  • Wait.....did Someone scream out COCAINE at 2:40 !!!!!???

HOLY CRAP.....how did they miss that in editing?

  • ARAGORN IS A CHUG!?!?!?!?!

  • the peter jackson frodo would have died if he was with the bashki sam

  • I recognize aragorns voice... oh my god! Its the horned king from the black cauldron :o

  • Aside from being inexplicably Native American, Aragorn is pretty much perfect in this.

Sam, on the other hand, looks like an inbred hick with a lazy eye.

  • bipitty boppity boo!

  • Jeez aragorn, rockin the mini skirts for some gay reason but every thing else is fine............

Except sam he looks like a troll i will never recover fully from the horror of aragorn and sam

  • Man, why didn't Mortensen go around in short shorts too...

  • @loljustice31 Dude! 'Cause then he would have chicken white-blue thighs in that snow scene! LOL!

  • @Jakegothicsnake lol how do you know that's what his thighs are like? Maybe he has nice thighs~

  • @loljustice31 Well, regardless whether his thighs are nice or otherwise, if you go around without pants in a snowy cold area, your thighs are going to get cold! LOL

  • @Jakegothicsnake Aww poor strider and his cold thighs.

  • @loljustice31 It's more of a mini-skirt

  • lol aragorn is mexican

  • 3:14 John Wayne!

  • Aragorn shaves his pits.

  • BLACK RIDERS!!!...IN BROWN!!!!

  • why do you guys love this? this doesn't stand a chance before peter's version...

  • @Vignesh0000 Um, because for its time this was really quite good? You can't compare these things.

  • i love the way they drew Bree

  • wraiths were a lot more badass in this version

  • aragorn has a nice 70's haircut. he looks like an american news reader during the vietnam war.

  • @TheDFixx sounds like one, too.

  • i am aragorn son of quick-wolf of the cherokee indians

  • aragorn looks like john redcorn.

  • The bar scene animation is soooo trippy lol

  • Can anyone make out the words to the song at 2:20? "An old grey hill, a merry old (something) here under the moon.

  • 2:50

What is Billy Corgan doing in Middle Earth?

  • Comment removed

  • ok, anyone who has read the books can tell how this version is better adapted, anyway peter jackson´s film is great to

  • @andespuri

I can't agree more. What I like about this version is that this Frodo is more like in the books. The Frodo of the films is just so... depressed.

  • @MischiefManaged1990 that is what i meant

  • 2:30 merry got flashed and passed oout

  • Anyone remember watching this as kids? It was much deeper than the Hobbit, etherial, atmospheric and creepy. I loved it.

  • Aragorn looks likes a mexican

  • Im watching this for the first time and I really like it. You of course cant compare two entirely different attempts to turn Tolkiens books into a film.

Its also funny how people complain about characters voices or looks - thats just because you are to narrow minded to appreciate two different versions of the film.

  • this is fucking TERRIBLE!!!!

  • this is fucking TERRIBLE!!!!

  • Jeez frodo is tall lol

  • John Hurt's "My name is Aragorn..." has to be the best enunciated line in the whole movie.

  • Ringwraiths seem more menacing in this version to me.

  • 1:34 Creepy as fuck.

  • @CharlesAycock I'm going to have nightmares...

  • @CharlesAycock Because? :P

  • @EGLchan Because of that man's freaky smile! Yikes that's scary:P

  • frodo is too tall

  • 0:20 secs in, that's the cover from MERP's "Bree and the Barrow Downs"! :)

  • @Thetrumanunit but plipped sideways.

  • 1:32 Midgets.... PLUS I didnt think that it was possible for a cartoon Aragorn to have a spray on tan

  • Comment removed

  • i dont get why so many characters or places have to have a similar name, it confuses the shit out of me, like gandalf, gondor, gildor, giligasomething, sarumon, sauron,

  • those shadow riders are creepy dudes

  • everybody here is blaming this cartoon, but honestly, Peter Jackson copies it a lot ! Im a great fan of LOTR, and now I see this version, I have lots of respect for Ralph Bakshi! Hes the first to imagine the pictures

  • @iPheezy A good example of Bakshi's influence is the scene with the riders destroying the bed, that was not in the book but first appeared in the cartoon. Jackson used that scenario and improved on it.

  • this has the shittiest acting, the shittiest animation, the shittiest drawings and what the hell is up with the real people that they turned into cartoons in the bar scene?!!?!? that looks horrible!

  • nice end of video climax

  • Why do the Nazgul act like something out of scooby doo?

