hell Patti'll whoop Chaka herself. I saw her slap Chaka and Michael Jackson around in the Rose Bowl many years ago on "Stuff Like That" when Quincy was opening for Aretha and Stevie. Saw Gladys woop Chaka at the Hollywood Bowl last summer too.

Aretha and Patti L are stil the Queens, after all these years, though.

First of all the Bowl was sold out (20K) and Ms Khan was the opener, just as she was for Patti at the Pantages. The LA Times (Supercritic Don Heckman) and the crowd gave Chaka her props but it was all about a LOVE KO, in the favor of Champ Knight.

Gladys' show was way to Vegas for me, but the pipes and the heart are still in top form when she works it. Chakas still has the diamond scream notes down but he mid range, not so much.

This song is from The Color Purple. Steven Spielberg offered that role to Chaka but she declined - her "head" was in the wrong place she said. Unfortunate. That role and this song would have certainly earned her Oscar nominations. Margaret Avery got the part - and the Oscar nomination.
