  • Thanks for the info MrSaxman77. I didn't know about the dawn/gel thing. Very interesting.

  • My family always had nopales in their homes and would harvest them. The prickly pears are great for jelly and the pads make an excellent cactus salad. As a tip, my grandmother always said the best time to harvest the cactus was just before dawn . It eliminates too much gel in your cuttings which can be upsetting to your stomach. Once the sun is up the chloryphyll runs thru the pads and is not very tasty.
