2. Even with guns, you are still risking because you might not stop the target. Let alone a non-lethal one.

3. Non-lethal? If you don't want to kill the person, then I assume nobody is at risk...

Get a gun. Aim at the chest. Pull the trigger until the target stops or you run out of ammo. You'll be in panic, you want to incapacitate the target as soon as possible.

So, you're trying to tell me that if someone breaks into my house I have to check if he has a gun or not? No. He broke into my house, I have to assume he's there to cause harm. I won't risk my family's life by checking for a gun, I just shoot.

@321SpikE My safe has a combination, but laws don't require me to keep the guns stored there. At night I keep it in a drawer, unloaded, separate from a loaded magazine.

My house isn't very big, so I can get to everywhere in a couple of seconds, and I'll have to get out of my bedroom to protect other people.

Of course, this will eventually lead to me facing intruders. That's why I don't want to have my house broken into. But if I do, I have the option between a handgun and a shotgun.
