  • he is slovak

  • Music - "Danse Macabre" by Saint Saens

  • Sehr gut gemacht. They deserved the Oscar for this film.

  • The Herzog character was more opportunist than Nazi. He would have been anything that ensured his survival and, hopefully, prosperity as well.

  • @SteveKaczynski:

In a way, you've swallowed Herzog's own articulated argument. Certainly he was not an honorable military man. The historical record shows little contradiction between Nazism and naked opportunism. The opportunist / traitor Herzog was a common sort of character, with a high view of himself. Hitler himself murdered a good number of early "believers" in the Night of Long Knives. After that it was "strivers" (Herzog), virgins, goons and bullies, who took up the ill-fated cause.

  • What's the name of the classical piece that plays in the beginning? Can't remember ..

amazing movie .. my only concern was that they humanized the principal Nazi Bernhard "Herzog" a bit too much .. I suppose that was meant to show the irony of his cruelty .. but still ..
