You have to use a pedal with this amp, it sounds liek ass without it. I use a multi effects processer with mine, I would not get his amp if you are looking for something cheap, Go with the B-52 LS100. same price better sound!!!
I have to say that this is the best i have ever heard one of these amps sound. My MG100dfx combo is a piece of shit, For the price range i should have looked at a randall or peavy vyper.
@MagrPwnAge yeah i know man.. but i don't play directly into this amp anymore. i use a line 6 floor pod... and i have to say.. it sounds very.. very good trough this amp.. i just play trough the clean channel.. not the effect loop, so i can boost the mids and bass up and i get a much havyer tone than in this video, maybe i'll make a new video with the floor pod.
@bjswagger99 i said, i play trough my pedal trough the clean channel of the amp, so i can adjust the eq on the pedal, and also on the amp, so that are 2 eq's.. in other words, you boost up the mids, bass and trebbel..
@CoDsick that depends on what model of marshall you buy. with this amp you can play any kind of style.. it has 4 channels.. clean/crunch/overdrive1(soft overdrive) and overdrive 2(high gain overdrive).. but it's the best for more kind of heavy stuff.. overdrive 2 sounds prety good.. but overdrive 1 and the crunch channel are not my favourite..
@omarliew Aha i was thinking about a Marshall MG100HFX Stack 100 w. but u recomed a marshall for Heavy sounds?? Do u know anu amps that are for rock and not heavy rock? Ty for the info and the answer ;D
@CoDsick i was talking about this amp.. mg100hdfx 100watt.. it's better for like. metal than for rock.. but you can also play rock with it.. jutst lower the gain and mess around with settings.. i don't know how much money you want to spent? you can also check the marshall jcm 800/900.. or maybe a mesa boogie? or something like that.. just go to a music store where they sell different amps.. and ask you're question over there.. they will help you find the amp that fits youre style
@CoDsick or if your looking for another decent heavy metal sound for an affordable price- look at line 6 spiders.. i can personally recommend the spider 2 150 watt halfstack version.. if you really want to go solid state.
marshall is one of the best sounding amps and its dependable which mesa boogie isnt since ive heard there are some preoblems with it overheating and shutting off.
everyone says that mg sucks or some people say all marshall amps suck . if a marshall sucks then what amp is at least respectable??? for some idiots there is not a single amp which is at least good.
@omarliew thanks for the advice, i heard a lot of that amp but what model would yo reccomend because i think that there are diferent model for example 2203 or something like that
and the last question why are they so good and expensive??? the only have 4 or 5 eq so....
@rivpl Because each amp is originally build by marshall by hand, and not in some crappy factory somewhere in japan or something.. and because the jcm series are tube amps.. it gives a way more powefull sound.. if you buy one of them, you'll get a good quality amp... and the mg's arn't bad.. but it's nothing to compare with a marshall tube stack.. just try some amps and hear the difference between a tube amp.. and a solid amp
I'm so glad i sold this shitty amp, it sounds so thin ,even @ high volumes... but if u are happy about it thats all that matters.... (just saying this to the people who think about buying this) no offence ;-)
Step up to a full sized 4x12 cabinet and you'll be much happier. I have a couple of these "economy" sized cabinets. They give a more focused shreddy lead tone but I like a thick bass and deep resonance that kicks the listener in the face.
Had they sold these with full sized cabs, the tube superiority legend would have taken injury.
Sad that they discontinued this head and replaced it with the HFX AKA MG4. HUGE downgrade in features.
I just bought this amp, I really have no idea how to EQ it properly. I'm looking for some metal type sounds, kinda like what you had going on here.
I'm cranking the gain but it sounds so lacking. My multi-effect kind of lacks in boosting it. Am i going to have to buy a boost pedal to get a real good metal sound? Would the fact I have the volume low have anything to do with it? I'd appreciate any good settings too. PLEASE.
I have the new MG4 series halfstack, not this one btw.
@somehornybastard Unfortunately the MG4 series doesn't have the contour control with allows you to get much better metal tones like this amp. I sold my MG4 and went back to this series because I hated the OD2 channel on the MG4's.
