Folks, I did some research; Cold Steel Italian sword has at its 2/3 of the blade about 1" width and 0,2" blade thickness - which is absolutely historically accurate for 15th century longswords. The light hollow grind was also not uncommon. This means we see historical authentic cutting power of the Longsword, if used with proper technique and cut with the right part of the blade.

There it dies, the myth of "blunt longswords used for bludgeoning at heavy 150 pound armor"...

@Protherium Wikipedia mentions that these swords were made by some smiths with oh so reveared convex/lenticular edge as well. I can see why CS opted for having hollow edges, much cheaper to make and sell at.

As a Wizard/Fighter muticlas, I need a one-handed sword with enough power to chop an orc's head off, but still be lightweight enough to use in one hand. This sword delivers.

With this, I can slice an undeads arm off with one hand and fire a bolt of lightning at them with the other.

It's saved my bacon on more then one occasion, and without it, I would never have made it through the Temple of Yog-Nartyblag and defeated the evil lich known only as "The king in Gray".

@ericcire54321 That would be cool to have. But since most of their swords and daggers don't have their tangs peened to the pommel (they thread them) I tend to stay away from all but their sabers. I really wanna see Cold Steel make shields and LARP weapons with polypropylene cores (I'm not into LARP personally but still...) I basically wanna see CS do more with polypropylene. I own some of the training swords and they're AWESOME. Now I wanna have some poly shields to go with em. That'd be SWEET:)

Thank you cold steel for this video. I am interested in all things 15th century especially the hundred years wars and the wars of the roses. I have a German stile long sword with a XVIIIb Oakeshott type blade vrey similar to your Italian long sword on display in my home and when I get visitors most of them say "a samurai sword is better it can cut a person in half" so I sit them in front of My computer and say "watch this and look out for the pig at 1:12".

Actually yea it is...a majority of people wear it. Denium and leather is really tough to slice through in order to make major impact on flesh. Obviously with a sword its not a problem. But in a folding knife...it's alot harder then you think. Even penitration can be difficult. Even bullets such as a jacketed hollow point or bonded hollow point have potential to fail due to the hollow point being cloged up with denium and/or leather. Making expansion fail thus making it less effectiv

Nice. Would love to see you guys make a Filipino style espada y daga set. There are a ton of FMA practitioners and the arts are growing rapidly. There is a real lack of access to real hard use blades to match the style of weapon play employed by FMA practitioners. Many people suggest the use of machetes which, while historically not inaccurate, is unsafe considering the lack of a hilt and choil for thrusting.

Cold Steel still has no idea how to make a longsword or to use one. They seem to think that swords are just big daggers.

The cutting here is also abysmal when compared to their knife and sabre videos (not that those were good in the first place). Handle a sword by Cold Steel and compare it to any made by a reputable maker of reproduction swords and the difference is readily apparent.

I have to say, after working with this weapon a bit, this is the most versatile sword I've ever seen. Period. Does it stab as well as a smallsword? No. Does it cut as well as a Katana? Hell no. Is it as maneuverable as a rapier? No. Is it as durable as a big-ol, ugly broadsword? Probably not. BUT! It cuts WAY better than a smallsword, stabs way better than a Katana, is WAY more maneuverable than a broadsword, and is far more durable than a rapier. If you want One Sword, get this one.
