  • One thing I'll say for him, Jesus is cool!

  • There will be NO surpassing of the 1970 version....so faggatabout it dudes!

  • Still the best version, still the best actor/singers, best musicians and best arrangements. Murray and Gillan, Brox and Keith as Caiaphas and Annas, most soul and most FUNK. Some fools just have no perception.

  • "What then to do about this Jesus-mania? How do we deal with a carpenter king? Where do we start with a man who is bigger than John was when John did his baptism thing?"

    Best lines ever!! XD

  • this is great check out my channel

  • true. annas is much more badass in this version compared to the 1973 movie. I think both rock, but the 1970 soundtrack group seems to sing the tunes more, and partake in the jesus christ project as musicians. I think the 1973 group acts all the songs out more. Both groups can sure sing, regardless.

  • Annas is badass in this one!

  • Is this from a vinyl or is this from a CD? If this is from a vinyl it must have been in very good condition or you were very good at getting rid of the hiss and pops

  • GUNS 4 ALL

    ASK Holder

  • I enjoy ALL good music regardless of ur opinion

  • I own this album but ty for ur access

  • "quick caiphas go call the roman guard" the 1973 version is back!!!

  • The difference in voices between Caiaphas and Annas is great!

  • though i am athiest and believe religion is a way to control the mases and was created by cultures of the past that could not explain what science now shows, the story of jesus is compelling and interests me, and parts of what some religion teaches like common kindness and such are good

  • @ceeprus

That's all very nice jboo, but how did you enjoy the album/song? I would think that was the main point to the post, no?

  • Still the best version.

  • C#2. OMG!

  • Between my brother and I, I think we wore this album thin back then.

  • Pinky and the Brain!

  • this is better

  • wheres the one where they whip the shit out of him

  • I persoanlly think the 2000 version has much better singers. But better voice actors? Not by a long shot; the acting in this version is excellent.

  • The story of Jesus is so amazing and interesting. This musical just makes me closer to God. Andrew Lloyd Webber must have had a divine purpose to write this music to spread the word of Christ. Jesus, we love You.

  • Funky..........yeah, the 1970 version is the best by far.

  • Funky..........

  • Caiaphas rocks!

  • "Jesus is cool" LOL!!!!!

  • Best song in the musical.

  • Love Annas' voice

  • The 1970 version is not as good as the 1973 soundtrack version because the performers were not as talented!!!

  • @RufusThewittyDog best joke ive herad in years

  • @RufusThewittyDog Are you nuts?

  • Has anyone heard the original (1970) recording re-mastered on CD (and sold by Amazon)? Have seen a few reviews of the quality - pros and cons. Any opinions before I buy? Can't find my LP - even had a record player we never connected to play my small prized collection of LPs!

  • Thanks for giving us the original recording, IdeasRUs714!

  • its amazing what they did in 1970 Gillan, Brox, Keith, Head, Eillingman and other best voices, nothing can be compared with this , any cover would be a shame! It's just a masterpiece and one of the best tunes of 20 th century, legendary music, and one of the highet achievments of humandkind in music! Can not live without this album a week. Everytime I get the same magnificient feeling listening to these songs,,,,

  • upload this ..l..

  • u talk like reporters that stumbled on a story 2 weeks 2 late

  • I remember when I was pretty young, my dad would play this song when we would listen to music, even though, I never even understood what this song meant for about 10 years, I just thought the voices were funny.

  • 2000 version was a lame shame!!!

  • "One thing I'll say for him, Jesus is cool."

  • @19gonzaga99 : I've been electrified by it since my friend in high school put a set of headphones on me and said, "Here, try this and see what you think of it." Saw it live on stage in 1996. It drives me, and there's no escape from it. ;]

  • I am in no way an anti-chirstian, but this is one of my favorite songs from Jesus Christ Superstar. I just love it! It's very catchy and very humorous, in my opinion. Again, I am not an anti-christian.

  • @emmyrossumfn101 Yes, it is pretty humorous, but I think the funniest song from JCS has to be King Herod's Song!

  • @emmyrossumfn101 Chillax, no need for excuses, it's a kickass song, one of my favourite songs is Whats the buzz and i'm practically anti christian haha.

  • who me?

  • Ciaphas's voice is godlike in this version

  • @HouseOBVIOUSLY I know!

  • @HouseOBVIOUSLY ha ha funny you should say that since he's singing about killing Jesus.

  • No sienten la emoción correr en todo su cuerpo al escuchar algo verdaderamente bello... como estas voces.

  • Thanks for putting up the original London version. This is by far the best version of JC Superstar

  • My music teacher gave me the soundtrack. JCS is a true masterpiece

  • This version has the only Annas I really like

  • @JamieBugajski I think he (Ciaphas) does sing that part, but I could be wrong....I'm going mostly by what i saw in the 73 movie. There are two priests with high voices....Annas and a no name....the crackly one is the no name

  • @JamieBugajski one of the really high ones is Annas. the one that goes really low is Ciaphas....the leader of the priests in this city/town/province thingy.....I forget...

  • Am I right when I say that Ian Gillan sang JC on the audio while Ted Neeley was just lip singing in the movie?

  • @bolar500 You are not right.

