  • he's such a piece of shit. raise our already highest taxs or cut spending on schools because how dare we cut all the bullshit that the state spends on. People in this state are fucking retarded do have voted this shit head back in. Instead of someone that would have actually cut costs.

  • Douche Bag.

  • asshole

  • Are you going to give your full backing this time into the investigation of Natalie Wood's death? Bearing in mind that you were in office during the 'whitewash' of 81! I won't mention she was once a former girlfriend of your's or that your a pal of Wagner's and the fact that the coroner conducting the inquest was fired for wanting a proper investigation! Who on earth has the power to fire a coroner? RIP Natalie Wood!

  • I voted 4 this piece of crap that ruin my life..............A proud Democrat.

  • too bad Mr. Brown believes he has an ongoing dialogue with our Sacramento politicians. He should know that the work dialogue should be Bull Shit.

We cannot do anything in this State until we get rid of both the Democrats and Republicans

  • I wish I could have been in Califorina when he was there instead of the two dopes Gray Davis and Schwneggar.

  • @CSUSBlikesOmfgcata ....what the hell...?

  • are state is fucked

  • California needs to STOP RUNNING BUSINESSES OUT OF STATE with its policies. This can be blamed both on Dems & Reps but not equally.

Jerry needs to apply some of his 1970s/1980s magic to see if he can resurrect the days of good taxation policy along with frugal state budgeting.

  • Give the Republicans the pension reforms that they are demanding Brown! Then they will put the taxes on the ballot for us to vote on. No tax bridge! You promised no taxes without our approval. Stop sheltering the truth & tell the people the truth that the unions are the real perpetrators that are not taking the deal.

  • Tax the rich and corporations at 50% and stop these DAMN WARS and the Military Industrial Complex and you would eat your words.Ex Marine,Recon.

  • No tax extensions! Get the money from the pay cuts to these outrageous salaries these state workers are getting. Slash their pensions, & make them pay for it. Hard spending cap! Thats all you need. If you weren't busy bowing down to the prison guards unions, then we would be getting closer to fixing the budget. Great job for giving them unlimited vacation which will cost the state billions in the future! Great job!

  • @CABermudez .....What is wrong with you RIGHTIES?This whole think started with a bad actor Reagan(and a lot worse President.Republicans have but us where we're at and keeping us down. All they know how to do is FILLERBUSTER everything but TAX CUT 4 GUESS WHO??????

  • Ok Now : Increase taxes on the med marajana dispensaries, since there is a rise in crime assosiated to there commercialization on the street. Oh is this true . .wake up to it- Ok . Up thereTaxes first. they is makin so many Millions, Boy oh boy.

  • The Following 3 posts: Read 3rd first, then second, then the one after this last.

  • @LaughOutLoudOrDie >>>Please do the last ..of you handle.

  • Remember, with that $830 a month I must pay rent, pay electric bills, gas bills, water and sewage bills, telephone bills, and internet connection, transportation to and from hospitals and doctors appointments, medical essentials Medi-Cal no longer covers... What's left over to eat? After all these SSI cuts I can't afford the grocery store next door. The truth - no exaggeration - it's a good week when I eat 4 meals per week. (Yes, 4... with nothing in my belly in between "meal days").

  • @LaughOutLoudOrDie then i hope you aren't voting democrat because WORKING people with jobs have to PAY for your SSI and Alot of people can't find jobs because the business climate in California is poison. Democrats don't want off shore drilling - Reducing your price in gas. Democrats don't want to have union pensions cut - which would keep more money in more essential programs. This state is being run by maniacs and gullible liberal voters.

Taxing the "rich" isn't a solution. This state is being run by maniacs and gullible liberal voters.

  • Schwarzenegger cut our SSI disability benefits 3 times within an 8 month period, forcing us to live beneath the 2008/2009 National poverty level. On top of that he cut many essential medical services and health benefits. They quoted you last week in the LA times as saying how it's time for all of us to make sacrifices. Well, Jerry, forcing this State's most vulnerable citizens to live nearly $1000 beneath the 2010/2011 National Poverty level, is a lot more like genocide.

