  • High as a kite....

  • there's a better explanation to them being out of tune. maybe wrong framerate of the video

  • he's the very best

  • Johnny plays with Groove and Soul. Fantastic Vid.

  • somebody's high... lol share?

  • mind blowingly good

  • Amazing~ Always have loved Johnny~ I learned my first lyrics playing his records over and over again~ Yeah Buddy~ still playing them~ Ha!

  • 123-Yeah!

  • 'I'm too high to count it down...somebody else do it...'

  • 72 pages of comments... WOW!

  • Randall Joe Cobb on bass, this vid does not do anyone any justice. Check out Edgar Winter's White Trash "Roadwork" release... that's where these guys shine.

  •

    coutant.org/635a/635a.mp3

  • its devastatingly good

  • 12 year old prodigy eh?...stupid fool...can't understand soul and talent .....only mechanics..keep playin' your ipod

  • WOW, someone has a 12 year old daughter that can play better than Johnny WInter! Seriously, this is not there best take on the song. I am sure it was a request by one of the attendees of this impromtu session. Some of the other songs from this session really show the Johnny for the incredible talent that he is.

  • I fail to hear the out-of-tuneness

  • Sounded like ass. My 12 y/o daughter plays better than both those fools.

  • @BigChuck500 HA then ur 12 yr old daughter is one of the greatest guitarists of all time

  • @BigChuck500 come on u idiot they were just playing aroung - cany u tell the diff between playing aroung and a stage preformance - I 've heard Gilmour sound like a 12th grader and he's one of the best in the world. Johnny was just fooling around - not really trying or u would see why he is also one of the best along with Gilmour

  • id catch a grenade for you. but you wont do the same. an advanced plot and someone in gasoline looking for his brother and pipers vipers- screwed up windshield wipers who wanted to be the last one standing on an organ-or playing an organ-not for fun or or out of distrust- but just to be mean or fly around the fucked up world. the word was strike (as in gas strike) NOT magnetize or rewrite.

  • @egurzi put the crack pipe down, you stupid shit!!

  • Both outta tune but great shit in any key. Or out of it. Yeeeehah!

  • This is one of my favorite pieces of music i have ever heard. Most underrated rock guitar player and singer of all time.

  • @stinkvag deff underated guitar player but i don't know about singer lol

  • Bassplayer is to loaded and in the wrong key. Or the guy who posted was trying to play along or something. However, I don't think so because they would have been better and not as nearly as loaded as those guys.

  • Im better than the bassist that jammed with Johnnie... kill me now.

  • That has got to be the best brand of thumb pick ever. I'll wonder what it is forever. He said, "But you were in A!" to the bassist.

  • cool

  • Yeah, I know they are wrecked, but this "backstage" footage is still a treat.

  • The real bass player must be on break.

  • This is seriously good. A ton of J Winter trademark licks/sound. Why in the heck are people talking about tuning etc. Tune it out & listen to Johnny. Great Derringer song too.

  • Two albino brothers, Johnny and Edgar Winters, saw at Crabshaw Corners in Sacramento, their psychos. and nasty.

  • This version is ancient and sounds like a dud. crapolla video.

  • the bass E string IS tuned WAY flat.

There's no excuse for that. If you're too stoned to hear how flat your

instrument is, he shouldn't be on stage.

His playing isn't too bad but jeez, tune the fuck up

  • @chilitoday so let's go chili. what is your .....? fuck you, lets fight. or should i say I am kicking your ass. Detroit.

  • bass not out of tune ...just off key....

  • man the raw sound of his play'in that firebird is GREAT!...allways loved this clip

  • Randy Jo n Johnny!!!!!!! that tone and feel; an irreplaceable clip;

  • vocals are great!! but off key

such a good video ruined by drugs and offtuned instruments. I couldn't listen 'til the end. my ears hurt.

  • wished I could play guitar like that half blind and all. Jeff Healy. just another one of the greats. Best of all comes from inside which each and every one of these do have and will never loose.

  • Damn da bass man...you have to know...SETX man...bayou blues... ya can mell it!...shroomcseet!

  • he is a bad man effortless so natural

  • Saw him do this with Rick D. in 1971 at the "Boston Tea Party". He had several Fender amps hooked up in series; loudest feckin' concert I ever attended!

  • Me think he had a doobie before they filmed this.:)

  • he was so stoned :)

  • the bass player had a friend in a sound man that night. Jonny still blew the house down with his technique!~ aright!

  • 2:14 - 2:43 is soooo retarded..... thats shot has the bass in the way, and you cant even see the playing, stoops

  • amazing how he steps up the whole time and when you think the limit is reached he just keep pushing it !!! I am totally speechless every time he pulls his amazing riffs! LONG LIVE THE WHITE LIGHTNING !

