Plus maybe it will help for Captain America to get out faster.
I think nothing will happen. The only thing to come out of this is positive. People forget that Disney owns Miramax too and that includes movies like Kill Bill and Inglorious Basterds. I think hopefully now that Marvel has a parent company they can afford to lower their prices. And they own ABC.
thinking the same thing! that marvel will be the same, it just be out to the public more, like for the little kids! and for the older people thing will stay the same with adult tone!
Lol can't find my old comment but can't wait for that Kingdom Hearts: Mutant X with X-Men teaming up with Sora, Goofy, Donald and Micky to take on The Hulks Darkness. Hey maybe there could really be a Darkside Theme Park with some sick rides like X2 at magic mountain.
If Disney paid 4 billion dollars...they can practically do whatever they want...make the changes they want...market things the way they want. What can fans do about it?
Zero, zilch, nothing, nada...either buy the comics or not buy the comics.
Does Marvel care about the fans? yeah, sure! OMD was a prime example that they decide and the fans just buy. You think that if Marvel cared would they had a big announcement during SDCC? I'm sure fans would have been objective. Did they care?NO
I'm not concerned. Disney has been trying to really break in to comics for a long time, this is their "in". Movies like Iron Man will be fine, they already work for kids. DisneyXD already plays Marvel toons so big deal there. Universal should be concerned with their Islands of adventure, but that depends on what Disney's strategy is.
Guys, more shows on location would be awesome. Pete is already like Mr. Rogers.
disney can't own DC unless they buy Warner Bros which will never happen. Marvel will be left alone and besides, the deal hasnt even been completely settled yet! It's not like its some kind of overnight apocolypse.
It's not a big deal its just a business. Disney will most likely leave it alone because thats for teenage boys and men. So it was of course a smart idea. Disney's been around long enough to know what it's new. It owns Miramax which did Kill Bill. Cartoon Side hopefully they would be as good from mid 80s to 90s Disney run when they were really good. They're a smart company who can go against them now?
this is bad idea much like you dad or grandma skateboarding and entering the x game can they do it yeah is it a good thing that different hey happy wolverine with mickey mouse
Im really not sure..... I am worried if theres going to be "watered down versions" of Marvel comics. I dont really mind if theres cross overs. I mean, Spider Man teamed up with Howard the Duck for crying out loud! I would mind seeing another cross over in general. Also, DC buying out Disney and Marvel..... most likely, kiddie things would be put to rest and there may be some decent DC/Marvel cross overs.... or DC would shut down Marvel comics......
Please! DC Comics already bought you! It was at least a month before you guys would make any comment on the clusterfuck that was the final issue of Final Crisis. Alex did an interview with Didio, in his office at DC comics no less, the week it was released. Coincidence? I think not!
GREAT VIDEO GUYS!! Way to get the discussions rolling in the CBC world we have on youtube. Love how you shot from Midtown. Disney would be stupid to tamper with CONTENT. Let's just hope for better sales and no messing with creative freedom. Alex... do you feel like you can write another comic with Marvel now that this has happened? Meaning.. would they hire you again?
I went to Midtown Comics when I visited NYC earlier this year. My small store on the north side of Chicago only has mainstream titles and maybe an independant title here and there. Walking up the stairs with superhero posters and then seeing huge rack of comics nearly made me faint. Once I get out of College, my friends and I really hope we can all move there....just for the store, of course.
The big issue about Disney respecting fanboys and Marvel editorial is will Disney make more money by remaining true to the way comics are now or will they make more money by directing everything towards a younger audience?
If Disney changed the name to Disney Comics, then there would be legitimate worry about the Punisher protecting the Jonas Brothers from the mob by shooting sleeper darts at the mob.
Luckily, its still Marvel Comics.
As it is, Disney bought a company to add to its conglomerate. Marvel has access to new customers, their comic properties have money-making potential; Disney in turn has money and its own massive fanbase for comics to reach.
Disney will make the money that disney wants from marvel by pushing its product into further parts, disney stores will store marvel comics, as you say, rides, and so on will pop up in disney worlds. Power Pack will get its on cartoon on the disney channel, but thats it, so long as they leave the main marvel movies alone, its okay by me. Oh and didnt warner brothers and disney try a merger not so long ago? WB own DC don't they? The evil plan is coming together mwuahahaha!