It does kind of suck but I did some tweaking to make it sound better. I have a modded Boss MT-2 that made the OD2 shine quite nicely, while it usually sounds quite dark.
@hellboundTX333 I think the MG4's are shit. It's a cut down version of the HDFX, even the power switch they put on them is shit.
My only criticism to the HDFX series is the undersized cabinets. A guy does a video comparing his HDFX half stack to his Marshall Tube halfstack and the HDFX sounds thinner but it's due to the tiny ass cabinet and he has the mid scoop switch engaged.
Kick it out, slap it on a standard sized cab, nobody would know the difference between the chip and tube amp.
@brib333 know something before you speak. The cabinet size for majority of solid state half and double stacks is smaller. They're called economy or compact cabinets and if you see this cabinet next to the standard sized cabs matched with tube heads, it's about 20% SMALLER. This is where the real tone difference comes from, less resonances and less bass. Check the dimensions in any ad ya retard.
Slap a solid state head on a full sized 4x12 cabinet and suddenly there's really no difference.
@brib333 It most certainly does not, how stupid are you pal?
Check any ad online, check the Marshall website.
The MG412A and MG412B are compact cabs 26 inches wide and high.
Then check dozens of other 4x12 cabinets, they'll all be around 30x32, 31x32, 32x32 etc.
If it's a solid state half or full stack, 99% of the time the cabinets will be of a compact design. You're ignorant and shouting WTF, you EARNED the title of retard.
You know your a real fuc in little punk. The measurement on the marshall MG cab the 412b is 29.7" x 30.1" wide and high you stupid mother fer. NO cab is the same
Plus WTF would WANT an OVERSIZE cabinet which IS what a larger cabinet is called! There to BOOMY and SLOPPY!! Most cabs ARE about 30" and 30" tall and wide. Now YOU earned the name RETARD. RETARD.
@brib333 Standard 4x12 cabinets are 30x32.75x14 and sometimes even slightly larger. Compact cabs, such as the MG4 uses, are 26x26x14 and they simply do not sound as good. Not as much bass, resonance depth or volume. The smaller cabinets give a shreddier, grindier, edgier sound and do not bellow as well as the larger cabinets, particularly for leads. They lack the oomphs.
Its a nice practice amp so I kept it, but with a bit of bday money and a raise I managed to get a Randall Warhead and a broken 6505 (now fixed). Both put any Marshall amp to shame, I think the MG's get too much hate though.
for this amp all you need is a guitar cable to hook the cab and head together, just make sure the two are connected when you power on the amp, otherwise your head can get damaged.
im ebayin one right now wish me luck i want this head its not bad for a solid state..even more since i watched this THX....n its cheap....how can u go wrong for a first stack =)
did the haze straight up change your life or what? ive had my eye on that thing for a couple months and it looks sick.. i love the new wave of small low watt tube amps that give you the big boy tone at little guy prices.. though your 40 watter is probly loud as fuck, but the haze is available at 15 watts i believe...
ya its loud as hell and i love it. when i put the volume on one it shakes my whole room. and the 40 watt is a combo amp. and there is a 15 watt one but its a mini stack which means its not as portable and u have to buy the cabs. it also doesnt have as much stuff on it either
Man you just saved my Ass. I couldnt figure out any good settings and my band has been getting pissed at the fuzzy ass settings ive been coming up with. When it comes to the knobs im completely unknowing.
I Agree with asdewqasdfgh people bitch way too much about this amp. Its a great amp, especily for 649.99 brand new and way cheaper if you find a used one..great job with the sound......METALLICA ROCKS!!!!
I have 1 question, i have that same amp, and whenever I plug a pedal into it, i just hear radio signals. y does it do dat, and is there a way to stop it becides using higher quality cables, iv'e already tried dat
pay for the name? the amp is under 500 euro's in holland at this moment, you can't get a better stack for that price.. okey it isn't a tube amp and tube amps are wayy better than this, but not everyone can afford one and this is a good option for little money, and i can get some very nice sounds out it now, but that's my opinion, so in that way.. yes he deserves the thumbs down..it's not a shit amp, he's just a shitty person that cannot think wide enough;)
I'm gonna have to disagree with that statement. I've gotten better tones outta "marshalls worst creation" than the fabled jcm800, which imo can't do much tbh.
