  • Someone else on here said JT is never too show off-y about his playing and i totally agree! He plays his songs like a lover with incredible detail and attention and passion--this is my favorite sad song:)

  • 112 dislikes? Why?

  • Just bought 4 tickets for the Verizon center in Manchester NH. Allways wanted to see him live.

  • JT is a tower of inspiration and listening pleasure. I've enjoyed his songs since I was 12, when I first heard him. Taught myself how to play them on the guitar. His compositions are unique and he never shows off. He is awesome on stage and in the studio. JT is one of the few pop/rock/country composer/artists who has survived personal hell and stood the test of time since the late 1960s, and he only gets better.

  • My sis-in-law played this song, among others, in a video at her R.N. graduation. Not a dry eye in the place! All of that hard work pays off ten fold.

  • They played this song on the radio today in State College and dedicated it to Joe Paterno. This song really fit him.

  • un grand compositeur de talent!! what a beautiful humble voice

  • For Alex

  • OH SHIT BIG ESSAY TO WRITE AND HAD THE IDEA TO LISTEN TO JAMES TAYLOR... ANY CHANCE OF THE ESSAY GETTING DONE?? I THINK NOT!

  • Holy CRAP his voice is perfect. It's live, and it's perfect. Gloriously rare.

  • this is definately the most difficult to play guitar song on the planet. he makes it look so easy! well done!

  • James Taylor has always been one of my greatest inspirations. It was him and Mark Knopfler who made me record my on records. If you like, check them out by clicking my name.

  • Wow, this song never fails to make me stop... and just listen.

He really nailed a sentiment with this one, even some of the nonsense lyrics just feel right.

  • He is just so good...what a soothing voice

  • "I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend. But I always thought that I'd see you again"

  • One of the Google ads is causing trouble to listen to your video. There is an irritating noise sound while little angel cartoon blink his eyes (My Fun Cards). YouTube is getting worse with all these money grabbing things.

  • Pure genius.

  • 111 assholes have watched this video.

  • Do you think it's been a quick 40 years Mr Taylor?.....I certainly do.

  • lol i don't get why people would search james taylor, find this amazing performance then chose to dislike it

  • "Won't you look down on me, Jesus

You've got to help me make a stand

You've just got to see me through another day

My body's aching and my time is at hand

And I won't make it any other way"

Needed to hear that. I've been feelin' that everyday for the past 6 years.

  • @brennan2185 James Taylor got through it. You can to if you want too. Good luck to you.

  • I find this live-perfomance better than the album version to be honest. Really touching.

  • Is his voice gold or is his voice gold?

  • Attitude Reflects Leadership... Captain.....

  • What an artist !

  • I'm so glad I watched this. This is gorgeous. So simple and so beautful...

  • james ...where has all the time gone ?

  • my 4th cousin:)

  • 109 people wouldn't know a good song if it hit them in the face.

  • I've seen fire and I've seen rain I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend But I always thought that I'd see you again..

  • 1:24 INTENSE

  • @elars213 How is this intense?

  • @HiCapacity 1:24 look at his face.

  • @elars213 I don't get it. This isn't my type of music, I'm sure I don't have the mental capacity to understand it. I just came here to see the guy from two lane blacktop.

  • Production managers are killing music. This song DOES NOT NEED A FUCKING CELLO JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A BUDGET.

  • @uberscheisse i love you.

  • @TheOldSpirit of course!

  • @uberscheisse I thought the cello was actually adding something beautiful to the song, but hey. Opinions differ I guess.

  • When did he preform this?

  • Beautiful stuff, I posted a song here as a video response as JT is a hero of mine & in my softer songs I would be delighted to collaborate with some JT soundalikes on my softer songs like "Leaf Fall", "Bluebell", "Angel Feather" & many more there on the channel & coming in the future ;-)

James Taylor you are a Great Legend!!

    Best Wishes Pete

  • dislikes.......really?

