wonderful editing! This movie is so touching, a concentration of feelings and such an original story. I hate those critics who underrated this movie because of "unanswered questions" which were obviously not to be answered.....

@SiriusCJS I can't understand why more people aren't raving at this superb film. I keep recommending it and the book to my friends, and few have heard of it. I finished the book on a plane to Barcelona, and cried all the way through to baggage reclaim! (very embarassing for a middle aged man)
@mmartini50 How is the book overall? I'm about half way through it & I'm thinking of abandoning it. It's good, but there are some notable differences that almost ruin what the movie means to me.
@SiriusCJS I read the book before I saw the film, which I guess gives me the opposite problem to you. Each have different strengths imo. The prose in the book is so understated, the events so ordinary, that I felt it underwhelming, even pedestrian, at times. But by the end I felt this was a strength - it was like a punch to the solar plexus when Tommy died, hope was abandoned and Kathy was left without him, all the stronger because of the lack of histrionics in Ishigoro's writing style.
Aches at every moment, encapsulates the journey of these 3 with emotional honesty, but anything with Tommy's rage would hit you in the gut.
