  • 72ogus George Michael and Andrew ridgeley ( the other guy) did write "careless whisper"together Andrew was also the guitarist

  • Some tunes just have that swing!

  • Love this song can't believe it's 27 years old

  • i love george!♥♥♥

  • Where have these good times gone?

  • Great memories..This is real music.

  • This was George Michael at his best. Well........his most gorgeous anyway. I can still remember every girl at school talking about him the next morning. Brilliant memories. :D

  • I was only 9 and i remember it like it was yesterday!!♥♥♥♥

  • The best singers ever r always gay. Ex. Freddie Mercury, George Micheals.

  • @chuawa15 Yeah, the best singers are always gay, Eg Tom Jones- a man well known for his aversion to women........ROFL What bollocks!

  • what was the function of the other guy??

  • @72oguz nothing he doesnt even have the guitasr plugged in, and never does on stage , george was always a solo act, wrote all the songs , but in the 80's they figured it out that a 2 person group is more popular than a solo act, so they just stuck with it

  • PERFECT WHAM!

  • I think the BLOND hair represented him being bisexual

  • Heck, what's the name of that presenter saying "it's the new A side". I've completely forgotten it!

  • Hey look at that! Andrew Ridgley got bored of being told he was shit on guitar, so he thought he'd have a change and be shit on the bass too. He was quite the multi instrumentalist wasn't he??

  • people who are gay because of frustration or wtv -,-, so please respect their privacy and it doesn't even involves youu all to be a busybody -.-

  • hahaha hit track better england dan & john ford coley

  • I love George Michael no matter what

  • iam 46 and to think i used to get wound up 28 years ago with my ex who used to love george michael.how stupid i was.god bless the 80s

  • This has been one of my favorite songs since I first heard this in 1984 when I was 10.

  • i swear to god 1985 was the best year in history !!

  • @iloveEngland16 For music yes, but not when ur parents get divorced in that year. :P

  • @iloveEngland16 Music history, at least!

  • So much hotter than Simon Lebon

  • Hahaha! 4:25 nice family-friendly gesture by the drummer there.

  • Cheeky buggers get 5mins of miming time, whereas most 80s greats have to get their songs out of the way in under 4mins. Definite favouritism perhaps?

  • Let's hear it for all the guys-George Michael is fucking brilliant, and my kids agree with me!!

  • Really, all you have to do is look at the smile on his face each time he performs and ask yourself "does this guy give a fuck about what people think". Not really, especially people on youtube. Sexuality = not important, get over your own insecurities kids.

  • One is stacking shelves in tesco, the other is bending over shelves in tesco.

  • GET MY CEE- WALK ON THROWIN UP MY SET THIS THUG-LIFE ON MINES FOO !

  • E' GRANDE E' MITICO E' UNICO

  • looks horrible when somebody does playback without microphone!!

  • Love it...

  • Gay or Not He is so talented, I love this song as I had and I think we all have had a woman like the one in this song, also George was married.

  • @bigGaza1 No he wasn't

  • nothing compares to them

  • this came out 4 years b4 i was born lol

  • Man did I ever have a crush on Andrew!! I also loved to watch George dance lol

  • I think this was a very early song that George wrote. Careless WHisper was apparently written at 15 on the top deck of a bus and this was shortly after. This is my favourite George song because it is so ahead of its time. The lyrics are so true. Brilliant!

  • Wham! recorded Everything She Wants in 1984.

  • Nevermind the Lady Di hair... look at Andrew Ridgeley's outfit!!!

  • On the 1st, January 1985, he was 21 !!

  • Andrew Ridgeley was about as useful as a doorstop

  • How cute he was in those days !

  • What is up with these fags leaving comments about him being gay? Who cares?!? Why look up his videos just to leave ignorant remarks? Who cares, he's a hell of a singer and this is a hell of a song!!!!!

  • he's a little bicth....

  • its the best band ever of the 80s the music of them is super realy cool and the best im the bigstes fan of the 80s

    gr v

  • I loved Wham went to see them in concert wearing our go go tops and tube skirts lol

  • faggot go back to the park shithouse and chat a copper up.knob

  • este es mi grupo favorito los dema no son nada

  • George michael looks like the English John Farnham

  • OMG!! I remember watching this performance on TOTP - I was nearly 14.

I was a HUGE WHAM FAN and had posters of them all over my bedroom walls.