  • I normally listed to rap and things like that but I do like this song a lot. I listen to a lot of songs like these, they are great.

  • timeless priceless

  • timeless priceless

  • damn this is hard.

  • This is so much better than the studio recording

  • watch?v=zBy9t171DEM

(James Taylor would love this woman's sweet vocal)

  • 108 people do not understand real music

  • james taylor is the best when it comes to guitar. :)

  • this is also not him, this is his "spitting image" puppet.

  • this is a typo. It was at the bacon theatre, and he got kicked out for a lack of pork themed songs.

  • Does anybody know where I can get this version of this song on cd?

  • @ robl1970 ... Lol mate. Well said. Don't let me hear you twats soil my namesake again. In Scotland we do as the Aussies do. With relish ! :-) Yours sincerely ... James Taylor.

  • Still one of the best songs ever, thanks James.

  • had to listen to this song for a class and i kinda dig it and im not even into this kinda music!

  • Nice !!!! Denise i miss you.

  • His voice is magical.

  • Is very cool

  • Amazing. Not even a James Taylor fan and just now realized I don't know why I haven't been.

  • @nannini1 This is the first thing I've ever listened to by him, and I really wish I started listening to him earlier. Haha.. It's really good.

  • presente de Deus essa voz..

  • try as we may, no one can really sum James Taylors music up with their comments. Music is there for what words cannot describe, and James Taylor is the epitome of that!

  • Truly magnificent. Beautiful song, superb voice, gorgeous man.

  • yeah, i don't like religion, i don't like the reference to jesus. but when someone truly transmits emotion as honestly as this, religion doesn't even matter anymore. it's this kind of music that really moves people and can move them to do great things.

    i get goosebumps every time.

    thank you, mr. taylor.

  • @noahkrawitz21

Sorry that you are without faith... Glad that James is not - what a truly wonderful gift he has been given.

  • @CanAm85 there's a difference between faith and inspiration. he has both, one of which is a good thing.

  • Hands down the most beautiful version of this song I've ever heard!

  • @seanmccormick37 Well, it is the original :)

  • @jswlee well what I meant was I love this version with the cello - makes it that much more beautiful, and JT sings it with such feeling. This version would bring a tear to a glass eye! LOL

  • remember,l.m.d. 1972/

  • 104 people have not seen fire nor rain..

  • !!!Magnifico!!! , en julio en Madrid.

  • How liberating to finally understand fully what this song is about - so many levels.....

  • I'm tired of all the hate in this world, that's all.

  • @ckramer400

    i hear ya

  • James Taylor sang this about his partner who was killed in an aircrash. It's heart-wrenching.

  • @Trudy591 You sure it wasn't suicide? thought Suzanne killed herself when he went to the UK, but his friends didn't immediately tell him as his carreer was just taking off.

then one summer he asked to speak with her.

    it was bad....

  • @Bolwerk314 Thanks and yes a muzo friend of mine has also pointed this out to me. I was told the aircrash story by a late friend and simply assumed it was correct. The lyrics remain powerful for me nevertheless.

  • such a great tune. his voice has lost nothing with the passing of time

  • @12inchvertical

    I KnoW that's write...

  • people that blah on about listening to 'real music' - i love james taylor and i also love chris brown etc, i don't think that listening to one genre of music is good for anyone. if it makes you feel good, listen to it. amazing song james taylor.

  • @Lyndsaycook

yeah except if you don't listen to Chris Brown's music he might beat you. My friend's little daughter painted a picture of her family and a house and I told her it was beautiful, but that doesn't mean I would put it in the Smithsonian next to a Picasso. Chris Brown doesn't write his own music, if listening to it makes you happy then go for it, but people should be made aware of the difference between an artist and a puppet for the record company.

  • one of the best songs ever

  • This is shit.

  • @00woolley as are you

  • The doctor was playing this in the delivery room when my son was born. I never forgot it. Happy Birthday Boy!