  • Hey Jerry, by the time you get around to "going back to you, the people on the fundamental decisions we have to make as Californians" many of us will already be dead... Thanks to you, Jerry, both senior and disabled California citizens just received our fourth SSI cut. Considering our inability to work, you should be quite disgusted with yourself for continuing the legacy of that heartless, soulless Schwarzenegger... TBC...

  • Love this! Thanks for being transparent!

  • Repeal Proposition 13. Raise taxes on the wealthy and corporations. Reform state pensions slightly. Pass the CA Dream Act. Pass One Care for Califronia. Do it!

  • California needs to RAISE taxes on the wealthy and on corporations. Needs to end the Corporate welfare it gives to out of state corporations/industries.

  • WE NEED THE STATE TO STOP THE BS'' WE NEED ARE JOBS TO COME BACK ARE TAXES ARE HIGH TO MUCH RED TAPE TO OPEN I BESSSSSSSS''

  • thanks jerry u ARE KEEPING UR WORD

  • Jerry, I'm not your biggest fan, but I think this is a very responsible move. Good job.

  • Jerry, great to have you back! I urge republicans to back this plan. I want to see California reform the structural chronic overspending. We must live within our means.

  • Jerry Brown is doing what Democrats Do best NOTHING !!!!!!!!

  • Lower taxes to bring back business; which will increase revenue. Semi-annual audits should be mandatory. If car registration goes up...there is no way people can afford another car. If sales tax goes up(even temporarily) , you are asking for a BOYCOTT. Sorry, just don't have the money. Were all in some form of debt...not just the govt.

  • We've got to get people out to vote also

  • Hi Loathomar: There is some truth to you comments however, the 15% that you speak of is not make up of State employees. The 285,000 approx state employees are truly state employees and make up only 7% of the budget; the balance is made up of City, County and School employees.

  • Or the employment that is needed to maintain a working relation in this state and to establish independence from relying upon medical or medicade and welfear that would be a big pluse although i have paid into the system I'm too young to retire and consider a health hazard to work so what can i do?? answer that please without lying..

  • Dear Governor Brown. you made a promise to the people of California by adding more job opportunities, ssi Benifits and Medecal Benifits as well but insted of making good on those promises you have more excuses then mr schwarzenegger. And the only solution you have is to raise taxes and cut medical health care for people like me who have to relyed on such resources. My condition is type 2 diabetes with limmited medical help and at the age of 55 and no job where can the people like me get help?

  • Hello to All: With all do respect to those of you that think that the only way to balance the budget is to cut employee pay; state employee pay is less than 7% of the entire state budget. We have had 15% of our pay cut for the last 3 years; when do we get a break? I would think balancing the budget has to be a bigger picture that just 238,000 people (approx ca state employees). Stop giving illegal aliens money to live here, use the vacant bldgs, madatory work programs, clean up the prisons

  • @a1973cuda1 I am sorry, but I call BS are your "state employee pay is less than 7% of the entire state budget", just looking at k-12 ed, you have over 30% of all state budget spending. Most then half of this is going to state employees, teachers and admins, that's over 15% in the first section of the budget. Really, it seems you are using a very poor number for "ca state employees" as CalPERS says it represents 1.6 million California public employees, but being off by a factor of 8 is not biggy.

  • Gov Brown, you need to cut the payments to those who are here "illegally" first. This state is nothing more than a train wreck, and has been since at least 1990! The party is OVER !!!!

  • @Whitsettguy Really the government does not provide for illegals, but all children are provided a k-12 educations legal or illegal. But the state has no choice in this, "The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1982 that states must provide public school education to all children, regardless of citizenship, and the state has no option but to abide by that decision." This is most of the cost. The only other large cost is imprisonment and there is talk of move more to the federal system.

  • There is also ER cost, which is also hard to deal with, but is also federal law. Then the is care for children born here, who are citizens, but who's parents are not. A child who is born here is a citizen, not matter there parents legal status, so it is difficult to reason why a child citizen should be refuse care for what there family did.

  • @bellivi You know! California is Liberal and would be control by Democrats. And everything you are saying would not become true in CA. You can do one thing Move to another State if you don't like it. Simple as that. maybe Texas? or shitty Alabama or Mississippi ...

