@greystep12 did you try sdlBasic or python-pygame? freebasic is also great - it's awesome being able to code stuff you can run on more than just one operating system, and having your code being seen from an wider audience

Hey I have a question. Me and my teacher designed a computer game design class and all 5 students participating have no history in programming (except Web Design). We started off using Scratch, then Game Maker, then Inform 7 text based games. Is this a good strategy in introducing programming? I got it right off the bat and we are now transitioning in to Darkbasic, but the other students are struggling still. Do you think those programs are good for introducing programming languages?

When I first start studying programming languages, my school used ALICE first. Before that, they used C++, and most of the students failed; instead with ALICE, there was a higher percentage of students graduating with a programming degree. I know that ALICE is stupid, but the idea of using graphics/drag and drop and etc, helped a lot of people. I think that starting off with DarkBasic and Alice would be great before going into Visual Basic, Java, C++ and etc is a great idea.

Hello World just shows you can get text onto a program. Dark Basic, personally I think you should learn the basics but eventually move on to C++.

Okay uh do you have directx 9 c installed (i think). you should have that installed. And yeah, you're running the trial, just compile the exe but don't debug, otherwise it won't work.

that happened to me too.uninstall and reinstall dark basic in a folder other than program files. i dont know y it works like that but it worked for me.

yeah i know my school is also crap I had only one day the whole year for 3d modeling and we used blender and i asked the teacher about maya which i have at home ( i also asked him about milkshape ) amd he did not know anything about both. Talk about experience

my schools computer class is finally starting dark basic classes and so far all i have learned is stuff like REM statements and coding structures and organization patterns.

but i dont think i know enough to make a game i'll have to wait a couple months until they teach me more.

i no you put this up ages ago, but it's probably not wrong, if you work in a team and someone is working on some of your code you have made, it is communicating to your team so that they understand what parts of your code mean.

Pressing F5 automatically creates an EXE at the projects folder.

Do you know how to detect collisions? Cuz I have a program I have to do in school and you need to turn a sphere red when you collide with every cube. The cube gets a clock texture when you collide. I used an array to store the values so when you hit a cube the array collide(0) becomes collide(1). I just cant figure out how to turn the sphere red! I've tried almost everything!

To be honest, you don't. At least probobly not like your thinking. You can make basic games, text games and so forth, but don't expect to make final fantasy any time soon. The big problem with games like that is media. you need 3d images, and most of us aren't 3d artists. All games are based on what's called a loop. If I stop being lazy, I'll make another tut to cover that.