  • Sublime.

  • sweeet salve for when the cold winds blow harshly thru the soul... love you, James.

  • I love this song but I just hate how the audience always has to clap through the first lines! Ugh so annoying

  • I love all types of music but there are times when only James will do! His music has helped me through some scary moments in my life. His voice reaches the soul . His voice is a meditative, medicative , musical massage <3

  • The man can't speak in public, he speaks through his music. I would imagine he's had a tormented life at times. I hope you are content now James.

  • This is just beautiful. Simply beautiful.

  • Sometimes you just need a good cry to clear your head. This song usually works in a pinch.

  • @ItachiZaku very true. even if you don't get that tear. still helps. funny how amazing music is.

  • Love this man....hope he comes to MTL soon....

  • tell me you have never sung along with this and wept.....

  • lucky enough to have see him perform live and he is fantastic - gives 110% talks to the audience too which is nice

  • One of the all time greatest!!

  • Wow, I posted my video to be promoted, and Just clicked on Karla Davis's video response, and it's beautiful, if you get time listen to my rubbish video lol

  • I love James Taylor's music. Fire and Rain is my favourite. I remember learning it in the 80's, I always think its a sad song.

  • great song, great man !

  • Beautiful song and superbly done!!!I can't believe 102 people out there could dislike a song like this...that is just plain pityful :-(Who needsum anyway!!!!!!I have always loved his way of putting life's experiences into lyrics and making you sit back and think,"I've experienced that"!!!He is an awesome performer and a 1st class musician in MY book :-)Screw the 102 dislikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Certainly a favorite of all time; incredible musicianship and interplay between James and the cellist! Anyone know who the cello player is?

  • I am an extreme metalhead that likes metal blacker then the blackest black times infinity to the power of infinity... That actually happens to love James Taylor.

  • One of the best songs of all time

  • amazing song

  • I like Steve katz in the video responses. Listen to what he has to offer. Ireally recommend!

  • He has the best singing voice, he makes it look so easy! lol :)

  • Thanks JT!

  • It's strangely comforting how he can be smiling throughout this whole performance.

  • Thanks James!

  • @MrLeBAMF He's a rapist

  • @MrRohanB10

Because he lives in a garbage CAN?

Maybe YOU'RE the racist...? Douchebag pussy cuntsspitters and bullies of My Family of Phags.

Go fuck yourself. Now. In fact, just kill yourself. There's no excuse for what homophobes and haters of any kind to even be on MY Family's Land. Rage Against the Machine: People of the Sun. Better recognize, asshole. Why don't you just go get wasted and drive around in a corn field and we can compare artwork.

Bitch. WHAT? WHAT? I fucking dare you to v. ORnG

  • @cborgstadt81 dudes. Whats all this about? this is just a clip of a legendary artist...Dont soil such a wonderful gift with poison remarks to each other. In Australia...we meet in private and knuckle on! Stand face to face, and spare us this. Cheers.

  • @cborgstadt81 Kk cool story bro

  • @MrLeBAMF Why 'strangely 'comforting...i really understand that everyone has a different take./outlook on things, but his is James Taylor...he's got a lot of reasons to be happy...his talent, his 'zen'...his basic outlook and talent about life is pretty great....

  • Yup as you say. So many dislikes would explain a lot about hell ! He always gives me a buzz anyway !

  • Amazing!!

  • 93 dislikes? I can not even imagine how that must feel. Humans are diverse and either a certain music resonates with one's soul or it doesn't. This song is to more than amazing ...it speaks to me on so many levels...thanks you James ! So, for the rest of you 93 whatever...carry on with what makes your soul resonate...

  • this is music <3

  • simple and beautiful a great song writer

  • i wish people these days listened to real music like this.

  • @citysk8er3118 i wish people like you would shut the fuck up

  • @citysk8er3118 birdy has just released this song.