HAHAHAHAHAHA... youve OBviously never played a tube amp, let alone a jcm..You have got to be kidding me, they aren't nicknamed the plexis of the 80's for nothing.. not that you know what a plexi is im sure. If you asked any guitarist who had the slightest bit of knowledge of tone they would chose a jcm over an mg in a heartbeat.. Keep learning and studying guitar as your obviously a beginner/novice good luck in the future
Hah, yeah you're right I've never played a tube amp, but I love the terrible solid state tone my VHT Ultra Lead produces (note the sarcasm) If you asked any guitar player with the slightest bit of knowledge, you'd know that those amps you mentioned are unresponsive, sterile, dull, and a marketing gimmick . Keep learning and studying forums, as you've never even tried a decent amplifier, good luck in the future.
P.S I've tried several jcm800s, dsl/tsls plexis, handwired marshalls, all junk.
Just to jump in... you've probably never even owned let alone tried a jcm 800 and you're just going with what everyone else has to say about Marshall Mgs, right?
your partially correct... i dont own a jcm 800, but i have played them. i have a plexi re-issue which is kind of like a jcm without the master volume. all tube.. marshall.. hottness....
i traded it for an orange tiny terror and i thought i made a mistake when i got it home because it is soooo loud..
i use a oridinary jack to jack plug.. and then i have a small thing that goes from jack tot some kind of little plug.. i dont know how to call it, but if you ask it in a hardware store or something they should know. and their cost like 1,50 euro for me
yeah, digital cameras suck out your low end, that's why most of these videos on youtube sound like crap; mic the cab and it sounds MUCH better.
I have this amp & get great tones with it - my settings are: bass -maxed out, mids & treble at 11 o'clock, gain between 9 and 12 o'clock, whatever you need(but not more than 12 noon, then it just adds noise and gets mushy), contour about 2 o'clock, but you can play with this one abit, reverb 9:30, effects off...
When you crank this amp do you get much feedback...well even at lower levels I have a Ibanez TBX150R Tone Blaster Xtreme Guitar Combo Amp and it has alllllloooooooot of feedback and i hate feedback more than anything..and i was wondering would you prefer this much over that amp im thinking about getting this.
even with the gain full open.. and at a louder volume, i dont have much feedback at all =) but why do you hate it so much?.. a little feedback can hurt no man.. on stage it's pretty cool to play a little with it;)
if your getting alot of feedback, make sure your not near running electronics, like lights, computer screens ect. if that doesnt seem to work, get a noise suppressor..
MOst deffinately, as said before ( and the super cool guy can thumbs down me again) , solid state amps don't need to br cranked, thats not what they were designed for.
ya i agree with the first setting...but it cud be ur guitar...i dont no wut kind of guitar u r playing wit but on that first setting it sounded like a 100 dollar guitar and a 10 or 15 watta mp! lol and it also sounded lit the position switch was between the mid pick-up and the neck...and it didnt go well wit th distortion...thats all i hav to say about it..but other than that first setting the sound and ur playing was pretty good
i know the first setting sounds a bit crappy.. but it isn't my guitar.. it's a 600 euro ibanez... and please read the discription : the sound quality of my cam is really bad.. and i think it couldn't handel the bass.. and i think i set the treble to high.. but in real life the setting sounds pretty cool... but that's my opinion.. at least don't blame my guitar.. blame my camera =) lol.. anyway thanks for the comment
Did you try it on your own mg? because i agree that the sound of the first setting sucks... but in the discription of this video i explained the bad sound quality of my cam.. i think the setting sounds pretty awsome from the amp itselve..
mg's arn't the best.. but if you want a good powerfull metal amp.. i think this is one of the best you can get for this price.. and i looked for a nice tube amp for about 600 euros.. but the one's i played on sucked pretty hard.. So don't hate mg's.. and tube ambs are better.. but you must have the money for it.. if you want a decent one.. but hey.. that's my opinion.. sorry for my english
Dude the best settings are the ones YOU create. By your own ear. Dont be affraid of playing around with it. Just let it ROCK!!! Just what ANY Marshall is made for.
