@javieralzahome Pretty much what meshpet said, except he was in a Portal comic done by Valve to bridge the gap between Portal and Portal 2, and it was revealed that he had pretty severe Schizophrenia and that he's the reason Chell was even used in testing. He's also the reason why she's the only person in the cryo-sleep area you start the second game in that's still alive. Basically, he's an incredibly important character that exists solely in the background.
