Who initiates a case is of no significance when determining whether the case itself is a show-trial. Certainly since the Marxist New Labour regime was elected in 1997, show trials have been no stranger to the English courtroom.

It's called research, mate. To determine who is credible and who is not, you have to read material from both sides of the argument. I made up my mind about Irving as a result of studying his books, not before I picked them up. You've obviously never formally studied history, or even know what is involved, so I forgive you for that ill-considered and naïve remark.

Irving's works are full of blatant and direct doctoring of source materials. If the sources don't fit his preconceived ideas, he simply ignores them. If he can't ignore them, he argues them out of existence.
Professional historians take the whole of the sources in question, check them against other relevant sources to reach a reasoned conclusion that will withstand critical scrutiny by other historians who look at the same material.
No professional historian takes Irving seriously.

Even the court ruling for the right to label him "H denier" stated on the same day that his works were solid and serious as an historian.

Professional historian know the value of his work but have a double position as 'pedagogism landflords' which forces them to throw mud at him. This not the same.