I received as a Christmas present the "Make It Big" cassette and played it to death.

George Michael - GOD THIS MAN IS JUST SOOOO TALENTED!!

  • Megaexcelente canción, además de esa gran pasión que transmite al estar en el escenario George Michael..., lástima de su preferencia sexual, guapísimo hombre, Angélica.

  • Is that Pepsi and Shirley I spy in the background? Love them! Wham! forever!!

  • I'm not gay... but I love him! A model, every girl was crazy for him. I wish I could look like him

  • the lyrics of this song are quite serious, but looking at this, it is frivolous, with dance moves :S

  • Only THE GEORGE can pull off white socks with loafers

  • Bring back the 80's !!

  • last appearance shaved.....

  • ain't nothing like the 80's,real pop music, not like the rubbish made today.

  • George and Andy in their prime.....Amazing......nothing but...

  • Sweet George...so talented and fine!

  • this is when gm were too gay but nobody realizes of that...

  • this is before george went gay

  • to all the clowns... fashion was sick and the chicks ohh my god with there crosses and bangles were just totally ezy and fuckable ..u dummys now cant even cop a root at a club unless you look like bradpitt fuckin emos and garbage spastics..die dumb!!!

  • @elareh No doubt

  • Great times, hey ho...

  • fuckin brilliant but at the same time shit ridgeky you charleton you chancer how did we get the michael stuff from that crap its a miracle

  • just cut the guy a break!!!! gay...who cares...i'd have him any day and so would ANY of u!!!....look to the passion and the talent of the artist!!! tho i canrt help thinking just how much of a sexy bugger he iz!! lol..mel

  • This song is dedicated to Tiger Woods.

why are they miming the act cant they sing live & why is Ridgley wearing a cross between his pajamas & something flamboyant you'd wear at the golf course?

  • hahaha great!!

  • @uncreativeranter It WAS the '80's, those long, flowing, tartan suits were in fashion then! As were baggy silk shirts, long strings of pearls, diamante brooches and big, permed hair! It was a different world back then!

  • uncreativeranter @ ni modo

tienes razon, y lastima que nunca encontraron un buen coreografo que les enseñara a bailar, sobre todo a George!

  • @uncreativeranter rofl, hilarious!

  • Yeah but Elton John was never exactly a man who made women weak at the knees. George Michael did, all the girls loved him. If he had come out during Wham it would have been the end of the bands sucess.

  • i take it this is the UK version because the US version is somewhat different.. it wasn't until May of '85 that it hit #1 here in the states but i agree this is the best Wham! song by far...

  • GORGEOUS. I don't care what anybody says about the lady di hair. ha..

  • 1985 was absolutely tragic for fashion.

  • Pepsi and Shirley did well out of it too.

  • it's better with the bridge in it

  • What a shame George Micheal turned out to be gay or at least bi-sexual as I am sure he had an interest in girls as well. Oh well at least no one knew until the late 1990s. But if word had got out back then in the mid 80s Wham's career would have been finished. Thankfully he kept quiet about it until long after Wham had split up.

  • george didn't knew he was homo in the 80's,he wasn't sure yet about his sexual orientation

  • Why is does it matter that he's gay? Is it a shame that Elton John, Freddy Mercury, Rob Halford, Billy Preston, Little Richard are gay too? Or the David Bowie & Mick Jagger are known to have slept together? What does that have to do with the contributions they made to music or their value as human beings? BTW, Elton John came out in the 70's and sustained a career well past the 80's.

I'm straight - I just don't understand peoples hang ups over who consenting adults love.

  • @johntguitar Can you replicate yourself pleeez?? The world needs more tolerant people like you.

  • @jposh707 LOL Thanks. I guess I was just lucky enough to be raised around the world and around all sorts of people. I've seen assholes, saints, idiots and geniuses in all forms. I guess that's where my tolerance comes from.

    Best wishes

  • @johntguitar sound like a homophobic!!

  • @johntguitar Bingo bango bongo. Right on. We don't love musicians or actors, etc for their bedroom habits, but for their craft. As if any of us are perfect and totally without reproach. People and their bloody insecurities projecting it into hatred upon others. Evolve people. We are all the same, flesh and blood and bones. See us all in an x-ray machine and we all look the same. Think about it.

  • @johntguitar ......wait a minute Little Richard's gay? Lol

  • @johntguitar Mercury was bisexual.