I made the decision on this amp a few days ago after researching almost every amp in this price range. Needless to say I pick the amp up tonight , can't wait!
get it! it's the best you can get for this money.. And yes i think this amp is gigable.. it's pretty powerfull and the sound is only getting better the louder you play;)
good stuff sir! i just bought this amp (partially as a result of watching your video and videos comparative to yours) and it's wonderful! i can't believe anyone would knock this amp.
Mine is a 2007 and for almost 5 years I have been using It side by side with a 1981 Marshall JCM 800 and it's been perfect together!

ZakkHendrix666 2 years ago
does the footswitch come with it?
metalicaman100 2 years ago
yeah it comes with a footswitch. the footswitch is about the most valuable part of this shit amp too.
Novantii 2 years ago
dude i agree. you dont deserve those thumbs down. It is by far marshalls worst creation and obviously you pay for the name.
plummustangs 2 years ago
pay for the name? the amp is under 500 euro's in holland at this moment, you can't get a better stack for that price.. okey it isn't a tube amp and tube amps are wayy better than this, but not everyone can afford one and this is a good option for little money, and i can get some very nice sounds out it now, but that's my opinion, so in that way.. yes he deserves the thumbs down..it's not a shit amp, he's just a shitty person that cannot think wide enough;)
omarliew 2 years ago
whatever dude but for the money you could get wayyyyyyyy better
plummustangs 2 years ago
I'm gonna have to disagree with that statement. I've gotten better tones outta "marshalls worst creation" than the fabled jcm800, which imo can't do much tbh.
krankank 2 years ago 2
HAHAHAHAHAHA... youve OBviously never played a tube amp, let alone a jcm..You have got to be kidding me, they aren't nicknamed the plexis of the 80's for nothing.. not that you know what a plexi is im sure. If you asked any guitarist who had the slightest bit of knowledge of tone they would chose a jcm over an mg in a heartbeat.. Keep learning and studying guitar as your obviously a beginner/novice good luck in the future
plummustangs 2 years ago
Hah, yeah you're right I've never played a tube amp, but I love the terrible solid state tone my VHT Ultra Lead produces (note the sarcasm) If you asked any guitar player with the slightest bit of knowledge, you'd know that those amps you mentioned are unresponsive, sterile, dull, and a marketing gimmick . Keep learning and studying forums, as you've never even tried a decent amplifier, good luck in the future.
P.S I've tried several jcm800s, dsl/tsls plexis, handwired marshalls, all junk.
krankank 2 years ago
just to jump in... you know that your opinion is so in the minority as to be unmeasurable right?
?
jakefortwice 2 years ago
Just to jump in... you've probably never even owned let alone tried a jcm 800 and you're just going with what everyone else has to say about Marshall Mgs, right?
?
krankank 2 years ago
your partially correct... i dont own a jcm 800, but i have played them. i have a plexi re-issue which is kind of like a jcm without the master volume. all tube.. marshall.. hottness....
i traded it for an orange tiny terror and i thought i made a mistake when i got it home because it is soooo loud..
thank god for attenuators..peace.
jakefortwice 2 years ago
Thats cool, whatever works for you, man. I'm just not a marshall guy lol
krankank 2 years ago
Ofcourse the JCM is better, but more expensive too

@plummustangs
Ya well try putting a Seymour Duncan AHB-2 in your guitar THEN play it. Sounds amazing. The harmonics are great.

whats the adapter called where you can connect the amp to the computer like little plug that goes into the mic adapter onto ur comp
PunkRocka25 2 years ago
i use a oridinary jack to jack plug.. and then i have a small thing that goes from jack tot some kind of little plug.. i dont know how to call it, but if you ask it in a hardware store or something they should know. and their cost like 1,50 euro for me
omarliew 2 years ago
yeah, digital cameras suck out your low end, that's why most of these videos on youtube sound like crap; mic the cab and it sounds MUCH better.
