  • thanks so much this was really helpful :) you have a beautiful accent by the way, I'm jealous xx

  • i can never hear you in your vids, speak up hun!

  • Does anyone know the name of the song playing in the background?

  • i love this tutorial.

u r really good at doing these makeup art tutorials:)

  • Do you proffesionaly do makeup for people! :D You should do makeup for movies!!! You would be AMAZING!

  • now i have to look for meow23's comment -.-

  • @TheMiros26 i know right lol

  • erm actually it's been proven tht moisturising helps ppl with oily skin

if u give the skin the moisture it needs, it'll stop producing oil

    common sense...

  • Luving the background music. Who's playing please .... Great tutorial :)

  • You're so pretty!

  • i like japaness bunka!!!

  • omg! i just did a painting of a giesha that looks just like this!

  • i'm an american, i think Asian women have such pretty hair, they're beautiful in their own way

  • Why do people think that the geisha are prostitutes? They are not. They are entertainers whose skills include performing various arts such as Japanese classical music and dance.

  • @risingstar808 because it sounds fishy when you have nothing to compare it too. Also, Japanese prostitutes sometimes tried to copy geisha fashions...ive heard japanese people who think its not a good profession and also koreanswho feel that way about the korean version. it can get sketchy...

  • You look SO much like Lillian Gish. SO SO MUCH. If you don't know who that is, look her up on Google Images. You'll be shocked at how much you look like her.

  • I LOVE that you tried to do a very true geisha look. I love the artistic renditions of it, but I feel like the traditional makeup is such a beautiful art in itself.

  • You have the PERFECT lips for this look. Just sayin

  • I adore your kimono, but it bothers me because it has the tell tale hints of being a fake kimono

  • new subbie amazing work doll

  • it's beautiful, but why this shap in the back? why not all in white?

  • @1neige2 its traditional for gieshas to do that shape

  • @1neige2 If you pay really close attention to the geisha in Tokyo, you'll notice that they completely cover the back of their necks, but the geiko and maiko in Kyoto have the shape to keep the makeup out of the hairline, as well as to accentuate the beauty (not sexual aspect) of the long neck. :)

  • what kind of eyeliner did you use? i can't use liquid because im allercic :(

  • You have a long neck.

  • why do you need to get the double v shape at the back?

  • @MsNetherlandsMona I'm guessing it's because traditional geisha makeup does it too, I THINK it is a symbol that the geisha is still human underneath.

  • @jinmunsuen thanks. i don't really know Japanese

  • i dont know why but if i want a make up tutorial, id rather choose you than the others becuz you say it more detailed......

  • you use too much light :/

  • amazing! you actually did the fine details :) so good!

  • Beautiful! :)

  • You are very pretty!

  • OHMAIGAWD!!! You are the first person to do traditional style maiko makeup! This is exactly what I needed! :)

  • @btrmurandalover24 OH MY GOD THAT WOULD BE SO AMAZING AND AWESOME!

  • Could you do a skin care video?

  • WHERE. DID. YOU. GET. THE. CLOTHES. AND. THE. UMBRELLA.

    I NEEEEEEEED XD

BTW, really nice make-up and hairstyle. YOU SERIOUSLY LOOKED LIKE A GEISHA!

  • Hey, Klaire!!!! Really awsome look, and I have a request. Have you ever watched 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'? (If you haven't, I reccommend it!!) BUT, I think you should do a series on the girls. Such as: Katara, Toph, Azula, Mai, etc. I know I would enjoy it, and maybe some of your subbies would, too!!! :)

  • Gorgeous! :D

  • stop saying stupid things, that if it's American or not, just being taught how to do things-_-stupid people

  • This is a great video. I think you really have the geisha makeup down perfectly!

  • amazing ,wonderful!

  • Where would you go about getting white foundation? Just a Halloween kit or something?

  • That's the most acurate geisha makeup tutorial i've seen so far! You must be proud!

  • lol i don't need white fondation because i guess i'm already pale enougth :P

  • This is really amazing xxx

  • Hey, I really love this tutorial... I have to do a presentation in school about geishas and i was wondering... coul you please please tell me where you got that kimono from?

    xxx

  • Brilliant tutorial. This is one of the only Geiko makeup tutorial I've seen that actually demonstrates the traditional style rather than a modern interpretation.

The way you did your hair is much closer to the Geiko style than I've seen in other tutorials. Could you please link to the hair tutorial you used to achieve this look? Or could you make a hair tutorial so we can replicate what you did in this video? Pretty please?