  • why does everyone sound like chipmunks ? even aragorn and saruman do lol

  • @1993jmr don't you mean Aruman? :P

  • @DeLuneNoir lol yeah your right its aruman ;)

  • Does anyone else think Aragorn looks like Anton Chigurh from "No Country for Old Men"?

  • damn, Aragorn looks so ugly

  • Hey Ayowin come check out Aragorn he looks like an indian chief! xD

  • Comment removed

  • Finding this version of the books made me all giddy and stuff :D

  • kinda cool how he mixed real film with cartoons, it probably saved a bit of animation.

  • I was so disappointed when Aragorn didn't draw out a broken Narsil in FOTR. Jackson thought that it would look comical but I disagree. I think that the way Narsil looked broken was kind of menacing. I also think that it makes Aragorn really interesting the way he carries a broken sword. At this point in the story he is an enigma but not particurly intersting. The broken sword was what got me interested in him as a character.

  • Aragorn/Crouching bear, king of the comanches!!!

  • Well...creds for bakshi tryng, but why make strider/aragorn look so gay and old? He is blessed with long life so he shouldent look so old. The books beat both the film adaptions anyway so there is no competition.

  • I love the part near the end of this video

  • gondor has no pants

    gondor needs no pants!

  • JESUS.....what happend to aragon!

  • @fred9136 He is Native American.

  • @fred9136 It's Aragorn, not Aragon :)

  • Is anybody else being struck by the urge to kill Sam?

  • @lotr343 Why so evil?

  • @lotr343 Sam what did they do to you?

  • @lotr343 Shelob raised the 8 hands... legs

  • Why is Aargon's sword tip missing? Didn't read the books so maybe it's in there... Somewhere...

  • @ChanVideos In the books, Aragorn carries the shards of Narsil with him, and it is reforged into Anduril before the Fellowship leaves Rivendell. Peter Jackson doesn't have Narsil reforged until Return of the King to be more symbolic of Aragorn accepting his destiny to be king.

  • @camras Ohh... That makes sense xD

  • @camras Giving Aragorn Anduril in the third movie instead of the first was a good decision on Jackson's part. It's one of the few changes I agree with.

  • @ChanVideos Read the book, then! It explains it completely!

  • For some reason the tavern dancing scene reminds me of Fable

  • I said it before. Aragorn looks like a coked up marv albert. Everyone in this movie aside from gandalf looks like an asshole. This is the sort of movie i wish sauron had won. :(

  • 2:42 COCAINE!

  • Did any of you notice the scene with the Nazgul at part 2???that surelly inspired Peter Jackson or I am an elephant!and again NO TOM BOMBADIL :(

  • dissapearing seems to piss then off more than baffle them lol

  • I love how Bakshi portrays Hobbits in this film.

  • 7:05 oh...well that was...not as epic as I'd hoped.

  • a) Aragorn don't need pants bitch!

    b) He's obviously Pocahontas' Brother. duh.

    c) Sam is the shit. He makes everything possible. I mean, could you really be mean to those big eyes and gapped teeth?

  • since when was aragorn king leonidas from 300?

  • Lol why is Aragorn Native??

  • If by my life or death I can protect you, I will.

  • I don't think it occurred to Aragorn that not wearing pants make you look a little like a sex criminal...

  • wow......aragorn......fail.......

  • John Hurt!

  • What happened to Aragorn's pants?? :o

  • What happened to Aragorn's pants?? :o

  • Strider is tanned from spending so much time outside in the sun. It is appropriate that he is depicted this way here. John Hurt provides his voice--brilliant. Look for John Hurt as the old doctor in Captain Corelli's Mandolin with Penelope Cruz and Nicholas Cage. Sam is the true hero of LOTR. He is a simple Hobbit who is trustworthy and actually smarter than he appears. And he is never tempted to betray anyone or take the ring. Without him Frodo would never have made it.

  • WHAT DID THEY DO TO SAM!!!!??????

  • lol Aragorn is like the Cheroke verson of Conan the Barbarian!

I like this film alot even though I dont consider it to be Bakshis best. I'd say Wizards, Fritz the Cat and Heavy Traffic are my fav bakshi flicks.

  • how dont u hear some radome wraith panting behind u

  • wow sam is a retard in this cartoon lol

  • Aragorn = Chigurh

  • 1:46 thats a proffesional trollface

  • And after he was finished being the ringbearer, Frodo became a professional table dancer :D

  • aragorn looks like shit

  • NOOoooOOOOoooOOooOOoooOOOooo Aragorn is not hot T______T

...I'd love to see viggo in that miniskirt.

  • Somebody fucked up the animation in the bar.

  • terrible. barely moving junk ; John Hurt's performance keeps it just barely above water.