I have this amp & get great tones with it - my settings are: bass -maxed out, mids & treble at 11 o'clock, gain between 9 and 12 o'clock, whatever you need(but not more than 12 noon, then it just adds noise and gets mushy), contour about 2 o'clock, but you can play with this one abit, reverb 9:30, effects off...
try it out and see what you think!
tony93666 2 years ago
When you crank this amp do you get much feedback...well even at lower levels I have a Ibanez TBX150R Tone Blaster Xtreme Guitar Combo Amp and it has alllllloooooooot of feedback and i hate feedback more than anything..and i was wondering would you prefer this much over that amp im thinking about getting this.
nathanwilliams15 2 years ago
even with the gain full open.. and at a louder volume, i dont have much feedback at all =) but why do you hate it so much?.. a little feedback can hurt no man.. on stage it's pretty cool to play a little with it;)
omarliew 2 years ago
Thanks im gonna go hear it sometime soon and then i will save up the money if i like it......most likely will have one i the next month
nathanwilliams15 2 years ago
if your getting alot of feedback, make sure your not near running electronics, like lights, computer screens ect. if that doesnt seem to work, get a noise suppressor..
demondude4444 2 years ago 3
im getting one but i live in a crwoded house with neighors XD
i was wondering if you can put this amp quiet and still get a good sound? thanks
XxinvadeXtradeXx 2 years ago
Invadextrade, its a solid state amp, you don't need to crank it to get a decent sound outta it.
krankank 2 years ago
but how low can it go!?
low enough to not get the neighbors pissed off!?
XxinvadeXtradeXx 2 years ago
MOst deffinately, as said before ( and the super cool guy can thumbs down me again) , solid state amps don't need to br cranked, thats not what they were designed for.
krankank 2 years ago
dude, master of puppets sounded so BADASS!!
ComputerGeek27 2 years ago
ya i agree with the first setting...but it cud be ur guitar...i dont no wut kind of guitar u r playing wit but on that first setting it sounded like a 100 dollar guitar and a 10 or 15 watta mp! lol and it also sounded lit the position switch was between the mid pick-up and the neck...and it didnt go well wit th distortion...thats all i hav to say about it..but other than that first setting the sound and ur playing was pretty good
dylanbuchanan94 2 years ago
i know the first setting sounds a bit crappy.. but it isn't my guitar.. it's a 600 euro ibanez... and please read the discription : the sound quality of my cam is really bad.. and i think it couldn't handel the bass.. and i think i set the treble to high.. but in real life the setting sounds pretty cool... but that's my opinion.. at least don't blame my guitar.. blame my camera =) lol.. anyway thanks for the comment
omarliew 2 years ago
very ugly first sound :s
MauroArzu 2 years ago
Did you try it on your own mg? because i agree that the sound of the first setting sucks... but in the discription of this video i explained the bad sound quality of my cam.. i think the setting sounds pretty awsome from the amp itselve..
omarliew 2 years ago
it could be possible, because the first sound is such "treble" and "presence" without any power like more Bass or something...
:D do you sell you mg? :p
MauroArzu 2 years ago
ghehe nope... just bought it like.. 2 month's ago ;)
omarliew 2 years ago
Can i make mg100 sound like tube amp , but with fdd on and an eq pedal ? Thanks
vidzaratm 2 years ago
For that same price you can get a decent TUBE combo and sound loads better. MG's are horrible
1337donkeys8ter 2 years ago
thanks dude ! cheers
vidzaratm 2 years ago
mg's arn't the best.. but if you want a good powerfull metal amp.. i think this is one of the best you can get for this price.. and i looked for a nice tube amp for about 600 euros.. but the one's i played on sucked pretty hard.. So don't hate mg's.. and tube ambs are better.. but you must have the money for it.. if you want a decent one.. but hey.. that's my opinion.. sorry for my english
omarliew 2 years ago
thx man i was looking for nice settings for my amp and there right in your video
skate14board 2 years ago
Dude the best settings are the ones YOU create. By your own ear. Dont be affraid of playing around with it. Just let it ROCK!!! Just what ANY Marshall is made for.

Emokatsito 2 years ago
get it! it's the best you can get for this money.. And yes i think this amp is gigable.. it's pretty powerfull and the sound is only getting better the louder you play;)
omarliew 2 years ago