  • The guy who wrote this song as well as Still Alive And Well, Cheap Tequila among others and who has produced for both Johnny and Edgar was indeed Rick Derringer who has been described on here as 'one of those McCoy fools!' I was wary when the 'marriage' was made as everybody was but Johnny's career benefited greatly from the input that Rick Derringer in particular made to the band known as Johnny Winter And.

  • I wish johnny never hooked up with those macoy fools, should have stuck with the orginal line up! this is the only good song that came out of the AND days i reckon

  • even though the bass is out of tune it's sounds fucking good

  • Old school

  • maybe the bassist was like really stoned

  • @dumberer67 I think that goes without saying

  • @CAJman01 you are a rock star in my book !!! who else would be on this site unless you luv great rock !!!! GOD BLESS !!! there are no losers here-only good people who luv great rock !!!

  • Derringer was polished, Blue's is supposed to be raw, besides cover's are never as good as the original

  • @sirwob That's the funniest thing ever, blues can be whatever a good musician can make it, smooth or raw, intricate or simple. Also this song was written by Rick Derringer and originally recorded by Johnny Winter in 1970, Derringer recorded his solo version in 1974. So I'm not seeing how it's a cover.

  • @elgrovez13 my mistake, I looked it up, I always assumed it was Winter's because I heard his first, but I still prefer my blues raw i.e., Robert Johnson,Willie Dixon.....don't care for Clapton, great guitarist but too polished for my taste, I'm more into like Duane Allman nasty blues guitar

  • And this guy is a legend?

  • I think his 2 best "mainstream" albums are "Johnny Winter and" (prodigal son, out on a limb were on that one. And then Second Winter. He explains it has a blank fourth side on the LP cause they needed so much room for the other songs because they were meant to be played LOUD!

  • Randy Hobbs was great!

  • Back in the day, Detroit Tube Works showed some awesome footage of great bands. It was on some local UHF channel and we used to watch it in a smoke filled haze. Thankfully some of it turned up on YouTube.

  • johnny winter vs bass player

  • The best guitar work from J.W. is on the song nothing left, wich is my favorit song by the man. Another very good and amusing song of his is called " out on a limb". When I think of Johnny Winter, I think of these two songs. they're both great.....

  • Excellent

  • Amazing!!! Johnny, you rock!!!

  • Check it..vinylrecords.ch/winter/Disco2/winter_disco2_johndawsonwinteriii.html

  • its great to see Johnny with Randy Hobbs.they could play taps and Id love it.

  • What the heck is that bass player doing?

  • Depuis le berceau j'écoute ça...

    Et c'est très très bon

  • my mind is out of tune.

  • I grew up in Florida this is southern rock.....

Got to see both the white boys (no dis to albinos) over the years.

    Long Live Rock

  • 2:55 whats a young Dr.Phil doing there?

  • No. The bass IS in tune. He's just playing the wrong notes.

  • i never get's tierd of this song :'D

  • Going to go see him in 17 days!!!! Can't wait!!!!!

  • Straight, clean guitar with zero effects. It doesn't get any better. Johnny Winter..the one, the only.

  • Totally a delight! Obviously an impromptu and what a treat to hear Johnny playing so clean. usually he's pretty high volume but he's the master............

  • I saw the dude in 1991 - sat right in front of him. He was one of the hottest of all time. Lots of hot players use thumb picks. Jeff Beck uses his totally deformed thumb nail.

  • Who else remembers the days of 5,000 Watts of studio lighting?

  • RIDE EM COWBOY

  • I think Johnny's buzzing.

  • The bass player is way to "busy" in this video and not giving the guitar space... I think he's a guitar player in bass player clothing...

  • @jeevespreston The late, great Randy Hobbs, baby!

  • @jeevespreston That's why a bass instrument used in the bands, they are competing for different frequency ranges, they can not interfere and he is keeping good rhytm.

  • @seckin12 Thanks, yes, understand that. I've been playing bass, keys and singing for 15 years. The idea is to, in conjunction with the drummer, provide rhythm to the song, and allow the higher register instruments and vocals room to "dance" around the rhythm. In this song, it seems like the bassist is trying to compete with the guitar player, not providing rhythm.

  • @jeevespreston - You're not stating fact, you're stating your opinion. You're not considering that this is a trio and Randy had to fill for the second guitar player or keyboard player or both. What would you have him do, lock in with the drummer and just play time? Nah, that's Randy Jo Hobbs, a total badass and he was not overplaying at all. At the correct volume, it would have fit right in. And thats bullshit saying he's the guitar player in bass players clothing. Randy was a great bass player

  • @jimdoire well thanks for your considered input... I think you're stating your opinion, and yours is bullshit... You're missing my point, I'm not denying he's a great player, he is. It did not fit in, so was not appropriate... done...

