i noticed they dont mention punk even though this is from 79 proof that punk never got credit until years later. even though punk was heavely influenced by first stage rock n, roll
Thanks for posting. This was the very first rock n' roll documentary I ever saw. Got me hooked on the '50's and made me regret being born too late! Great stuff.
Actually I've always wanted to see a doc that was more inclusive, covering the range of music, from the 40-50's, up to today, including (but not limited to) R&B, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Rockabilly, Soul, the Motown sound, etc.. There are so many that i can't think of them all, but they all had a part in influencing each other and the music scene as a whole. After all what strictly is rock and roll?
Oh yes! I almost forgot! From yours the whole bit about the rise of Elvis is missing too! It has some early footage of him playing live, moves and all, and the public going crazy! But don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining! Thanks for posting this!
Thanks for posting this, I think is one of the best documentaries about R&R that I've seen.. & since The Big Lebowski Jeff Bridges (a great actor since The Last Picture Show) has the perfect credentials to present it! The thing is: someone else has posted this too, but both of your uploads have parts missing. His doesn't have the whole of your Part 1, but Bill Haley (with phenomenal footage from a German gig) & Chuck Berry are totally missing from yours! What's going on?
i always heard of the hell elvis went through when starting out. he was even accused of shooting his own mother lol but i didnt know that all of the stars went through hell to being accepted by the bible belt. reminds me of the hell we went through just trying to have a prom in our town. back in 86 yes 86 it was illegal to dance where i grew up untill then and still is a old law in some southern towns in oklahoma. roflmao. but preachers daughters was legal with penicillan shot.

Remember what Danny and the Juniors sang. "I don't care what people say, Rock and Roll is Her to Stay".
