I have heard many good things about Iceland, but I have also heard that the inhabitants are more racist than Americans. Having never been to Iceland, I would have to wonder what the ethnic diversity is there, and do they suffer the same racial tensions as other industrialized countries? On another issue, will Thom and Louise meet Bjork Guddmanstoddter?

Ive never been to iceland either. but no. there arent many people at all and its in the middle of nowhere. so therefore not many foreigners. but without having scientific proof they are a bit more racist than other europeans, but not really. I guess because of geographic isolation. the few i know tend to be very funny people with a serious drinking problem. but i guess that is because its dark for half a year while the sun is shining for the other half...

@seabazzz Thank you! I understand what you are saying, but the icelandic bloodline is essentially undiluted, and that is why many genetics test are run based on the citizenry. Iceland, at one time, had one of the highest standards of living of ay nation. That beggars the question as to why more people do not migrate to Iceland. Are there many blacks or hispanics in Iceland, and if not, why not? Is it because of racially or culturally restrictive immigration policies?

not many people=not much industry=not many jobs available+a language non-scandinavians cant easily learn+weather conditions arent inviting for blacks or hispanics or even other europeans.

I guess you could sum that up as "culturally restrictive". its just harder to find your place in a small group of people. no place for subcultures etc. dont know about their immigration policies though. racism is the wrong word imho. maybe harder to fit in.

@seabazzz Perhaps I should have said "culturally restrictive", but the point is that it is harder to get into Iceland, than the USA, and it is that way for other nations who share a higher standard of living than the USA. While the US and like nations were creating a slave class, only to mask the practice as cultural and ethnic diversity, some prosperous nations are not held to the same moral standards as the US. Some countries are not required to be culturally diverse. Thanks!

I think this is too easy. there is no direct link between immigration and prosperity. here in germany we celebrated that this month the population was rising again, because of so many immigrants. its rather about how you treat your immigrants and what kind of chances you provide for them. we had the "turk-problem" because we send them into ghettos and didnt make them learn german 40 yrs ago. 2nd and 3rd generations are doing better know but its still not perfect.

"culturally restrictive" is even appreciated by many immigrants, because they come to a different country for a reason. they like it and the culture! they just want to be part of it. racism keeps them from taking part. asking them to behave according to the rules doesnt.

not immigration is the problem but how you deal with it. you have to offer chances for everybody and that is the problem in the us imho. no upwards mobility and segregation of ethnics.

However, one has to ask why do Jews have disproportionatly more wealth, power and influence in the Western world when they only comprise a small minority of the population?