  • @MrNewtGingrich

You obviously haven't seen how well Texas is doing compared to the "Golden State".....California is well on it's way to likes of Michigan.

  • @Whitsettguy Texas is in great shape.. Nothing wrong with that.. My point is. CA Republicans need to become moderate. Need to be Pro-GAY , Pro-Abortion, Pro-Immigration, Pro-Climate Change and some other things.. In fiscal matters Republicans are somewhat better and that's why we need a MODERATE GOP. And this state can be better off. And Texas has a big portion of their population Hispanic 37% as same as CA.. That's the only way CA can get better a Fiscal moderate Republican would be fine

  • Don't worry Californians.. The GOP would become extinct in the State of California come 2012!! Thanks to redistricting. Democrats would have Super Majority in both houses and Democrats would Control Everything . (they already do) but we would not need the 4 R Votes anymore.. Even the governor can be ignore!!! 2012 the GOP would be irrelevant unless they become a Moderate party someone can actually vote for...

  • @MrNewtGingrich You GOP people forget it was you prop 13 that ruined our state. Did you forget? and the 2/3 super majority? That is why things don't get done.

  • @Angdma14 Things dont get done because everyone votes bureaucrats into office to decide what's best for them. This state is fucked because of to much government intervening. And it has driven everyone out out.

  • What a bunch of phony baloney...where is the pension reform Gov Brown??? The voters of California are now educated and informed and know that we are being gouged by the lack of pension reform. There is no meaningful pension reform in the current budget process. What in the world is he talking about in this video message??? We're voting NO on tax extensions or increases. The sacrifice is a one way street. Only the tax payers are being asked to sacrifice. That's not enough!

  • once again the GOP is digging their heels and causing more problems for the people just to gain political points, JUST so they can turn around and blame the Governor.

Dont worry Brown, im not ignorant like most other people, i know your trying your best but once again the GOP is making it hard for everybody. They must have been watching what the GOP did to Obama his first two years.

Keep fighting for us Jerry :)

  • Ok Clown.....I'd LOVE to vote NO again!! Just like I did on Prop 1a a mere 2 years ago!!

Prop 1a was DESTROYED by a 2 to 1 margin. It LOST 65% - 35%, and even with all of your bullcrap propoganda money from the unions for TV and radio ads.....there's NO WAY IN HELL you'll be able to swing 30% of the electorate!!

    Latest PPIC poll results....

52% of Democrats vote NO on the taxes!!

65% of Independants vote NO on the taxes!!

76% of Republicans vote NO on the taxes!!

    Good luck pal!!! LOL

  • USSR communists did crash & burn by over spending. CA government has become an over-bearing, bossy, helicopter parent to its citizens.

Make prison guards pay10 percent of their pension contribution, cut all state worker pay by1 percent, cut Lightbourne's $343,000 plus a $400 monthly vehicle pay to over see programs for the needy ($51,000 above his predecessor). Cut regulations and regulators.

  • WANNA PUT CALIFORNIAN'S BACK TO WORK, WANNA PUT CALIFORNIA BACK IN THE BLACK?

    PASS SB 676

  • O.K., here's my vote: NO!

  • your still stealing from the poor and giving to the rich. republicians are going to stall anymore taxes, because they have no idea what $20 means to a elderly person.

  • I'm sure Brown is counting on votes from those who receive so much govt spending while not paying for it.There is no way California can invite millions of poor immigrants into a state with high benefits, that would work for tax paying citizens.California spends more on one child of a poor immigrant family than the whole family earned in their home country. How about $5K per year education vouchers as a start. That would save enough to end the deficit. How about lowering CA's sky high cap gains tax?

  • WOO HOO!!!! My car tax, sales tax, and income tax GO DOWN in a mere 13 days!!!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!

  • Let Us Vote!

  • Do not balance the budget on the backs of working people. California's corporate tax rate is lower then most states. Especially those on the East Coast.

  • @vc50er,

If you are suggesting that he balance the budget by raising corp tax rates, then he would indeed be doing exactly what you advise against. Even when corps pay taxes... they don't pay any taxes. First, and foremost, the money that goes to the gov in taxes gets paid by consumers in higher prices (it's a pass through/hidden tax on you). Second, money that could have been used to create jobs in the private sector, goes to gov instead. Doesn't CA already have an unemployment problem?

