  • Grange Hill youtube piano arrangement. Oh....no. Oh......NO!

  • very well played thanks for the memories

  • I had no idea that this was an Alan Hawkshaw tune. I've got some Mohawks on CD and just LOVE his stuff... The Dave Allen theme is a real favourite too and I've just spotted you've done that already : )

  • Sheer brilliance you and whoever wroite it, ace! 10 lines, "I must learn to play this theme tune"

  • Nice one Paul, I've been going through your tv themes and they're all top of the class! Here's a slightly obscure one for you, 'The Man from Atlantis' with Patrick Duffy I think - a crime fighting Atlantean who for some reason armed criminals always tied up and threw into the docks to get rid of, instead of just shooting him? Even at age 7 I knew that was even more far fetched than a bloke who can breathe underwater.

  • I know exactly what you mean about the awkwardness - it doesn't have a natural flow to it and you play it incredibly well, despite that. 100%, Good Effort, Five Merit-Points!!

  • I really like this video. Played really well.

  • Do you know the other version of grange hill?

    I'd like that one played.

  • Fantastic! +1 for a tutorial please Paul.

    Quick scarper, here comes Gripper!

  • GREAT!

  • As an expat living in Australia for the last 30 odd years this brought a tear to my eye. Gord bless for bringing the memories flooding back.

  • @mhkaye You're welcome. My son has just started secondary school and this has re-awoken vivid memories of secondary school.

  • @paulwwells Oddly, it was also the theme tune to 'Give Us a Clue'

  • @wesmatron I do remember it was used for that two - although it was a different arrangement and different instruments; certainly a testimony to how strong a tune it is that it should be used twice.

  • Hey Paul, any chance of you doing the Chucklevision theme?

  • @Richiepookinshoo There's a very good version by thankyoubutnodeal which I doubt I can improve on

  • @paulwwells Whatsa matter? Scaaaared? Get on with it! And NO SLACKING!

  • That video has just given me 100 lines ;-)

I must learn to play the Grange Hill theme tune

I must learn to play the Grange Hill theme tune

I must learn to play the Grange Hill theme tune

    ...

    Top stuff!

  • @djchronica185 Ha Ha

  • wow thanx for that vid i nether tgought about the theme music, but it is actully relly funky, i guess!

    NICE playing!

  • Brings back the memories. Thx

  • Wow. that's amazing. So clear. Well done.

  • Spot on, as always. Amazing!!

  • This made me smile.

  • Yeah another great one.

  • I guess everybody who did videos before youtube changed their look, will ahve please rate on them whereas now it changed and new comers are like 'OMG where do I rate!'. Im still guna like your video tho. I think the vids are awesome.

  • Fun fact: the official name for this piece of music is 'Chicken Man'.

  • BRILLIANT !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW! I am typing this already after the first four notes. Haven't listened to it all yet! Brilliant. Cue the flying sausage!

  • Total class. This was the Grange Hill theme from my youth.

  • hey, good one!

  • This was one of the greatest songs I've heard in a while! It sounds like something from the earthbound/mother games! Great playing! 5/5+5/5 I can't rank more than one time...XD

  • Thanks JFKgamer. And thanks for subscribing.

  • You deserve it! How did you learn this song? By ear or sheets?

  • So it's not the later theme?

  • The later theme was written by a competition winner (I think).

  • No, the original theme ran from 1970-1989 seasons, then was replaced from 1990-2003ish by a totally different tune. When by 2003 the show was on its way out, they went back to a more modern electronic shorter version of this tune until the last episode was broadcast.

  • Do you have the musical notes for it?

If so, could i have them so i can learn it? =]

  • that is amzing :)

  • Thank you. Because of your cover I found out "Grange Hill" show. I've downloaded first season, watch it and soooo like it! Thank you for such a good feelings!

  • please please please make a tutorial video

  • NICE!!!

  • This theme definately sounds really awkward and jerky without the percussion sticking all the pieces together

  • Yeah - more like a Chas and Dave number !

  • not a bad idea that maybe he should do a Chas and Dave song :D

  • Paul. can you give us Blackadder theme? including cello intro then a layered harpsichord with oboe - bet you can?

  • Paul ,Your trx are awesome - brought back many memories and taught me the Grange Hill intro riff - nice layered B3 & piano!

Nice to see your son has picked it up too - can't get mine to play any instrument (s)

  • Your Charlie and Lola tutorial is excellent. I would love one for this too - what a fantastic version of a great piece of music. Any chance of you putting it together Paul?

  • wtg i liked this, thank you for sharing your very talented player. The person who composed this Alan Hawkshaw also palyed the keyboads and piano and i suppose he composed it on that

  • you're great, this has been favourited

  • cool

  • Never appreciated the music before. Great job.

  • That's the kindest of comments cos that's exactly what I hope for.

  • Awsome Grange Hill Theme, I must say your Piano Playing is really good. Especially doing TV Themes, I love TV Themes & TV Soundtracks..

  • Thanks. The themes make good material because everyone knows them and they're not too long, just 30 seconds normally.

  • Hi awesome video, i dont suppose you could send me the music / notes for this could you :) please :) thanks Amy x

  • By expansion unit I take it you mean the Motif XS Rack? That's good for just the voices but it's worth paying the extra to get the actual hardware keys too - I mean you could use your Roland RD seperately still and have the Motif as a standalone too for brass, strings, guitar, SFX etc etc!

  • There's no noticeable delay whatsoever (I used to use it live all the time with my Yamaha P70. Of course, the only delay there is is the high un-noticeable difference between striking a key on a keyboard compared to an acoustic piano - hardly noticeable to the human ear!

  • Yeah the Motif XS is an incredibly powerful tool and with your playing ability you realy would get the max outta it. and of course, if you didn't fancy shelling out all that money for the XS8 with Piano Weighted keys, you could simply get the XS6 and connect it to your Roland RD700sx with a midi cable (so you use the Roland to control the XS)

  • I originally thought I would just buy the expansion unit rather than the full keyboard - but seeing from the demo how you can control all the sequencing and mixing from the keyboard then maybe the full thing may be the way to go. I hope midi has got quicker - in the old days there was a delay between playing and hearing the sound.

  • This, again, is pure brilliance. I really do admire you, you know! The way you play is so relaxed and you really know what you're doing! If I win the lottery I'll buy you a MOTIF XS! thats the deal.

  • I've just watched the Motif xs demo - I have to say it does sound really good.

  • Du-de-do-doooo...SAUSAGE!.

  • Ha Ha

  • HA HA HA!

  • You've made my day! cheers!.

  • A very nice arrangement. The Grange Hill theme - despite my dislike of the show on the whole - has always been one of my favourites, probably because of those magnificent opening notes.

  • Thanks. There's a good number on this channel which fall into the like-the-tune-don't-like-the-programme category.

  • this is well good :D

  • This definitely brings back memories, well orchestrated! Will listen again coming to think of it!

  • Thanks. A good tune of its time.

  • and i mean i always though it was to be honest i havent got aa clue what the reall ones played with reallly trumputs is 1988 but no 78 - 87 i havent played it in ages

  • i used be abele to do that and the new one

  • Excellent!!!

  • Ah thanks very much. :)

  • sounds better than reall one i could not play ot that well tho

  • That's a very high compliment. Thanks :)
