Good question and good debate - both are truly great songs (both are even in the key of E). Almost impossible to choose. Actually, as much as I love both of these songs and bands, if I HAD to pick one song that is better it would be Black, simply because (1 - Nutshell just uses 3 chords for whole song, so musically super simple, and 2 - lyrics are more original / creative in Black, all the metaphors Vedder invokes, like sheets of empty canvas, hands cradle broken glass, all 5 horizons, etc.

I'm a big Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains fan. I can't compare the bands due that they are so far from each other as far as their music goes, completely different pallets. As far as the songs, I think putting Nutshell "vs" Footsteps* would have been more, um, appropriate, if you will. Now, which tune would I pick? ...I won't say.

Alice in chains are the best band in the world and nutshell is my fave. song and it will be forever thinking a lot of things back then just dream hard on nutshell then u will see all the old stuff happen in the past