  • @jokertim777

The Califonia economy is larger than many countries. Corporations hold their prices at the highest level possible. If taxes go up their profits go down. And make sure they pay their taxes. If they could lay off a worker they would already have done it. You can't keep your profits by raising prices or laying off workers. CA taxes are 1/2 those of my birth state of Massachusetts.

  • @vc50er,

"Corporations hold their prices at the highest level possible" Wrong. You simplistic view of the corp price structure and strategies is appalling.

"You can't keep your profits by raising prices or laying off workers" Wrong again. Corps have been doing exactly that to raise profits, which they are holding as cash to weather economic uncertainty. You haven't even been paying attention to current events, but you're sure willing to spout off like you know something... disgraceful.

  • @jokertim777

You make no sense. Why not simply raise their prices and lay off workers without the higher taxes? Your answer is typical of REPUG retoric. Squash the workers.

  • @vc50er,

I'm actually very pro-worker. The policies you advocate are the ones that are harmful to workers.

You've got a lot of work ahead of you if you want to be able to understand the world around you. Perhaps you should start by learning more economics... as that appears to be one of your weak areas. You might also try reading financial news sites to keep abreast of current conditions so you can avoid putting your foot in your mouth again. Best of luck... you'll need it.

  • @vc50er Massachusetts has 6.25% sales tax and maximum income tax of 5%. California has over 9% sales tax and upto 9% income tax (higher income earners). CA's corporate tax rate is a bit higher too. How are you figuring that "ca taxes are 1/2 of Massachusetts"? . Look up the Federation of Tax Adminstrators for proper values.

  • GO Jerry

  • @nextdrink45 are you high? He's been cutting down on government worker wasteful habits since day 1, moron! Also, gov don't spend on money on illegal aliens, apart from deporting them. Are you retarded? How did you even manage to even log-on to youtube... it's a miracle you were even able to, judging by the level of your IQ. lol.

  • @MrMono BOY, they'll let anyone on YT won't they you idiot!!! Yes, the government DOES spend A LOT of money on illegal aliens...........A LOT of our tax money!!!! Between schooling, medical care, welfare, etc. it is WELL REPORTED that this state spends in excess of $15 BILLION per year on services for illegal aliens!! Cutting from state workers...really?? He just signed off on an obscene contract for the prison guards!! Get your head out of Jerry Browns ass and come into the real world!

  • @nextdrink45 Besides, when I say cut from state workers, I'm talking about EVERY SINGLE STATE WORKER take a mere 2% pay cut. Do you realize how much money that would save the state??

Probably not judging by your last comment on how the state doesn't spend money on illegals. It's painfully obvious that you IQ level is even lower than mine....LOL!!

  • @nextdrink45 cite your sources for your bogus claim. at the moment, you just look like the town idiot.

  • @nextdrink45 What government money is spent on illegal immigrants?

  • @sybercat6 Are you for real?? This state spends a well reported $15 BILLION on services for illegals!! Between the schooling, medical care, welfare, etc. this state spends A LOT of money on illegals that is our tax money! Check the FAIR website for yourself.

  • @nextdrink45 If they are illegal, how do they get welfare? And wouldn't the last place an illegal immigrant want to be is in a hospital, around lots of government types?

  • Support the republicans who want to hold firm on no taxes. If we sent all initiatives to a vote of the people, one could ask: "Why do we even have a Legislature." Rules are rules and the Constitution states that there must be a two thirds vote for a reason. Governor Brown and all the tax and spend liberals need to stop complaining about some rules and then supporting others when it serves their political agenda. Please, all legislators, whether Republican or Democrat, vote no to tax extensions!

  • Once people understand that the state and national budgets can't be balanced through spending cuts alone we'll start making some progress. This delusion that spending cuts combined with reductions in levels of taxation can balance a budget is a fool's errand. Contrary to what most people believe, (and thanks to the republican party and its irresponsible and reckless policies), we have a HUGE revenue problem at both the state and national levels, and that won't be solved through cuts in spending.