  • George Michael said this was his favourite Wham song. You can tell, he dances on fire in the video.

  • Best Wham song EVER

  • OMG does George look HOT!

  • this is the end of wham, unfortunately...

  • Andrew is holding a bass guitar!

  • quelle video magnifique! merci! super! wham for ever in my heart!

  • What makes me laugh is how in the 80s no one knew this was miming lol

  • yes but i think we were just so in the moment of everything changing and the view we didnt care to notice, we all went with the flow back then noone asked questions if it was good it was good

  • No we did know they were miming actually. It was TOTP policy at the time. It just never bothered us. Apart from on The Tube it was pretty much the default position. :-)

  • I love John Peels expression as Wham are introduced, he's disgusted that such 'crap' could be given such airplay. John educated a nation in good music and i was one of his students but i hope he is not turning in his grave as i admit to actually liking this song, its like a loose tooth that i cant stop playing with, sorry john. RIP

  • Music is 360°, only music from John Peels risks to become annoying and not interesting after a while, great music is great because is compared to other music. It's like claiming that world should be full of roses and not full with margueries, but a world full of both its much much much better and anjoyable.

  • thx for posting, takes me right back to the day when i

  • was expirementing with gay men? or woman?

  • made my first magnet......! ha ha ha ha ha, or should that be he he he he hehe....Who knows, can someone please tell me

  • good for you ,

  • haahaha

  • i especially love the kung fu dance moves of George Michael

  • More disturbing are the bozo presenters..

I wish I could have been one of the backup dancers

  • Wow.. this song brings back a time when life was all about going to the disco & giggling at boys! LOL@ what Andrew is wearing! God bless the 80's!!

  • Oh my god I heard this song when I was eight years old, My body starts movin when I hear the song. I'm hearin it after 20 years now.

  • I don't care what any 1 say's about George he is sooo good loking and he can dance his ass off I seen him in Philly last year and he was great even at the age he is

  • I loved Wham but George Michael has become a self righteous, prentious arse...But his song writing is brilliant..

  • She's also a fat burger loving junkie who lost her kids to K-Fed.

Have you seen her most recent tour?

Let me sum it up for you.

Less than beautiful trailer trash stomps around stage in a cliched performance of tackyness and hair flicking.

Now let's talk about the majestic beauty that is Wham! and George Michael's Princess Diana hair flick...That hair's got talent.

  • Andrew Ridgley was clearly the one in Wham! with all the real talent. Look at the way he's mimicking the music on his unplugged-in bass guitar while wearing a plaid leisure suit; 'nuff said.

  • We all know that George MIchael IS a great singer - one of the all time great singers, and he has consistently produced and sang great songs - up there with the Beatles, no doubt about that. A BRITISH INSTITUTION TO BE PROUD OF.

  • I went to his concert in atlanta last year, and actually he IS a great singer, he sang live for almost 2 hours and he sounded amazing.

  • This Top of the Pop performances are hillarious ^U^...Goerge, where is your microphone?LoL

  • gotta love that 80s shimmy...

glad no ones dances like that nemore!

  • As George has been quoted as saying: 'This is not a 'Bubblegum-Pop Song'... It is a song that still carries well today and is perfectly written and sung. His craft is superb! Back then (and now)he knew (still knows) how to write music that would (will) jump out of the radio...

  • Very well written, with perfect punctuation.

  • cabrazo joven

  • britney comes to studio...sings a song tht has been written, arranged, tuned by someone else...then go infront of camera...does a "hot" video... cant even lip sync properly... can anybody tells me where's the talent in tht?

  • i wud love to see george clean shaved nw...wonder hw look like then !!!!!!!

  • That's not entirely true about the facial hair thing. George did shave his beard when Wham! went over to China, which was months later in April, but that was it after that.

  • he's a great singer songwriter and actually he CAN SING amazingly! check other videos like mtv unplugged or queen tribute concert

  • hello have you got top of the pops xmas speial 1985 or 1989 on video can u put it on to you tube please from king kong bald one

  • Masterpiece!

  • George is "toooo hot" here!

  • love george michael even he is gay. it doesn't matter. what matter most is his music. his song is written so wonderfully and with class. he is one of the greatest artist of all time!

  • 80's top of the pops was the best.. loved every day of my life in the 80's as a little kid.. wish i could go back to the past!! i miss the nineteen eighties!!

