I agree in part with what you say... americans (also Japanese) like to take existing technology and make very good use of it and create really imaginative work. However, most great Scientists tend to come from Europe, especially Germany/Greece/Italy/France and the UK. Feynman is possibly Americas greatest example in my opinion. I agree in part with what you say... americans (also Japanese) like to take existing technology and make very good use of it and create really imaginative work. However, most great Scientists tend to come from Europe, especially Germany/Greece/Italy/France and the UK. Feynman is possibly Americas greatest example in my opinion. Newton, Darwin, Einstein, Dirac, Bohr, Galileo, DaVinci, Pythagoras, Copernicus, Plato, Hume...the list is endless...All European, all original thinkers.

I was just thinking about the modern technologies, listing them off in my head, wondering who made the greatest thing last? I had the transistor/microchip stuck in my head. It was all tech created/industrialized fairly modernly, and since the US was established, We've had a greater concentration of great minds, mostly due to the economy we used to have, freeing more up for "thinking work". We have a short history, and none of the excess now, but we got a lot done when we did.

I don't know why but when I look at his face and listen to his voice, I can't get out the picture of Robin Williams.

Well, the interviewer did bring it up, but in the 'Horizon' tradition of the time (1980s) the interviewers questions were left out of the film...

Thanks for the insight, Chris...actually I'm inspired by Mr. Feynman's humility and the childlike wonder he possesed. I fear the good intentions of Mr. Nobel have been more burdensome than not. Gore will find this out, I think.