  • love da idea!!

  • This helps cuz I'm doing a school project on japan but id love to know how you did your hair too

  • @meow23 I think you'll find she is British.

  • @meow23 Wow, racist much? And she's not even American. I don't understand why you posted this.

  • @meow23 Lol for an American I have rather an unusual accent haha

  • @KlairedelysArt ahah some people seem to think the only english speaking country in the world is the usa and forget that "english" came from....well what would you know, "England" maybe? xD

    (proud South African btw <3)

  • @meow23 Most Americans feel that Japanese women will never be as beautiful as American women. So this is not a one sided thing. I tend to not give a crap, but that was extremely rude of you, EVERYONE is equally beautiful, INCLUDING americans.

  • @meow23 she's not American... And your comment is not necessary...

  • I Keep Thinking To Myself Everytime I Watch On Of Klaire's Videos.. She Has Made 170 Videos, Right? I Keep Saying To Myself.. By Jaysus.. She Must Have Alot Of Spare Time On Her Hands :)

  • im a girl in japan.

im really surprised to watch this movie

because you look like real maiko very much.

    i love it !

  • Do you do your own hair?

  • close enough. So far you are the only one who at least pay attention to details. Some people think painting the face white and put red here and there on a face is Geisha/Maiko make up. So ignorant.

But I love the fact that you are respectful to the real Geisha and Maikos and I love you. You are the BEST.

  • Anyone know the song? I absolutely loved it

  • Geisha are so Amazing. Love the vid

  • Really nice

  • nice job

  • nice jope

  • I love how detailed you work...

really gread keep it like this.♥

  • A makeover that I would love to see u do is a Taylor swift of some sort. Otherwise I love ur videos!!! Never stop!

  • Did you use mascara? You didn't in the video but Idk if you did before you started recording.

  • @Nuuyu No I didn't use any mascara :)

  • But ? When u painted ur neck u didnt color hole neck (back) why?

  • @MusicKizka Real geishas do that design. it's a sign of status.

  • Comment removed

  • @MusicKizka geishas have kind of a pattern of colour on the back (:

  • Comment removed

  • @MusicKizka It's the equivalent of showing cleavage in Japanese society. (Atleast back in the old days when geisha and maiko were more common than today).

  • You're quite amazing... Great talent and very nice explanations. I hope to see more from you ^^

  • You should do Yuna from Final Fantasy X. Please! I think that you could do such a good job!

  • U are beautifull

  • your kimono is absolutly beautiful!! it matches your eyes very well! where did you get it?

  • @XxrandomdooderxX I adore her kimono too! I think I may have found the same one on ebay, beautiful, affordable and different colours to choose from! =)

  • i want your nose x

  • Just a question, why is it on the back they put the white foundation in that shape? Why not cover the whole area?

  • @tamakifan i was reading and apparently they did that the give the illusion of wearing a mask

  • @tamakifan It was left like this to accentuate the "erotic side" of the Geisha.

  • @tamakifan For japanese persons, neck is really...erotic. And they paint "three legs" on it.

  • @tamakifan The foundation is applied on the back of the neck in that style because it is deemed to be aesthetically pleasing and it is applied so low because Maiko and Geisha style the neck/collar of their kimonos lower than is worn by other japanese. women! Long answer hope this helps!!

  • @tamakifan

I was thinking so the white doesn't get in thier hair line, but it might be something more interesting then that lol.

  • @tamakifan has something to do with the cut of the dress

  • @tamakifan It's to highlight the beauty of the back of the neck...

  • @x5n4p3 no, it's explained in Memoirs of a Geisha, but it's like showing your wrist or your ankle, it had a mysterious seductive feel towards people.

  • @tamakifan because maikos wanted to look beautiful for mans, and mans used to find pretty exciting to see a little piece of the skins without no make up (:

  • @tamakifan The japanese considered the back of the neck to be a very erotic/sexy/vulnerable part of the female body (just like the wrists too) so they used the W shape to enfasize that area and dra attention to it's delicateness. Another detail in maiko/geisha makeup is that they didn't blend the white base into the hairline or ears, so that the makeup would actually look like a mask :)

  • Comment removed

  • @tamakifan it gives the illusion of a mask. U can learn a bit more on wikipedia.