I'm more concerned about what it means for comic books in general. The Marvel characters are pretty much guaranteed to live on indefinitely... but between Disney and Warner Bros. it's all too easy to bring the monthly comic book to an end the moment these corporations feel they are either not making money or serving a larger purpose.
My worry is that Disney will see stuff like Power Pack on the Marvel roster and think that maybe the characters shouldn't be having their breasts mutilated by near-naked monosyllabic mentally-retarded mutant women dressed in bandages and be the focus of fun comics enjoyed by all ages and genders instead of a narrow group of misogynistic sexual deviants.
Marvel produced great comics for decades under the draconian CCA: Disney won't neuter them even if they DO interfere with content.
their probably not gonna make Tony Stark juice crazy. look at pirates of the carribean, Jack Sparrow lived on rum on an an island for three days, but I think disney is gonig to put bad comic lines out like the jonas brothers, or hannah montanna
Thanks for addressing this guys, I was worried at first but when you think about it funding from Disney could be helpful in maybe lowering the prices of comics or allowing smaller titles to keep going, however their is still the fear of "Disney-fication". But Marvel's sort of already shooting at a younger audience with its latest round of cartoons, ex: "Marvel's Super Hero Sqaud"
Arrrgh again. Id card and registration, martial law, 50 state federal police initiative, assainations, propaganda and reptilian (skrull) shapeshifters.. Too much for the elitist coalition pushing the PNAC agenda?? I think so, does anyone reaally think Disney would push the bar of political and controversial themes?
Fanboys are overreacting to this. Disney isn't going to be able touch the movie lines for quite awhile: all of the Avengers movies will be distributed by Paramount and Warner Bros. and Fox still own movie rights Spider-Man and X-Men in perpetuity. This is more about Disney reaching out to a male demographic that they've largely abandoned over the past decade. I'm more worried about Disney using their massive marketing machine to marginalize other publishers and distributors even further.
Please.. Its about the comics, the movies are watered down and gay compared to the comics except the one's I found to be decent (Hulk (bana version), Iron Man and the first two spider man movies). Fans were waiting for the movies to push realism further and be even more for a mature audience. Either shit is gonna be saturated to death or just banalized and made rediculous.
The comics already have a loyal built-in fan base that Disney has no reason to alienate. They have enough cash to continue the lines as they are AND reach out to younger readers. And why not? Why shouldn't comics be for kids too? Marvel does a shitty job promoting its own all-ages lines. Does this mean there will be Hannah Montana comics? Probably, but so what? If you don't like it, don't read it. Also, the thought that Dark Reign/Secret Invasion is in any way "controversial" is ridiculous.
I need another comment to underline my despair... Now we are gonna see dark reign going a different direction than what we could have seen, Disney is gonna sencor everything controversial that could critique US politics especially foreign affairs, just like they did anti communist propaganda before. Arrrrrghhhhh...
Marvel had controversial conspiracy themes recently and unbelievably sold out to the NWO owned Disney. I am SO INCREDIBLY DISSAPOINTED. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU?K!!!!!!
Looing outside the huge dollar sign, this impact means the bar will be raised, better Marvel animated series. Web comics will have better presentations. Japanese anime will really be challenged. Let's not forget Disney is known for fluid animation. This is a big move since Disney has Pixar too. Scary Good for the consumers!
I'm just worried about what's gonna happen to Marvel land in Universal studios. I think there's more than one deal going on here though, cause a lota stuffs in a lota places
I think that it's no worries because Disney is just a conglomerate they just want more money. They own many companies. Like Pixar and Pixar still has creative control so I think it's all good. Although I was worried at first.
The thing that has me worried is what if disney decides to put their actors in Marvel's movies. I really don't want to see zack efron playing Spider-man. On the other hand though disney has touchstone and miramax so maybe we could finally see a big budget Daredevil or Punisher movie if disney chooses to just help fund Marvel's movies and let them make the casting decisions.
alex: "they're a smart company because they're a gigantic company."
the opposite tends to be the case. totalitarian multinationals are better able to produce shit products at high prices and squash competitors. Disney also has a record of treating its workers like shit. My bet is that many artists will leave.
This has been flagged as spam show

