  • Fucking aye NZ Music is the shit well it was it's all crap rap nowadays.

  • Another great song from DD. Had he been English or American, DD would be have been a huge star. A NZ treasure.

  • Thanks Knees Tease for all the great old kiwi songs/bands that you've uploaded.

I love them all but you can't beat th' dudes Be mine tonight. I played it until my pc blew up. How good are Split enz as well. ooohhh Sharon o'neill do i need to say anything. Love being reminded of all these great songs/bands.

  • Dave Dobbyn & DD Smash @ the Lady H nightclub, Hamilton when first starting out

  • I often used to argue whether Dave Dobbyn was NZ's Bruce Springsteen or not. Hearing this song I realise he's NZ's Elvis Costello.

Great Song.... Heard he's a dick

  • The only great song by Dave Dobbyn...much of the rest is cring-inducing kiwiana schmaltz - but he;s great here....

  • kive this one....

  • fuck'n Chur!

  • drummer was always way to much in love with its self unfortunately...jerk. for the rest ok not bad definately better kiwi music around at time

  • man that drummer was allways such a "POSER" jerk

  • My parents were never fond of "modern music" but this one always made the playlist with no arguements

  • dave dobbyn is the man... NZs best singer ever.. :)

  • AWESOME!!chur!

  • NZ + 80's FTW lol.

  • Is it Peter Warren the drummer? Damn, he might as well just sit there tackle out ha ha. Great song.

  • Kickass kiwi tune...the 80z in NZ...nothing compares.

  • @lePillierDroit

The best time and place to be a kid. I am so grateful I had that experience. Remember when people DIDN'T work on weekends?

  • @Rainb0wSeven yeah hardout..and ciggies were $2 a pack, I used to buy mum and dads when I was 5.lol.

  • @lePillierDroit

Lol, and get a can of Leed and a lemonade Popsicle while you were there. Good times, good times.

  • lol great memories!!! love this song.

  • that there is the shit

  • yep kiwis

  • I bet I'm one of very few Yanks who loves this song. Was on a vinyl compilation I had, Maiden Australia, rescued by me from the 25-cent bin at the record store - what a find! - but wait - they're kiwis, ain't they?

  • yeah they are a? funny how the rest of the world gets mixed up with Australia and New Zealand..its like getting Canada and America mixed or Germany and Austria...

  • God defend Dave Dobbyn!

  • Brilliant, brilliant song

  • It took me almost 30 years to find it on video!!! go utube....thats Maori for Youtube heheh

  • I absolutely ADORE this song, and when I flew to New Zealand they played it through the entire flight and it played in my mind for the entire TEN YEARS it took me to track it down in the States. I didn't know who the band/singer was until THIS year, and was FINALLY able to get it on a Dobbyn ultimate collection. WONDERFUL song!

  • Im checking my ipod to see if i have this. i need to listen to it on the way to work ha!

  • The gun angle looks like a mash up with "I don't like Mondays". Thursday might be any weather, probably sunshine but it will still be raining on him.

  • Today was fine, tears at time

Otherwise fine, otherwise standing, otherwise over the top

you got dirty rotten weather its a heart.

Promise you you the bluest summer sky.

The outlook and weather is a reflection of the problems in his life and its not whether its actually sunny day or not.

  • Otherwise fine Otherwise just dandy! Otherwise fine Otherwise just over the top! You got really rotten weather, it's so hard, I know that that's so Tell me where a weatherman should start, when he's miles from his sunshine... Promise you the warmest winter fire, When outside its freezing cold Promise you the bluest summer sky, It'll shine just for you...
  • invercargills weather, right

  • Thanks for the Queen Street riot dave, what a magical afternoon that was.

  • "magical"? What did it achieve? Broken windows and bruises...

  • I guess you don't understand irony

  • roger that bro,nz is known 4 making a stand,

where it counts(proud to be maori)

  • But he did say sorry ......

  • classis

  • Just love this song...thanks for posting it Knees Tease.

  • Confession time; for years I failed to understand that Dobbyn had been 'shot' at the beginning of the video and interpreted his video character's subsequent staggering around as intended to simulate being really out-of-it or something. Not a bad pop song, but the video loses points for Peter 'Rooda' Warren's blatant 'dog on it's back' crotch display.

  • oh shut up you twat

  • Come top of your class in English, eh?

  • dave is a n.z legend dd smash fuck yea!!

  • I live in australia now and heard this song on the radio the other day..been years since I heard it! so he musta been known well over here :)

  • I've always wondered how much money Dave made from his music career (considering that he has only had hit records in NZ). Anybody know? No "guesses" please.

  • $389,867.72 if don't count the 3 chickens he got paid when he did a gig up north and the money he lost in the taxi he caught after a Ponsonby Gig. YOU MORON what the hell kinda question is that...IDIOT

  • I said no guesses, jackoff.

  • Well not very much from his time in Th'Dudes in the late 1970s - Stebbings Studios kept all their masters and the royalties go to them, not the band...

  • Really? Major bummer!

  • A classic Kiwi song of the eighties, where raw talent as musicians was substituted for fancy special effects videos...great tune!

  • Hey at 1:31 it looks like dave is at Omana Regional Park between Beachlands and Maraetai.

but if hes were I think he is the trees have growin' so the view isint the same.

  • kiwi's rock!

  • this is an alsome kiwi song

  • i remember 1983 i was 14yrs old i was a street kid in new plymouth this was two of my best friends and my favourite songs sadly lost those friends same year car accident good to hear this song and remember the bros rip shane+graeme

  • 1983.

    Awatapu College, P. Nth.

  • I always recall this song being played over the top of footage of the December 1984 Queen Street riot...

  • undies, undies......togs.

    classic stuff.

  • show

  • poooooooooooooossss

  • Takes me back to when i was a kid...not a worry in the world :)

  • I'm stuck with it...even after all these years, as I lie on sofa on a Monday or Tuesday watching the TV and the weather report comes on - as soon as the reporter says '...and now, the outlook for Thursday...' it comes into my head 'YOUR GUESS AS GOOD AS MINE!!' I've yet to hear a weatherman say 'a weak ridge of pressure from the hinter to the heartland' but I live in hope. Awesome song Dave.

  • Saw him as "A DUDE" at a pub in Upper Hutt...those days yeah

  • my day is good dave.. know what i mean

  • yay dave

  • grat song ?

  • Oh...and the stirruped Adidas pants...were ALL the rage when I was about 8. I only got the fake ones with 5 stripes..the real ones were too pricey : ( haha

  • One of my all time Kiwi faves...this brings back memories and gave me patriotic feelings as a child. I am horrified to see that guy in his dick togs just sitting in the deck-chair! I remember when that was considered quite normal! Jesus!!

  • I love this song! It is and will always be timeless!!!! I bet you guys never thought that the younger New Zealand generation would be crazy about this song. I love to hear more and I am not alone.
