Realistically, Jackie Gleason was no different from so many others in the Beautiful Music era. Generally one person (Percy Faith, Ray Conniff, etc.) would get credit for a room full of performers.
Having a great ear and claiming credit for music you never wrote is still wrong buddy. If I stood in a room with Mozart and asked him to change a clarinet to a bassoon than trying to claim credit would be wrong...... no excuses. He was an ok comedian. I loved him in the Honeymooners and he was brilliant in Gigot. He was a staple of his era as were frank sinatra, Lucille ball etc etc. I loved some of his work and hated others....... still a legend
Here is a perfect example of a great actor who took credit for work that was not his own. The man was not a musician and he was not a composer. Read his bios etc and you will see that he would hire composers to do the work while he simply took the credit and never gave them so much as a foot not of credit. I love jackie gleason but the facts are the facts.
@bassist718 although he did not compose the msuic, he had a great ear for music and was always in the studio with the composers telling them to change things etc. So yes, like you said he could not read music and everyone knows this. But the great one had a great ear for music.
@bassist718...Yeah the facts are the facts and the facts are you couldn't hold a candle to Jackie Gleason and I'd bet you can't play a bass!

My dad use to look like Jackie Gleason, people would come up to him and ask if it was him, kinda funny, I miss him.