  • We need to get rid of that two thirds majority requirement to pass a budget. It means that we never get a budget on time, and we never make real progress. And we need to keep our investment in education high, as money spent in education will be repaid in skilled workers--a boon to the economy, and to society as a whole.

  • We need to get rid of that two thirds majority requirement to pass a budget. It means that we never get a budget on time, and we never make real progress. And we need to keep our investment in education high, as money spent in education will be repaid in skilled workers--a boon to the economy, and to society as a whole.

  • Thank you, Gov Brown. I worked hard to elect you and I am rewarded by your strong efforts to MOVE THE INTRACTIBLE REPUBLICANS out of their recalcitrance and lethargy. They are a shameful lot!

  • @burtonfrb

It is funny how people can get bamboozled by the republicans. They haven't had a single solution to their own mess that they created. You would think the same idiots that created this deep recession would know the solutions on how to get out of it. Unfortunately for all of us, they are a bunch of idiots with no solutions. The only solution is to get rid of the only solution to the problem. Which is government. That is their best strategy. Small governemt = more control for them.

  • Not going to pass the budget on time as Californian's said no to Proposition 1A and I praise the republicans for standing behind that decision

  • Take that for all you Meg Whitman supporters, this is your Governor. Bam!

  • gr8 speech. i voted 4 u. i know u r kicked back but allusive? dang, thanx for not reading my letter or caring for what the "people's thoughts" are. start firing a bunch of our over populated legislature that'll be a good start. simple, then maybe u can listen to the people of California's needs!

  • Cut the damn spending and reduce taxes to a more reasonable level. NO "TEMPORARY" TAX EXTENSIONS - we're already taxed too much.

  • Gee Honjohn I didn't think you knew me well enough to call me names such as bitch kinda of silly don't you think. You are right illegal aliens have been a problem for many years maybe closing our boarders would work? By the way I'm 61 and still working and plan to for awhile since the last gov took 15% of my pay totalling a large chunk of my paycheck. And this go around we actually come to work one day a month for free; do you work one day a month for free? plz check your facts. TSQUIER

  • Dear Gov Brown: As a state employee of 25 yrs the last few yrs have really been tough on us. But I got through it; now I think it's time for some real action on the part of all Californians. That includes the legislature take away their pay if they don't agree on a budget. Also, you might want to take away the governing power that votes raises for the legislature. That includes their per diem & cars. As a state worker no one gives me xtra money for lunch or gas to fill my car! TSQUIER

  • Setup a state-run bank--see the public banking institute website. Tell wall-street to shove their austerity!

  • What is wrong with the Republican representatives? The descvisions you make effect we the people, have you forgotten that? You seem to love America, but hate Americans. Put the decision where it belongs, with we the people.

  • What is wrong with the Republician representatives? The descvisions you make effect we the people, have you forgotten that? You seem to love America, but hate Americans. Put the decision where it belongs, with we the people.

  • I think something like the budget is important and that the people of CA should decide on the matter. It is clear that the people who are supposed to represent us have forgotten that it is the people they serve not their self-interest

  • yea lower the gas back down to a buck a gal

  • Tire of the "tough decision" talks. How about generate revenue! Go Green and create jobs. Need a place to start? Make 30% of all state building solar/alternative. Legalize hemp for industrial use! Do something different! People cannot afford to live and the poor and elderly should not have to endure more cuts and set backs.

  • Comment removed

  • You have my support. Keep up the good fight.

  • Governor Brown,

With the new bi-partisan voting districts that are being created, we will soon have the ability to increase taxes without the small minority trying to ruin this great state. The problem is not high taxes but rather the voter's belief that we can have something for nothing. Many Californians do not pay a penny of taxes but expect first class services; from flawless infrastructure to a first class education. It is time for all Californians to fairly share the burden of taxation

  • You discourage me!!! The Govener "IS: TO GOVERN!!! Why dont you come up with a Budget & say THIS IS THE NEW BUDGET! Not my falt that Other Goverers, got us in this Mess. I Will try to Sue them for all I can! For them to make up their Debts!!! urning this Capitolest Office into a Communist Collecting office Needs to be changed too! I Will Report to all of the NEWS PAPERS What Our Anual Tax Collection is & What our Expensess are. For Advice from Citizens!

