Thats a big fire Station. A mean normally are the fire stations not so big in the USA? In Germany big Firestations have between 25 and 40 Firetrucks. In Usa they are normally smaller like this station?
i remember that day i was out there visting a friend i havent seen since 2009 we was in her car when E-10 and L-10 came by us then not 10 minutes later we was in a accident we was all ok no 1 was hurt but damn that day was like some thing i never seen be4
I know what you mean with the German, Dirk. Since you probably aren't from America, and you probably learned English on your travels, the only way you can communicate with people back in Germany is through German (Deutsch). I especially love that Pierce tiller Seattle Ladder 1 runs.
I know what you mean mlps93. If it's icy with snow on the roads, the snow could be covering some black ice. Do you by any chance know what black ice is? If not, black ice forms on the road, and especially on bridges, as bridges usually ice over first. If you're not careful during the winter on possibly icy roads, you could end up slipping on those slippery roads. I'm lucky that my dad's car has traction control, which comes in handy in slippery spots, wherever they are!
Love that Pierce tiller, and by the way, because my ancestors were pure German, I know some German, and the German in your description for this video is a translation for those who live in Germany to read for the video. Keep up the good videos, Dirk!
A tandem axle tractor on a tillered aerial helps distribute the weight on the truck evenly between tractor and trailer, and I never knew Seattle would have one!
@SinthiGree there are much shorter trucks with the same length/longer ladder but the tiller is much more maneuverable for narrow streets. also gotta remember we carry more tools on our ladder trucks than you guys, its not uncommon for a truck like that to have a dual purpose as a rescue as well.
@johnsmithy667 true, there aren't many tools on our Aerial Ladders: we have our pumps, water tanks, tools and ground ladders on the Engines. Since we often respond in convoys of 2 Engines and 1 Aerial (and some more vehicles) the ladder doesn't have to carry that much. Our 'empty' room under the ladder is used to extend the ladder also to a level below the truck (e.g. in harbors, ditches etc.)
I'm continually amazed at the lack of winter weather preparations in so many cities here in the US, especially in the southern states where I'm located. Winter weather is guaranteed to wreak havoc even here at least 2-3 weeks every winter and yet the cities and counties do nothing to prepare. It's a shame that so many lives and properties are lost because these local governments won't spend the money for plows, gravel spreaders, etc.
