  • I'm pretty sure she actually wrote this song.

  • what a fool am i

    to think my breaking heart

    could kiss the moon

  • I sang this in my lover's ear while dancing. You have to make a stand somewhere. We twisted our hearts, together. That's love. It ain't nice but ...

  • JAK CZYTAM O JEJ ZYCIU ..PORAZA MNIE BEZDUSZNOSC SYSTEMU AMERYKI ,NISZCZENIE TALENTU ,ROBIENIE NA NIM PIENIĘDZY I POZOSTAWIENIE GENIUSZU NA ....ZATRACENIE...BRUDNA AMERYKA Z BIALYMI KAPTURAMI....

  • I don't know why but Billie always brings tears to my eyes. Simply beautiful.

  • An excellent Billie´s version . Of course her voice wasn´t the same as the 30 ´n 40´s , this track is present in her penultimate album, LADY IN SATIN - 1957, onde year before your death. God bless you Lady Day ! Thank you "taureau20" by post It.

  • @vilellamanda you're welcome!

  • so beautiful...makes me tingle when the harmony comes in at about 0:48.

  • Brought tears to my eyes.

  • Billie's version is beautiful, but I think Chet Baker's version of this song is better.

  • @espilehiyo

Chet's version is beautiful but Billie gives it such a layered depth--sardonic wit wrapped in a regretful melancholy. Chet learned a great deal from her as is evident in so many of his fine vocal performances.

  • Absolutely beautiful...it gives me chills. Few voices can do that to me.

  • i love the chet baker version as well, it's so gentle

  • With strings, it's the long river of life !

  • I love Billie Holiday! I prefer this recording, and love the ending.

  • chet's voice is absolutely perfect for the tune, but it's very nice to hear the song performed by a woman.. gives it a new dimension

  • @vikawika Nina Simone's performance is quite interesting too :))

  • Yes...I prefer nina simone recording of the song

  • I am trying to find a clay animation short set to this song. It is about a boy who lost his dog. I think it us from the 80s but can't remember. Childhood memories!!

  • i found it but i cant find it again

  • chet baker's is the best!!! the voice fits the melody of the song!!!!

  • A voice in a billion. Magical. Universal. Eternal.

  • youtube/watch?v=P6IpVnBP4S0, a very funny version of this song.

  • Billie is the greatest of all time!

  • i love this version, but i think Nina Simone's highly emotional version is best.

  • Same here

  • The "drunkenness" is part of the irony....clearly NOT getting along without you.

  • Also Carly Simon on her "Torch" album and don't forget ...

Matt Monro .... who sang this the best of all

  • You can really hear the difference in her voice compared to her earlier songs. It has more pain in it..

  • that's why it sounds even better:)

  • Billie's version is without a doubt the best version in my opinion.

  • completely agree hers is superior to all of the other versions. She was an amzing talent that passed on far too quickley

  • @jobeesebastian agreed. Lady Day brings more soul and feeling to this song.

  • good song
