I couldn't agree more IcarusFilmsNY! Properly accounting for the Franco-American background of Kerouac is essential for understanding his work (paricularly "Visions of Gerard" and "Vanity of Duluoz" but other works as well), but French North Americans are very little known much less understood by those outside of this sub-culture. Most Americans are not even aware that there is a large French-Canadian diaspora in New England. They are a great unknown factor in the American multicultural fabric.
