  • You probably never played Magician on NES. That's the most difficultest game what I ever seen.

  • I love this game so much. Best 8-bit boss music ever.

I was sadly never able to find a copy to buy back in the day, I only got to rent it a few times. Now I've never considered my gaming skills to be anything to really brag about, but I was quite surprised to read so many comments about how brutal this game's difficulty is. I could crush this game as a kid, I never really found the difficulty all that bad.

  • BEST GAME EVER..next to power blade 2,and bionic commando

  • Damn! I almost forgot about this game, and I thought Super Meatboy was hard. This is definitely a classic title, makes me wanna dig through the crates, dust off and break out my NES again. Awesome video. :)

  • was there a famicom version of this game?

  • @menace391 are you serious?

  • I am surprised You don't know this game, Luke. I am a Video Game collector myself, and this game was one of the first game I played on NES way back. The first one I was playing was actually a Japanese version titled "[raf]" (which i thought it was IRAFI at the time)

  • I need to get this. I've seen 2 reviews on it and both have been glowing.

I'll need to give it a run.

  • never played it, but it looks like a heart pounder. one of my favs for NES is bayou billy

  • Dam this does look pretty intense.

  • The HVGN did this game for like his second ever review and he loved the game. He didn't seem to care a lot about the story, but it looks great. I might have to play this somehow in the near future

  • Journey to (Ste)lius, looks pretty good, reminds me a little of MEGA MAN.

  • Sunsoft games has always had great music. Batman, Gremlins 2, Blaster Master, Fester Quest etc... Notice how many of sunsoft classics have that familiar music tone in them. =]

  • Great vid.

  • Wow, awesome game. I've never seen it, but looks cool. I'm gonna try to get a copy for my NES.

  • Sounds like Contra

  • It was supposed to be a Terminator game, but for some reason, the licence was given to LJN instead. Not kidding, fucking LJN got the rights over Sunsoft.

  • The Famicom version is known as Raf World. I much prefer that version.

  • one of the best NES/FC games you could play on the original console!

  • Anyone know where I might be able to find the RetroRemix of JTS that was on screwattack cerca 2007? That was just pure awesome.

  • am i the only one who though the second boss looks kinda like a dog?

it's just what i did when i was a kid

  • pop that in play some of that, classic lukemorse line :))

  • gotta love it, like how he always says alright, back again

  • I hear some Blaster Master sounds!! Great Video Luke!!!

  • I notice that also....hehehe I love it!

  • great video for a great game i remember playing game when it came it made me so made i broke my controller i went through allot of them had very little patients for game that i would die in for some stupid reason and nes game were famous that it would be some years late in life that i would beat but man let me tell that was a great feeling lol and the soundtrack was very well done i heard some remixes of that rock, another A1 video luke 5 big stars for you buddy later !!!!!

  • This game reminds me of the Mega Man games.

  • Sunsoft games usually had pretty good music. Their composer was a legend. Surprising this was an Asian made game, it feels very Western. As it goes I seem to remember they had the licence for The Terminator but then Hemdale went with another company so they changed a few things and released it anyway. Will have to check my facts on that one. I'll have to check this out anyway, looks cool.

  • Wow this game looks really cool. Ill have to check it out! :)

  • Yeah this game rox! My neighbor back in the day had this and he brought it over one day. We hooked my NES up to my dads stereo and we rocked this shit loud! Music was just awesome on the NES but yeah it was hard! It was a rare game I mean most people never heard of it back then.

  • Aww dude this game looks sick. I'mma have to play this sometime. Great video!

  • looks kinda like contra

  • happy 1 year on the tube

  • DO THE FUCKING SKIT!

  • nooooo loke here??? What?? Luke you forgot to say luke here when you started the video...anyways nice review

  • Y is it with old games if they look good they are viciously hard????

  • That's how old games were, new games are too easy, in the old school days, game designers weren't afraid to give gamers a challenge.

  • damn strait man we need a challenge to keep us playing last challenge we got was though the fire and the flames on guitar hero 3

  • Lol, yeah. That was only hard because of the beginning.

  • Exactly! Why can't they do that nowadays?

  • They don't want to hurt the kid's self esteem, to put it frankly. They're babying the gaming community. A younger gamer from this day and age could beat Halo 3 on Legendary, and then play Contra for the first time, and break something in frustration and give up. Games nowadays are crap.

  • I agree. The truth is that I do like the old 2D games a lot more, but I am terrible at them and I don't have very much self esteem.

  • That's why you go hardcore on it; when you die in a game, shake it off and remember why you died. In side scrolling shooters, the only REAL way to win is to memorize every level front and back and know in advance EXACTLY what's going to happen. Like in Contra 3, I could tell you the extent of every level, when enemies are going to come, what kind of enemy they are going to be, what side of the screen they're going to appear on, and what you should do about it, on Normal, anyway.

  • I try to be but I'm still not very good. I have one Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game on the Game Boy. I had the game for years. I could get all of the way to Act 5, but I could never beat the Final stage.