  • James Taylor makes people think ..and feel........he is a musical genius...who weaves his magic to those who will listen , and has us coming back for more and more and more....

  • Still the golden voice, sweet baby James!

  • who is the suzanne he's talking bout?

  • @IAINoodle his friend who suffered cancer.

  • @APrayski Would like to hear about that sometime. You posted anything?..;-)

  • @APrayski Would like to hear about that sometime. You posted anything?..;-)

  • beautifulllllllllllllllll

  • Really something. The face and the voice are still there, 100% unchanged in the essence. There are a few who have held up this well -- Eric Burdon is one too. Gives ya hope.

  • I just found may way here by way of a watching wonderful YouTube cover this great James Taylor song performed by an amazingly talented kid named AJSIL.

I had not listened to any James Taylor in a while, and certainly would not have thought I would find my way back here by way of a 13-year old.

I must be losing it man!

  • is it wierd tht tear up when i hear this

  • This is one of the most incredible songs of all time hands down

  • it"s all good baby!

  • This is a real musician lest anybody has any doupt!

  • FUCK THE BEATLES!!!!

  • i seen james taylor live back in 2009.. its a must they are incredible

  • This song was playing the last time I popped the bulbous sores on my ass!

  • im from a place where my people dont really listen to this type of music, my people relates more to Rap, R&B, and POP. But crazy as it seams, because of all the violence we endure in our nieghborhoods and the lives lost because of the violence, this song relates to so many lives that I and so many others have lost. Jame Taylor is one Artist i wish i could have seen in concert live. He truely captured the true meaning of a lost frienship through this song.

  • @iclazarre He still tours - hope you do get to see him!

  • @iclazarre your comment almost made me wanna cry ='(

  • @iclazarre He is just great live. I was able to see him last year with Carol King. Just amazing.

  • @iclazarre how amazingly sad. I am lucky to live in a relatively non-violent part of my country. I feel that we all come from a place where we all really do want to live in some sort of peace..whatever that means to the individual...but whether it's Rap. R&B or POP- there's some great stuff there as well - I like a little of everything - crappy that you've lost due violence...i hope you hang on to the good and remember it's still alive within your soul

  • @iclazarre jame's was out when i was a teen early 70's the music back then was truly original, peaceful, and those of us that lived during that era could relate, this song says to me, there willl always be a time to find each other again, whether its here on earth or beyond.... ive never seen james in concert, this was my music way back in a better peaceful loving each other time

  • @iclazarre You make it sound as though he were dead. You can see him still. He's better today than ever, even in his mid-60s. Take a shot...buy a ticket when he comes to your area. The guy spends bookoo time on the road--he's bound to hit your locale. A James Taylor concert is a bit like a religious experience. That, coming from an atheist (kinda like James).

  • @iclazarre He's still alive (James Taylor), and probably still touring. You may get a chance to see him if you want. I'm not normally a fan of this kind of music either, but his poetry is so beautiful, and his voice is so sweet on the ears, that it's hard to resist.

  • @DLRS1 Mannnnnnnnnnnn...exactly what I was thinking when I read iclazarre's comment- the man is still alive and Very kicking- it don't James is going anywhere we can't reach him (read into that as you will) soon xo

  • Man, I want a James Olson guitar SOooooo bad!!!! Unfortunately, there's like a one year wait for one, and you have to pony up about $25 thousand. Oh, well...guess I stick with my Taylors and Martins.

  • @rickcee I would kill for a Taylor, cherish what you have ;)

  • @rickcee Can't you just be happy with your Martin - it's probably beauttttttttttttttttiful ....sometimes we want too much- I had a piano ,now I don't...I'd just like a piano or a keyboard period..............'nuf said

  • @iclazarre I don't know what to say!!!! Where are yo from? Good luck!

  • @iclazarre You, Sir (or Madam) are a class act!

  • show maravilhoso,nós brasileiros amamos.....
