Was this looked into? These law needs to be changed. I am also paying an ex who makes thousands more than me and does not care a bit about how it effects me or my future. 20 years downs the drain. I will be suprised if anyone in Congress touches this. It is the ugly duckling everyone want to leave alone. Thanks for your video. I signed the petition online and so have many others. Read the stories, it is heart breaking. Google USFSPA petition and you will find it.
I commend the LTC for taking the approach in addressing such an issue with ex-spouses and retirement benefits to the Sec. of Def. Disturbingly, men have complained about this atrocity for years. But it took one woman to complain about it in order for this issue to be heard. As men have NO voice within the realm of gender politics, at least the woman addressed the issue as NOT GENDER BASED but as a service member issue - which is admirable.
I share your sentiments I would like the law repealed but since that is impractical the at least reform it . I believe that the USFSPA discriminates against members of the Uniformed Services who become divorced by subjecting them to mandates for the distribution of marital assets not applicable to other government employees (including members of Congress) and private citizens of the United States. I strongly object to its award for life, even if the benefiting ex-spouse remarries.
How can people get divorced when you have minor children?