  • @ absolute-He already died to save us ALL from our sins. Even you

  • This song is very very cool, im auditioning for Caiaphas in a few weeks, and i have to use this song. Its gr8 to sing

  • You have to remember that the goal here is to tell a story! That involves conveying emotions in the song. It's not just "a tune", it is part of a story line. The 1970 version is the only one that I've heard that stays true to telling a story. others seem to be showing off.

  • @boosuedon The word is "Theatrical". These interpreters of the original artwork at the direction of its creators Rice and Webber actually sang this on stage live. These were not some technical singers going through the motions, without emotion, just to cut a record in the studio or for film with multiple retakes and editing. Eliman is super in both I might add.

  • Annas is so fantastic in this version. This is the first version I learned and I've never even liked another Annas. :\

  • Hell yeah he is. The guy that played Annas actually played Jesus on this rare ass recording I have on vinyl somewhere in my pit called a house.

  • This is my favorite version of this song.

  • the last two digits of how long this lasts is 33

  • no shit

  • The 1973 still pawns.

  • the fact that this is a concept album suprises me I mean the show isn't changed really from this album except for a few lyceres I've never seen the show but I have the 1996 UK recording and I've seen both film versions

  • Wow, the Annas in this version sounds terrible, he doesn't even reach some of the notes once it gets into the "what then to do about Jesus of Nazareth" part. Aside from that, his voice is raspy and highly unpleasant to listen to. One of the other priests sounds like he's on helium too.

I'll say the Caiaphas from this version is okay, but he lacks the power that either of the movie versions gave him. Even so, he shows impressive range: D2-B♭4, nearly three octaves, in a single song.

  • That is sooo weird for me to read that. I used to put the needle back on the vinyl over and over again just to hear Annas's voice. I still love it and was disapointed by the "airy" voiced actor in the movie version. I'm a musician myself, so I guess it's just a matter of taste.

  • Yeah, dramatically different taste. I've also heard that you generally like the version you first get to know best, and that seems true quite often. The first version of Jesus Christ Superstar that I got to know was the 2000 movie version, and I love absolutely everything about it. There are a lot of things I can't stand about the 1973 movie version, including Annas and his dull falsetto singing. I like some things about the 1970 album, like Ian Gillan's voice, but I cannot stand that Annas.

  • Tarantinomaniac: Knock it off, You aren't fooling anyone.

Nauseating little twerp with an axe to grind about a generation.

  • True...this is and always will be the BEST version. Nothing could possibly top it

  • I can't agree with that enough - 'you generally like the version you first get to know best'. Having said that - the emotions of the 1973 version have just bowled me over, even though I grew up on the 2000 version, with it's better sound quality. The imperfections of the 1973 version just fit so well with the plot.

  • I was first introduced to the show by seeing a stage performance of it, and the next day my dad played the tape of it for me in the car, I'm not sure which it was, but a few years later I rediscovered the show, and was watching clips on youtube, and I tried to like the 1973 version, considering that that's said to be the "original classic" and all, but I just can't. To me, the 2000 version is just absolutely better in every possible way.

  • 2000 version is a shame!

  • @retrorteretro The 2000 version has just been updated. Sure it hasn't the classic sound of this version but I takes a more dramatic approach to the story. More suited to theatre. They are both excellent in their own field... apples and oranges.

  • @Tarantinomaniac This is the best Annas there is. He's supposed to sing with a groove. This was written as a rock album, not a play. It wasn't designed to have operatic singers sing it. He sings it correctly.

  • Thanks to whoever uploaded this for uploading it in stereo.

Thanks to Weber & Rice for portraying Jesus as the hairy, scary heretic he was.

  • Victor Brox as Caiaphas is simply amazing.

  • He really is, and also please dig the bass playing on this.

The original album was no trifling assembly of musicians.

  • great upload - thanks!

  • we need a more permanent solution to our problem!!!!!

  • Overture gets your attention,it got mine

  • I have the double record not one but two records mint condition

  • 1970 sounds a bit lame compared to 1973 haha

  • @FPtje You kidding? The 1973 version of this song in particular is abysmal.

  • is bogdan kominowski on any of these tracks i understand he is on the concept album?

  • Just so you guys know, I will be uploading the rest of this eventually, I've just been busy.

And fyi, you can buy this version of the JCS album on Amazon. ^_^

  • @IdeasRUs714 You still haven't loaded the rest of "Act II", or side 2 of the LP. Many of us would be greatly appreciative.

  • Why didn't you do the whole album?

  • yeah more please

  • Briliant music. It is such a time capsule of the good music that was inspired of the late 60's and early 70's

  • Brox owned this song...his deep voice added so much character to this soundtrack. I am glad this was the first version I heard

  • The first voice here is not Annas, but another priest. Brian Keith of English Congregation sings Annas starting with "Listen to the howling mob...". I think he has a great voice.

  • i definitely would second that....this is my favorite recording, so much soul. I was disappointed with the movie priests because I heard this version years before I ever saw the movie. Brox and Kieth give this song so much character with the differing powerful voices they bring to the table

  • I feel you. I had the album first and the Movie is not even close.

  • i hate this annas -.- Kurt Yaghjian was the best

  • can u plz post "Superstar"?

  • My fave on the original album. I don't like the movie version of this song, Annas sounds too high pitched. In the original it's the priest with the cool, conniving Peter Lorre rasp.

  • love this song

  • the best versoin out here (apart the the old vidio version) :)

  • Best Album of all Time!