  • I would like Names-Place who they represent-and why they voted no- and full disclosure of payouts. Somebody has an alternate agenda to end the United States and give it to china. The Republicans are all voting that way because they are getting paid not for what they think. This goes back to Pat Brown and the scandals that emerged the last time. Frank Machado is one who is getting paid out Stockton California. Why not start there.

  • Nothing, I repeat, nothing will ever change unless "We" the people change it by electing a "Third" Independent party that will represent the people instead of the two political parties that have been "Ruling" us for over 235 plus years and if you were to investigate them you would find as I have that "Change" is not in their vocabulary.

Why mess up a money cow called "The People".

Check out the definition of "Independent" and see if you apply, if not then get ready to be shafted again.

    r

  • Perplexed?! What don't you understand? CA is one of the highest taxed states in the nation. CA has one of the most bloated government schemes in the nation. The public employee unions and welfare programs are sucking all the People's money. CA is one of the least friendly states for business in the nation, which forces current business out and makes sure new business doesn't come in. Taxes are never temporary! Republicans...not one inch!!! CUT, CUT, CUT the spending and the bureaucracy.

  • It's logical and simple. Stop the cuts and the assault to working folk. Tax the rich and end corp discussion on how to end social programs to the very poor.

  • "There is only one way to kill capitalism—by taxes, taxes, and more taxes."

    ~Karl Marx~

  • Well we all got together and Voted for Jerry Brown and all of us is getting laid off. Education is the key to everything! Why? Why? Why? Too many cuts, we only live once. Educator go to school for years to get laid off.

  • Gov. Brown is such a liar. He can do it with such a straight face. He has no honest and real plans to cut state employees outrageous benefit obligations that's causing most of this mess. State employees receive unbelievable benefits far beyond the private sector. Taxpayers must pay through the nose w/ our hard earned tax dollars. Gov. Brown is and has been in-bed w/ all the unions and nothing has changed. He talks a big game but it's all just words.

  • Jerry Brown is right. We have to balance the budget. He is offering a mix of tough cuts and temporary continuation of CURRENT TAX rates. Do you want the worst public schools in the nation? Do you want to throw seniors and disabled into the streets? do you want to close the state parks and beaches? If not, you better get on the case of your local state senator or state assemblyman. We have Sen. Sam Blakeslee and he needs to support this budget. Call or write him now.

  • It would be difficult to put it more simply than in this video by Mr. Brown. If

the voters are given a choice, I firmly believe that they will do what is best

for our state, and vote to extend the taxes as they are now.

  • @hipocampelofantocame Do you live under a rock?? According to the latest Public Policy Institute poll (which is the one that ALL the hacks including Brown follow) has this tax hike going down in defeat by over 60% of the people!!!

    52% of Democrats vote NO

    65% of Independents vote NO

    76% of Republicans vote NO

Sorry pal, but if this gets put on a ballot, it will LOSE just like Prop 1a did 2 years ago!!

  • The question with me is why can't the people decide on the tax extension. Either way at least the people will have helped in that decision. The democrats have to quit spending without being able to pay for their programs and the republicans have to quite saying no to every democratic solution. The republicans,if they can, should come up with an answer of their own to these problems.

  • Chopping the budget is one way, but California needs to be smart again. We need to lead the way as we once did. Vermont is moving ahead with Universal Health Care and will surpass California by creating a booming economy and solving their health care problems. California can cure the budget crisis by enacting the California Universal Health Care Act. Gov. S had the chance and blew it. Governor Brown, create a surplus budget, makes us the leader we once were and sign SB810. Thank you.

  • @lagunacarrie

    dreamer !!!!!!!!!

  • As usual, the republicans remain the party of NO. They would love to see our government crash and burn. But then, the Communists wanted us to crash and burn too. Whatever happened to Patriotism and love of country? Any person who says our government is the problem is working against it, not for it. The people are the government and if you are against the government, then you are against the people. Nothing is perfect, so get busy and fix it; don't destroy it.

  • @schreiberl That is so fucking stupid I dont know where to begin.

