I'm confused. I've watched a thousand videos on biochar; they all talk about absence of oxygen, but all the prototypes of gasifiers I've seen are full of vents and air flow everywhere...? What am I missing? Thanks.
@turuanu Hi - Better to contact Art, but to take a stab at it myself - pyrolysis is a process that begins with heating and , burning of volatiles. Charcoal is intermediate. With enough air or time combustion will be complete. Even a 'Brazil type kiln' I visited in Sao Paulo might smolder for many days beyond completion if the fire was not smothered and allowed to cool. same happens here and my home heating stove.