  • Sam's so cute !

  • 0:20 - And...once again...Bombadil gets the shaft, with a hey dol, merry dol. *sighs* Poor bastard.

  • I always imagined Aragorn to be a little more attractive...

  • @sharksarefriends Yes, but he is voiced by John Hurt so all is forgiven...this time...

  • Strider looks like a 60 year old Marv Albert but thanks for posting I really enjoy watching this older version.

  • wow watchin this now, i realise how much inspiration the live action movies draw from this one

  • Why do some of the people in this, move like real people? It is as if they took live action and painted over it.

  • @TheCGIMaster Surprisingly, that is EXACTLY what they did. It's called rotoscaping. Though it's done very badly, to be honest.

  • @TheCGIMaster That's exactly what they did . . . took actual people and animated over them . . .

  • Who farted now? :-D

    2:30

  • Stryder looks like Jimmy Smits!!!

  • aragorn looks like the guy from no country for old men O_o

  • why is aragorn so ugly??

  • @coolbeansismything

Because that way, if he wanted the ring for himself, he could have it. Now, *pulls out sword*

  • Is anyone else creeped out by the pseudo-realistic humans in this movie?

  • @Glitcher2000 yes! omg they don't match at all! XD

  • The hobbits don't know about the sword of Anduril, so they're porbably just thining "what the fuck is this jackass bum doing with a broken sword.."

  • Does anybody else think that Bakshis style would have been excellent for an adaptation of Micheal Moorcocks Elric saga?

  • Comment removed

  • Wow Aragorn has some very feminine legs.

  • NO PANTS

  • Real men don't wear pants!

  • Cliffhanger :P

  • 1:45. Inkeeper's raepfaec.

  • This is very similar to the movies.

  • @jezmuff ?!

That's because they're both based on the books.

  • 1:35 ye be a third age trollface

  • Wait a sec. Dont hobbits have furry feet?

  • Wrong!. Most of the Nazgul were attacking Crickhollow while they were sleeping at Bree.

  • Trippy animation in the bar scene.

  • yeah, peter jackson's movies copied a lot of shit from this. mostly set designs and camera angles. and the fact that they both skipped about 4 chapters early on.

  • I wonder if Peter Jacksons films would have had a footing if Bakshi hadnt shown the potential of Tolkien being brought to screen?

  • Aragorn sold off his pants to buy some joint...

  • man. aragorn does not translate kindly in animation

  • @haohaohayashi I don't remember Aragorn being Red Indian!!!

  • @kamalganguly precisely

  • GAH! FFS Aragorn put some pants on! for crying out loud, for the sake of all of us watching!

  • Aragon the orignal Link

  • holy crap.. rotoscoping in the prancing pony lol

  • is Strider not wearing any pants? o_0

    Sam's teeth scare me

  • 2:42 'COCAINE!'

  • i am not sure about that - D&D developed from an earlier game Chainmail that allowed gameplay in medieval combat, and many D&D characters are not drawn from LOTR (the basilisk for instance) - while it is true that D&D and its progeny WOW would not be as rich without LOTR, I am not convinced that they would not _exist_ without LOTR.

  • I like the cartoonized real-life actors lol

  • lol Master Blaster at 1:44

  • hehe Barliman Borgnine.

  • Bad drawing of Aragorn, Hurt's voice doesn't suit him, I think a deeper voice would suffice.

  • The Nazgul are creepy, but Aragorn looks ancient! yes, he's old, but he's also a Dunedein.

  • Those black riders are deeply disturbing!

  • Aragorn looks like a cherokee

  • @TubbysquatG plus he sounds about 40 years older than he looks

  • Oh my God. John Hurt is AMAZING as Aragorn.

  • First time I've noticed this in all these years: 0:59 and 3:23 is Bill Ferny (old fat guy?) and the "Squint-eyed Southerner" (cloaked guy?)

  • 4:50 "they'll come on you in the wild where there is no help"... will they now

  • Holy shit the Nazgul are much creepier then in Peter Jacksons version.

  • Can you imagine if Elijah Wood sang in the live action version? :3

  • Aragorn sounds like John Hurd; looks like Nigel Davenport

  • Nostalgia critic: please don't kill me. 7:02

  • Which King : Lets ice this midget!

    Khamul: Totally.

    NAZGUL POWERS ACTIVATE!!!!

  • @jaknife99 LOL

  • A lot of this film was rotoscoped. They had actors physically perform their roles then animated the character over them.

  • i lol'd at 3:09

Also why the hell did Bakshi make Aragorn a native american? That's just one of the many character potrayals in this movie that I will never understand.
