Randall Joe Cobb on bass, this vid does not do anyone any justice. Check out Edgar Winter's White Trash "Roadwork" release... that's where these guys shine.
WOW, someone has a 12 year old daughter that can play better than Johnny WInter! Seriously, this is not there best take on the song. I am sure it was a request by one of the attendees of this impromtu session. Some of the other songs from this session really show the Johnny for the incredible talent that he is.
@BigChuck500 come on u idiot they were just playing aroung - cany u tell the diff between playing aroung and a stage preformance - I 've heard Gilmour sound like a 12th grader and he's one of the best in the world. Johnny was just fooling around - not really trying or u would see why he is also one of the best along with Gilmour
id catch a grenade for you. but you wont do the same. an advanced plot and someone in gasoline looking for his brother and pipers vipers- screwed up windshield wipers who wanted to be the last one standing on an organ-or playing an organ-not for fun or or out of distrust- but just to be mean or fly around the fucked up world. the word was strike (as in gas strike) NOT magnetize or rewrite.
Bassplayer is to loaded and in the wrong key. Or the guy who posted was trying to play along or something. However, I don't think so because they would have been better and not as nearly as loaded as those guys.
This is seriously good. A ton of J Winter trademark licks/sound. Why in the heck are people talking about tuning etc. Tune it out & listen to Johnny. Great Derringer song too.
wished I could play guitar like that half blind and all. Jeff Healy. just another one of the greats. Best of all comes from inside which each and every one of these do have and will never loose.
Saw him do this with Rick D. in 1971 at the "Boston Tea Party". He had several Fender amps hooked up in series; loudest feckin' concert I ever attended!
amazing how he steps up the whole time and when you think the limit is reached he just keep pushing it !!! I am totally speechless every time he pulls his amazing riffs! LONG LIVE THE WHITE LIGHTNING !
The guy who wrote this song as well as Still Alive And Well, Cheap Tequila among others and who has produced for both Johnny and Edgar was indeed Rick Derringer who has been described on here as 'one of those McCoy fools!' I was wary when the 'marriage' was made as everybody was but Johnny's career benefited greatly from the input that Rick Derringer in particular made to the band known as Johnny Winter And.
I wish johnny never hooked up with those macoy fools, should have stuck with the orginal line up! this is the only good song that came out of the AND days i reckon
@CAJman01 you are a rock star in my book !!! who else would be on this site unless you luv great rock !!!! GOD BLESS !!! there are no losers here-only good people who luv great rock !!!
@sirwob That's the funniest thing ever, blues can be whatever a good musician can make it, smooth or raw, intricate or simple. Also this song was written by Rick Derringer and originally recorded by Johnny Winter in 1970, Derringer recorded his solo version in 1974. So I'm not seeing how it's a cover.
@elgrovez13 my mistake, I looked it up, I always assumed it was Winter's because I heard his first, but I still prefer my blues raw i.e., Robert Johnson,Willie Dixon.....don't care for Clapton, great guitarist but too polished for my taste, I'm more into like Duane Allman nasty blues guitar
I think his 2 best "mainstream" albums are "Johnny Winter and" (prodigal son, out on a limb were on that one. And then Second Winter. He explains it has a blank fourth side on the LP cause they needed so much room for the other songs because they were meant to be played LOUD!
Back in the day, Detroit Tube Works showed some awesome footage of great bands. It was on some local UHF channel and we used to watch it in a smoke filled haze. Thankfully some of it turned up on YouTube.
The best guitar work from J.W. is on the song nothing left, wich is my favorit song by the man. Another very good and amusing song of his is called " out on a limb". When I think of Johnny Winter, I think of these two songs. they're both great.....
Hey everyone, I recently posted a video of a friend of mine that passed away in a motorcycle accident not too long ago, Hes shredding on the electric guitar while another one of my friend is playing the chords to wagon wheel on acoustic guitar, the one playing electric was truly blessed cause him playing the guitar is incredible it blows my mind, you guys should check him out just search "wagon wheel cover electric/acoustic guitar" i promise you guys wont be sorry, thanks guys i appreciate it!

Nice to see Johhny again, last saw him at the MAGIC MUSHOOM in Houston, 1968, sang alot of Stones songs, especially satisfaction, great that night. Simply blues great, lost sight of him after that, but not his brother.

Clarifications - Yeah, it's Johnny Winter out of Beaumont, Texas. I've seen him many times and just about every great blues player (having grown up in Austin, Tx.) and believe me, Johnny can play circles around most. Just about every blues player has added some of his licks to their bag. One thing- the album "STill ALive and Well" was named that because he had just overcome a bad 2 year heroin addiction, not because of the "albino /crossroads" myth. He has a biography coming out soon. RockonJW!

Great version of a classic Rick Derringer tune. Another great live version is off Edgar Winter's Roadwork album. Johnny also covers Rick's Still Alive and Well.

Claifications - Yeah, it's Johnny Winter out of Beaumont, Texas. I've seen him mant timesand just about every great blues player (having grown up in Austin, Tx.) and believe me, Johhny can play circles around most.