  • @tamakifan Because the nape is a sensual part of the body. Leaving the 2/3 "prongs" of flesh provide clients with a little peek as to what's under the white mask.

  • @tamakifan Oh wow, so much replies. Thanks guys I think I understand now. No need for the continuous replies. ^^;

  • @tamakifan the reason there is that design is that the back of the neck was considered really attractive to men in china. Having the back of the neck un-covered was like a little secret between the geisha and the man. Or you can think of it like cleavage to men in the western world.

  • @hmulli I think you mean Japan lol ;-)

  • @tamakifan because it needs to reminds the minora and majora labia of a woman in that way men could turn on without undressing the girl, let's say that it would be the only "nude skin part" they will be able to see of the geisha

  • @akiraminou actually the way the makeup is done is NOT to show any sexual side of the girls at all. It's been thought that their makeup and hairstyles are set that way for that reason but it's not. A longer neck is considered beautiful (not merely as sexy but plain and simply beautiful like crooked teeth are cute) thus they create the two lines (and three during formal events) to make their necks look longer. They want to be as beautiful as possible. Don't watch Memoirs, read books.

  • @akiraminou I'm not saying that Memoirs of a Geisha is a bad book to read or movie to watch, but it is NOTHING but fiction. They took a prostitute and made her LOOK like a geisha. (I wish they had a bold option on here >.<) Nine times out of ten, a maiko or geiko will be completely and utterly single. They have no need for the money (they make more than enough) and they DON'T have the spare time at all. It's all spent in practices, oozashiki, at home in the okiya, or at performances.

  • @tamakifan Because a lot of Geishas actually have a gap of make up in the back of their wigs.

  • your so pretty! :D

  • Thats very tiny and simple!!! Amazing that you got such an effect with that little eye Makeup!!!!

  • that kimono is super cute! my obaachan gave me one that is light blue with silver trim and a navy blue bow thing. :P I don't even know what the different parts are called. I need to get more japanese culture in my life haha. but it's amazing how expensive kimonos can be!

  • すごい

  • The light is so bad

  • This is something I'll definitely try out for my halloween party!! thank you very very much it is a beautiful make up, and it respects its origins very well :)

  • why is the back of the neck not fully covered..................? it looks weird if it isnt one color

  • @coinchan She's doing a more traditional look and in traditional geisha makeup the back of the neck is exposed like that, the reason for this is to accentuate this traditionally erotic area, and a line of bare skin around the hairline, which creates the illusion of a mask. :)

  • @NyteSkye isn't it funny how back then an obvious mask of makeup was considered attractive but now we all like to look nice and natural? same in the US too. maybe not necessarily a mask but heavy makeup was the thing.

  • @ayummykay The makeup of the Geisha will change depending on her experience. During the apprenticeship she's heavily "painted".

  • @coinchan at the end she said you could ask someone to help you with that part so you could cover it entirely :P

  • @coinchan I'm sorry for my last response, I hadn't seen the last part of the video when I wrote it :$ You're right, it does look strange with the back of the neck not fully covered :S

  • Love this! I had the pleasure of being made into a Geiko whilst visiting Japan last year - its amazing how quick they transform you :)..brings back great memories :) x

  • this was so inspiring to watch... i loved the part when you were doing your back. the shape was just beautiful and so eccentric. the full look all together just.. agh... you amaze me girl. :) congrats on your nomination!

  • can you pls do a hair tutorial for this?

  • Amazing! You are so pretty normally but you look extra adorable as a Geisha.

  • Oh I am so happy to see an make-up artist that actually did some research on maiko's make-up. <3

Usually I get goosebumps while watching "geisha"-make-up tutorials and when you uploaded this video I was initially like "Oh no, now she did it, too."

You definitely surprised me in a very positive way (^.^)

Btw. The "wareshinobu" you tried with your hair probably will never work out perfectly without help and the use of camellia oil and wax. After all Maiko don't dress their hair themselves, too.

  • You're really pretty and I love your accent.

  • omg

  • GORGEOUS!

  • You look beautiful!!

  • This makes me want to go watch Memoirs of a Geisha! Great tutorial, love it so much!

  • WOW you look like a doll in the mirror, DAMN, youre so gorgeus!! <3

  • @bajubner cool, i didnt know that :)

  • beautiful just wish i could wear this out and about! xx

  • I love it! I would like to see the hair tutorial! This is lovely! ♥

  • ahw.. but I would still love to see a hair tutorial for this.. T_T

  • beautiful! ^_^

  • can anybody tell me whats about this shape thing in the back? is it beause of a tradition or something completely different? i'm so confused .__. help please :D

  • @BeingVerena tradition, you can google geisha-wikipedia, its because they made a W shape on the neck, to emphasize this "erotic" area, or at least wikipedia says so.