  • For every person who strikes, moans, groans and complains about: losing benefit packages, lack of pay increases, loss of enormous pensions etc..............there are 100 who are willing to do their job for less!

Increase the fine for utilizing a cell phone while driving to $1,000! This would do one of two things........increase the state budget or make people actually follow the law.

  • @greggrz1 I'd rather fine people for not yielding to emergency vehicles, or for not stopping behind the crosswalk. Huge fines like that just mean people with money will be able to do it, and the little, desperate people will go broke.

  • Please stop cutting education. It's bad enough in California as it is.

  • Please reinstate MediCal dental and eye care. My tooth is broken and I need glasses. Thank you.

  • @bevowen1 If you are a Veteran, get to the VA and they'll help you.

  • @Organics4Babies: Nowadays with computers, translation is easy and little would be saved in printing costs. Much money would be lost. It is in the best interest of California to produce multilingual literature. For example, we don't want foreigners disobeying driving laws because they couldn't read the handbook. BTW, I have traveled five continents, and have rarely had trouble finding help in English. In fact, in Thailand, all the street signs were posted in the Thai alphabet as well as ours.

  • I'd sure like to see you START making corporations pay their FAIR SHARE & STOP hurting people like ME (disabled!) by cutting our LIFELINE (this isn't hyperbole! EVERY cut you make to MY resources is 1 step closer to putting ME on the street!) My ability to survive has been DEVASTATED by the GOP's refusal to tax luxury items like BOATS & JEWELRY while continuing to gut MY services that I PAID INTO WHEN A FULLY EMPLOYED PROFESSIONAL!!!! It's more than maddening!

  • @caisis2 >yeppers! take something from nothing heads us a lot closer to zero than taking something or less than zero (- #, - 0, - 1, - eat, - home, - etc...); take something from something chances are something's gonna be left = +. it's so simple stupid, (= government).

  • Gov Brown wants the people to decide these things. The GOP legislators oppose the people's right to make their own decisions. Again the party of "NO". Yet the GOP denounces courts and government agencies and committees as being "activist" when those entities make rulings or decisons. So who is behind GOP decisions? It isn't "We The People" as they oppose a vote by the people. It isn't the courts. It isn't government agencies. They need to be impeached or recalled. Period.

  • Why does government have to be broken? This isn't MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • it's a shame the Legislature can't do what is right and raise the taxes themselves. Thought that is what we elected them to do - Govern CA!

  • @MrGregPettis I didn't elect them to STEAL more of MY money!!!

  • If they would eliminate all paperwork, books throught the state to English only, how much money would they save? When we travel to other countries do they change their language to accommodate us? No, we need to accommodate the American's.

  • Keep up with the good fight.

  • Let the people vote!!

  • @derfilmmacher YEAH............let the people vote NO just like Prop 1a mere 2 years ago!!!

  • Prisons and pensions are a huge drain on the state. Legalize and tax cannabis and let nonviolent criminals from the failed war on drugs out. You must reign in the prison unions. I wish you had more cooperation from the other side of the aisle... you've got my support -I've met you in person when you were mayor of Oakland

  • Kick their asses Jerry! Remember that firemen and police are not heroes they get paid well and where the state kicks in for those lavish retirements let's cut it back to what the rest of us get - really who expects full salary after retirement?

We can make some real cuts in public education too. All children aren't special lets get real and dump the slogans! A 75% cut in all education management. Teachers have more managers than any other professions. Lets cut the BS so they can teach.

  • Sounds good but we need a paradigm shift in our legislature.

  • Fight on. We approve of what you are doing. Fernando & Colleen Vescia

  • Tax the rich, legalize, and tax, cannabis, and give more money to education, police and firefighters.

  • The trouble with you, Jerry Brown, is you make too much sense!

  • I don't like taxes and I don't like these huge cuts to necessary things like city money that goes to maintain transportation. Let's face it - the state is in deep trouble and we've got to do some painful things. So I'm ready to do my part - delay repair on my road? okay. And I'll pay higher taxes (I'd rather pay $1 now than take out a bond and have my kid pay $20 in 20 years).

I've voted both rebublican and democrat - and I think politicians sticking to ideology right now are irresponsible.