Disney will mess with the comics too because they cannot show kids the type of stuff that is going on in the X-Force comics these days. For example blood, guts, brain damage, heads being sliced off. This is the worst thing to ever happen to the comic bizz =(

If disney has bought marvel, does that mean that Universal Studios Hollywood or Florida will stop selling Marvel merch?

I think you are correct that the comics are relatively safe, but that the television and film interpretations may come out a bit more pedestrian and kid-friendly. I will also be excited to see if there are any major personnel changes at Marvel.

Why are people making a big deal out of everything? Disney is buying Marvel in a business deal. Its not trying to control any creative details. Disney owns everything - it owns ABC, Miramax, Touchstone, etc. Cry me a river, build a bridge, and get over it.

Plus maybe it will help for Captain America to get out faster.
mcalliber 2 years ago
I think nothing will happen. The only thing to come out of this is positive. People forget that Disney owns Miramax too and that includes movies like Kill Bill and Inglorious Basterds. I think hopefully now that Marvel has a parent company they can afford to lower their prices. And they own ABC.
lugo012685 2 years ago
thinking the same thing! that marvel will be the same, it just be out to the public more, like for the little kids! and for the older people thing will stay the same with adult tone!

Rogers.
JMan1380 2 years ago
disney can't own DC unless they buy Warner Bros which will never happen. Marvel will be left alone and besides, the deal hasnt even been completely settled yet! It's not like its some kind of overnight apocolypse.
WebHeadCollector 2 years ago 2
It's not a big deal its just a business. Disney will most likely leave it alone because thats for teenage boys and men. So it was of course a smart idea. Disney's been around long enough to know what it's new. It owns Miramax which did Kill Bill. Cartoon Side hopefully they would be as good from mid 80s to 90s Disney run when they were really good. They're a smart company who can go against them now?

Im really not sure..... I am worried if theres going to be "watered down versions" of Marvel comics. I dont really mind if theres cross overs. I mean, Spider Man teamed up with Howard the Duck for crying out loud! I would mind seeing another cross over in general. Also, DC buying out Disney and Marvel..... most likely, kiddie things would be put to rest and there may be some decent DC/Marvel cross overs.... or DC would shut down Marvel comics......

The big issue about Disney respecting fanboys and Marvel editorial is will Disney make more money by remaining true to the way comics are now or will they make more money by directing everything towards a younger audience?
smallmaniac 2 years ago
If Disney changed the name to Disney Comics, then there would be legitimate worry about the Punisher protecting the Jonas Brothers from the mob by shooting sleeper darts at the mob.
Luckily, its still Marvel Comics.
As it is, Disney bought a company to add to its conglomerate. Marvel has access to new customers, their comic properties have money-making potential; Disney in turn has money and its own massive fanbase for comics to reach.
TheRevanchist 2 years ago 2
Disney will make the money that disney wants from marvel by pushing its product into further parts, disney stores will store marvel comics, as you say, rides, and so on will pop up in disney worlds. Power Pack will get its on cartoon on the disney channel, but thats it, so long as they leave the main marvel movies alone, its okay by me. Oh and didnt warner brothers and disney try a merger not so long ago? WB own DC don't they? The evil plan is coming together mwuahahaha!
loverman13 2 years ago
I'm more concerned about what it means for comic books in general. The Marvel characters are pretty much guaranteed to live on indefinitely... but between Disney and Warner Bros. it's all too easy to bring the monthly comic book to an end the moment these corporations feel they are either not making money or serving a larger purpose.
usedbymyusername 2 years ago
My worry is that Disney will see stuff like Power Pack on the Marvel roster and think that maybe the characters shouldn't be having their breasts mutilated by near-naked monosyllabic mentally-retarded mutant women dressed in bandages and be the focus of fun comics enjoyed by all ages and genders instead of a narrow group of misogynistic sexual deviants.
Marvel produced great comics for decades under the draconian CCA: Disney won't neuter them even if they DO interfere with content.
grumpybags 2 years ago
their probably not gonna make Tony Stark juice crazy. look at pirates of the carribean, Jack Sparrow lived on rum on an an island for three days, but I think disney is gonig to put bad comic lines out like the jonas brothers, or hannah montanna

thelivingbrain123 2 years ago

OMG I HATE THIS!
arise2 2 years ago
Fanboys are overreacting to this. Disney isn't going to be able touch the movie lines for quite awhile: all of the Avengers movies will be distributed by Paramount and Warner Bros. and Fox still own movie rights Spider-Man and X-Men in perpetuity. This is more about Disney reaching out to a male demographic that they've largely abandoned over the past decade. I'm more worried about Disney using their massive marketing machine to marginalize other publishers and distributors even further.
apprimo 2 years ago
Please.. Its about the comics, the movies are watered down and gay compared to the comics except the one's I found to be decent (Hulk (bana version), Iron Man and the first two spider man movies). Fans were waiting for the movies to push realism further and be even more for a mature audience. Either shit is gonna be saturated to death or just banalized and made rediculous.
arise2 2 years ago
The comics already have a loyal built-in fan base that Disney has no reason to alienate. They have enough cash to continue the lines as they are AND reach out to younger readers. And why not? Why shouldn't comics be for kids too? Marvel does a shitty job promoting its own all-ages lines. Does this mean there will be Hannah Montana comics? Probably, but so what? If you don't like it, don't read it. Also, the thought that Dark Reign/Secret Invasion is in any way "controversial" is ridiculous.
apprimo 2 years ago
Controversial to the right people, not the general public.
arise2 2 years ago
I need another comment to underline my despair... Now we are gonna see dark reign going a different direction than what we could have seen, Disney is gonna sencor everything controversial that could critique US politics especially foreign affairs, just like they did anti communist propaganda before. Arrrrrghhhhh...