  • @jeevespreston And your "music" sucks. Continue criticizing, it is humorous.

  • OMG the man the legend!!

  • Kick ass classic

  • En tout cas ,t'as une super casquette!!!!!

  • I'm gunna go see this Mofo in concert in March. I am sooooo excited. (I'm 14)

  • Johnny f-n Winter !!!! Yeah !!!!

  • That hat is awesome!

    -Cortez & The Killers

  • Ya, but didn't anyone notice Rick Derringer sitting on a crate clapping his hands....

  • l never knew he did this song... l don't like this version at all, unfortunately.

  • BAD ASS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "you count it off man i cant go through this" lol

  • long live the white rabbit! Johnny Winter! yeah!

  • check out the chick left of the bass player at 1:47!

  • fuckin badass

  • My daughter, Danielle is opening for him Saturday Night in Fall River, MA. I am so proud!!!

  • @cmiraglia2 what an Honour

  • man! johnny is such a badass musician! i dig his style man!

  • The bass is out of tune.

  • @undertakerdeese You said it . Ouch!

  • @undertakerdeese

do you have an ear its only winter playing with an amp no bass

  • @undertakerdeese out of tune and playing a different song

  • @undertakerdeese who cares, johnny is always in tune..

  • @undertakerdeese Horribly.

  • fucking badass...... just fucking badass

  • Nice to see Johhny again, last saw him at the MAGIC MUSHOOM in Houston, 1968, sang alot of Stones songs, especially satisfaction, great that night. Simply blues great, lost sight of him after that, but not his brother.

  • wow ! ..... shok for me ...

  • bass man? ....he lost in space!

  • No pretenders here. A Winter wonder land.

  • Local moms are alone do you need to meet them naneedj.info

  • met him in the back of his bus back in 1980's...they stayed at the Hilton and i was head of security...on his way out that night called into the bus...asked me if i wanted to smoke or something to drink...said "nah" can't on duty..he laughed and handed me a $100.00 bill...real cood dude..but skinny as a rail...

  • SOME ONE HELP THAT BASS PLAYER...WOW...WTF...

  • I always thought this was Rock Derringer's song.

  • @LeBigMoneyShow Rick wrote it. and had a huge hit on it. He also used to play with Johnny before he made it big.

  • hell ya i hope he comes to TN

  • Johnny Winter kicks so much ass it's unbelievable. Such a great blues guitarist.

  • This is not a step.

  • Mitico, Legendario¡¡ Autentico

  • sorry but the Bassist is playing in another tonality.....

  • @albertoacquiterme Yeah...Randys E string is way outta tune. But both Johnny and Randy were well tuned! :>)

  • Didn't we see him at Chicago fest? Muddy Waters? Front row.

  • @KatPattinson101 Yeah he was there I remember seeing him

  • ehh thats one ugly mother fucker on bass lol

  • I always wonder whether Johnny Winter uses Thumbpick like a flatpick especially on his single note runs or whether its both thumb & finger. He never did explain how its done in interviews...........................

  • @MultiFunkmeister Johnny primarily uses his thumbpick as a flatpick. Uses the thumbpick for all single note runs, etc., but uses his other fingers as well for more complicated stuff. Never learned to use a flatpick...

  • @beeroosterm Damn, he thumbpicked those lines from illustrated man?

  • @causticblood Always thumbpicks. Everything. Since day one...

  • I think Ed Sullivan once invited him onto his show to perform but he was very sick at the time unable to perform on his show.

  • Woodstock '69 Festival had the best with Johnny Winter,Mountain,Ten Years After,Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Jimi Hendrix.

  • Um...I wonder why such a good guitar player is playing a "cover" of his song?

  • "whomever he is" ? You are either 1. Way too young 2. Were in a coma for the last twenty years or 3. Don't know anything about music and never will.

I'll give you give you the benifit of the doubt and say 1.

  • Rick Derringer may have made it an official Hit - However the Johnny Winter And may have a say in that... ;)

  • Clarifications - Yeah, it's Johnny Winter out of Beaumont, Texas. I've seen him many times and just about every great blues player (having grown up in Austin, Tx.) and believe me, Johnny can play circles around most. Just about every blues player has added some of his licks to their bag. One thing- the album "STill ALive and Well" was named that because he had just overcome a bad 2 year heroin addiction, not because of the "albino /crossroads" myth. He has a biography coming out soon. RockonJW!

  • Great version of a classic Rick Derringer's tune. Another great live version is off Edgar Winter's Roadwork album. Johnny also covers Rick's Still Alive and Well.

  • Man, this is a rare clip!

  • All i can say is pro i cant believe you dont hear about this guy much

  • It s all good but the bass is killing all the beauty

  • i love this video