  • Same here. I am terrible when it comes to the old school games, but I do like them.

  • i own the japanese version which name is "RAF" world. The alternate version has some little variation in which the main character wears a cyber-suit. Other than that the game is pretty much identical to the one shown in this video.

  • seemed a awesome game to play i should try it sometime.

  • looks kinda like of those megaman games on the old NES

  • This game kicks so much ass.

  • This game would seriously kick my ass. Never tried it but I doubt I'd see much of it anyway lol.

  • Interesting looking game there Luke. I like that you have gone back to your old style reviews mate, very cool...

I like the way the enemys in this game are all in black and white... strange ;o)

  • I always thought the music and graphics were quite good in this game.

  • Thanx for the video Luke, I've never heard of this game before. Great game music!

  • That's some pretty good graphics for an NES game.

  • Journey to Silius is by far one of THE most unforgiving games on the NES. You ain't kidding about the difficulty level. I can honestly say I never finished that game without the almighty game genie.

  • this looks like a pretty sweet game. I think IGN had it on their list of the top 100 nes games of all time.

I wonder how it would have turned out if it actually became a Terminator game, like they originally planned.

  • cool vid...can't believe I missed this one back in the day...pretty great for NES

  • yep i love this game, the music is epic

  • BEST BOSS MUSIC EVER!! I had this when I was younger, and it's one of my favorite NES games! Great video!

  • Man, this game is so hard I don't think I ever got past the 2nd stage. lol

  • Nice work on the boss fight!

  • Keep meaning to pick this up.....but never think about it while out and about.

  • Sunsoft always did a good job on their games, I thought. Cool box art, too...

  • cool game!

  • another thing that makes this game awesome,

is that it was suppose to be terminator until

    the license got dropped...=/

  • Heh, those enemys at the beginning look like Mousers from TMNT.

  • This game always looked amazing to me. I still need to grab it.

  • Yay, finally some love for journey to silius. The music is awesome!

  • i got this game for xmas back in 199x and i have had the music from the first stage and first boss fight (the helicopter with the jumping things) in my head for almost 20 years to the point where i forgot where the music game from untill i played the game on my emulator the other day and i was like "this is where that music is from!!!" i totaly forgot lol. great game

  • love this game.

  • LOVE the level 2 music!

  • No one thinks this looks like Contra? :P

  • Well maybe the way he shoots.

  • Actually i don't see any similarities to Mega man.

  • the first stage music sounds like it would be in megaman.

  • Exactly what I was thinking.

  • kinda reminds me of megaman

  • According to Happy Video Game Nerd, this game was actually originally going to be the first Terminator game.

  • Sunsoft games did tend to have awesome music along with konami and capcom games

  • Exactly, and that's why the Japanese are better game developers than Non-Asian game developers.

  • Bleeding hell this game looks fantastic! And I dig the fact that from what I can see, the challenge looks difficult but at least it isn't rage inducing compared to games such as The Silver Surfer. I only saw it but never played, but it looked pretty bad! Damnit, now I gotta put this game on my list of NES games to get when I acquire one.

Good shit man. Keep it up and stay cool.

  • i used to have that game...I agree pain in the ass

  • This game is one of my all-time favs on the NES , together with 'Power Blade' and 'ShatterHand' :)

  • This game is very reminescent of megaman. And has some of the best music on the nes. Its very underrated and i highly recommmend it.

  • mega man rip-off

  • not relly considering the limitations of the NES. an action sidescroller was the fps of the time so that makes it more of a competiter rather than a rip-off

  • sunsoft one of the greats in the early days

  • great video mate, glad to see you back on top form :-)

  • Good game, funny to hear you happy again, keep it up ;)

  • its great to see a review from you again!!! thanks man!

  • sweet lookin game,,,might have to pick this one up

  • This one of those game where I can find myself out on town humming the songs while browsing shops. The music is SO deliscious :D

Another thing I love, and get annoyed over at the same time, is the physics in this game. You dont drop of a ledge straight down like in mega man, you fall forward thanks to your momentum. Its a really nice touch, but it can really screw you up in some areas!

  • One of Sunsoft's greatest games. Next in line would be Fester's Quest.

  • I've heard a lot about this game

    Looks very exciting!

  • This was supposed to be The Terminator, but there was issues with licensing another company got the license, and so sunsoft changed the story part a bit, tweaked graphics, and came up with a unique name.

  • Let me guess.. an AMERICAN game company got the license first before Sunsoft got it?

  • This game looks like a Megaman clone.

  • cool looking sci-fi game :)

  • Looks like Contra: the adventure XD

im gonna try it sometime, i always dint expect much of this due the magazine adds...

  • yaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Thanx luke!

  • this game looks dope, I gotta try it out.

  • megaman + contra

  • really awesome chip music

  • this game is based on terminator 1 movie. awesome review, Luke =)

  • Its no Metal Gear Solid 4.

  • ditto on the music

  • Better yet. This game helped give birth to the Happy Video Game Nerd.

  • Pop that in, play summa that!

    Catchphrase heaven. :p