  • I was just wondering if your give away has ended yet? :) If not, when is it drawn and will you announce it on youtube or just on your blog? :)

  • Hair tutorial for this look please?

  • what do those marks on the back of the neck symbolize?

  • I loved the tutorial. It is beautiful. I love the makeup.:)

  • Hey Klaire! first of all, that was very cool, and it looked fantastic. Second, I just saw a video of prince poppycock(?) singing queen's bohemian rhapsody, and you should do a make-up totorial for his make-up cause it was crazy! =}

  • The Light ist very bright >.<

  • Congrats on the whole cosmopolitan thing!! I just voted for you :)

  • very beautiful!

  • It's been a while since I've heard this soundtrack. c:

  • cool

  • I would like to be a sponsor of you next giveaway. If u are interested, send me a message :) prize=speed drawing ;)(it normally costs 100$)

  • love the hair!

  • Thank you for this! There are very few authentic-looking tutorials on the makeup of Maiko and Geiko! <3 I love geisha, and I find it irritating when I see 'geisha girl' tutorials on the internet, which are not accurate, and are slightly offensive. I love how you've paid attention to detail, like the stripes on the back of your neck :)

  • Dear Klaire, You are a very talented makeup artist. I was wondering if you could possibly do a DIY tutorial? I also have a friend recommendation. Her channel is at fumsmusings. She is also from the UK. You should check out her videos. She is absolutely amazing. Please reply:)

  • u could use a lil blush >__< just saying... love the tutorial, u look really lovely :D

  • Where did you get the white foundation?

  • This is simply amazing ^ ^.

A Very Divine and elegant look. It suits you very well Klaire.

Especially with your natural stunning beauty

  • This is one of the better Geisha tutorials I have seen because Geisha are supposed to be very SIMPLE and people LOVE to over work them. Great job as usual!

  • @GabbyBernedo The reason for the "stripe" on the back of the neck is basically to represent the class of the geisha/maiko. When there is a 'U' curve on the back of her neck, it means she's a maiko, a beginner entertainer. But when she has a 'W' formation, it means she has had her mizuage and is now a geisha, a higher class performer and she is going to graduate from her househould to become a woman and get married.

Sorry if my history's a little off/wrong. It's been a while. Hope that helps.

  • Brilliant video, but be careful with the "back of the neck" because there is a very specific meaning to the W on the neck... contact me privately..

  • So lovely... and so perfect... If you woud walk around in japan i think everybody woud think your a realy geisha...

  • Awesome ! I just planned to do this make up for my school party, where did you get this amazing kimono :D ?

  • too much light... i can't see properly .

  • So talented

  • w o w... all I can say is SUGOI!!!!! this vid is truly amazing!! Great job!!

  • Sorry to be a pain, I know you've answered this already about the colour of the foundation, but it really is confusing, I went to the site you linked, and they have so many different name, one is called TV White, then there's 1W 2W 3W, (which I assume stand for different hues of white?) so just wanted to know which one you picked? Thanks!

  • you have a really good talent!!!

  • LARA CROFT HALLOWEEN TUTORIAL. the chick from tomb raider. thumbsup so she can see please?

  • @GabbyBernedo she did that because the geishas actually wear these stripes, and it's considered a very delicate form of sensuality.

  • WAIT.....what if your really tan? Willthis work good still?

  • @2580Melody Of course it wold :) If anything it makes the shape on the back look even better because of the contrast :)

  • @KlairedelysArt I'm also really Tan. I used to be tan-yellowish, but now i can't go back to my original colour.

Could you make some tutorials for tan skins???

  • @KlairedelysArt helooo:) im 10,my mom has one of thoses kimnos she got it from someone we know that went to china or japan one and got 2 of them.one for my mom and one for my aunt.he said they costed 800$ per one. my mom still has hers at my house*i live with mamaw* and so i keep it hanging in my closet

  • Beautiful look Klaire and sidenote... you have an absolutely beautiful neckline

    xo Michele

  • Next tutorial: how to look and talk like klaire:) thumbs up if that's the one you want next!

  • @emmarulez465 AGREE!!! :)
