the fender bass is a miracle worker for recording.like all inventions which solve a problem when it's impossible ,they are never surpassed only improved on.The Hoffner is a short scale bass so it has more swing(bass amplitude) to the string at the same frequency. The gibson EBO Bass (cream animals)is also short scale. The Hoffner does have an overtone series similar to a string bass and through a large rock system can sound very "accoustic I went to trade my hoffner in on a fender, no improvement
If I had one question to ask Sir Paul it would be...........How come I never saw him play a fender bass or if he ever tried one? If he has did he like them and which one jazz, precision? I guess thats more than one question. Anyway. I know he has played the Hofner of course, the rickenbacker and some others that I would like to know about.
@Cleatusbodean I can answer your question. In the early 60's the Violin bass caught his eye because of it's symmetry which lets him flip the bass over and play left handed without the bass looking upside down. He played the Rickenbacker for a while because they no longer did live shows and people can't differ between an upside down bass and a regular one on a record, so he thought "Why not?" But he switched back because the Violin is special to him, he has never bought a new bass.
oh, Paul...