  • The great George Michael, one of the best-selling artists of all-time. People forget that don't they?

  • Oh, absolutely, especially in America, where pockets of this country still treat him like this gay caricature/has been.

  • He's so hot sexy and more than anything talented. He's God's gift to mankind.

  • and how many number ones have you had????

you must like or you wouldnt watch

  • Yes going by his carrer he is clearly 'talentless' and 'pop music trash', hence the Grammys, American Music Awards, MTV Awards, Brit Awards, sold out tours, over 100 million album sales and dozens on #1's around the world for over two decades. Yes your night no talent there what so ever!

  • You silly child...awards and album sales does not equate to someone having talent.

Britney Spears has awards and album sales and she has about as much talent as an insect.

It is brainless pop music rubbish.

  • Britney doesn't write all her own music, play ALL the instruments, do all the arrangments and produce it all herself does she?

  • Britney co-writes and co-produces some of her songs. She doesn't arrange herself but she knows what kind of arrangements she wants and her songs are arranged to her requests.

And I don't think it's brainless pop music rubbish. Most of her songs are very well written as for texts, and the melody does exactly what Britney wants it to do : it gets you dancing with her. It's her way to share and I appreciate that.

  • what`s that got 2do with wham!

  • Classic 1985. Thanks for posting a fab memory. Ignore the idiots who seem to love spamming the comments.

  • He is absolutely gorgeous........it is easy to remember how 1985 felt!!!...wonderfull

  • i'll tell you what the hell i want, its you george and only you! xo hot!

  • love that song!love wham, love george michael!back then,as a teenager,i was so crasy about him(and still does today)that i missed all my exams!to busy thinking about him 24/7!singing all his songs!crying for him all night!and today!in still a massive fan!love you george!and thanks for the video!

  • Its so funny when people cant tell between lipped and not lipped. He doesn't even have a freaking mic lol All the tv performances in the 80s were lipped. They sang live in there concerts.

  • Classic song, still great more than 20 years later!

I love the dance - and check out the white socks on George... :-)

  • this is mimed, all totp was mimed in the 80's i think

  • These two guys, a Greek and an Egyptian, put out the best song of the year. That says a lot.

  • yes and you wish that you and your almond were there!

  • It must have taken you all day to think of that comment...It's a pathetic one at that.

  • glad you liked it! oh i forgot the plural, at least i think you have 2?

  • No my dear, what you forgot was how to use English grammar.

Stupid child, you walked right into that one.

  • You dirty little whore. You keep up with the sexual innuendos but I'm not interested in your fat ass.

I have my share of women so stop sweating over me.

  • did i hit a nerve peanut!

  • God bless John Peel!

  • George are so sexy....

    great video !

  • i probly would have been more popular in grammar school if i had an oufit like ridgeley's. maybe that's why george kicked him out of the band

  • Just read some of the comments below. Didn't know this was a "mime" show where they lip synched.

  • Great song. Are they actually singing the song or mouthing it? Sounds exactly the same as the studio version. That takes a ton of musical talent to sing the same way in concert as you do in the video if they are indeed doing that.

  • I was in year 9. I remember playing this all the time I had posters of them everywhere in my room I thought George was such a spunk till I found out he was gay but I still love the music

  • even though it's such a fake and cheezy concert, i still love it!!!

  • The hair! The clothes! The great music! And we didn't care about lip-syncing! No ipods! No home computers (well, a few, and if you had one, it was HUGE), no cell phones!

    Ah, the salad days. *sigh*

  • i was 13 and so in love with george omgudness. I still do those dance moves for crying out loud lol.

  • I never saw much Wham stuff outside their videos in the day. Nice to see a lot of interviews and live performances and stuff on YouTube.

Glad somewon saved this stuff !

  • God, I love this song so much. Great tune! They don't make music like they used to. This song inspires me, and reminds me of the good old things I used to do in the past, other than reminding me of the 80s. I also love the 80s. Those were the days, the days I will never forget. I'll keep listening to these old songs forever. Thank you Wham.

  • I agree with you 100%, music now just doesn't have what it used to...

  • Great performance. My mum and dad taped this at the time.

Sorry to be a nitpick, but this edition of TOTP went out on 3/1/1985, not 1/1/1985, as you see hosted by Richard Skinner and John Peel (RIP).

  • Was it a requirement on top to lipsync??? George totally doesn't need to do that, but on all these vids of top he does.
