Why don't they make laptops "open-friendly"? I don't want to waste over 100 bucks only to get the dust removed. Thanks for the video! Hope my sr59 opens the same.
dude do you know where I can a new serial ATA connector for my SR? my SR crashed a week ago and it won't recognize any HDD unless I constantly apply force to the hard drive (squeezing the HDD into the laptop) or even weirder I'll hold the vaio itself vertically, and let the HDD sit upright in my hand (while it's connected; think of an "L" shaped situation). I'm no computer tech whatsoever, do u have any idea what might be wrong with my SR?

@davidSYcho besides replacing the thermal paste, this computer is rock solid. I had also upgraded the hard drive an ram shortly after buying it so I cannot speak to the reliability of the hard drive. Those should be replaced every 2-3 years as a proactive measure.
@simplelifedream This laptop seems pretty solid. I came from an HP which felt like the entire thing was flexing when I would pick it up by one corner.
Sorry, I did not take a temperature reading before and after. The difference is big because my hand would get burnt if I touched the bottom of the computer prior to applying the AS5. However, most of the improvement is attributed to replacing the failed factory thermal compound.
Yeah, it used to get very hot, to the point where it would burn my hand if I touched the computer. The fan would also be running non-stop. Now no more issues.
If you are familiar with thermal grease, you can use the video above to disassemble the computer. Disconnect the fan and unscrew the heatsink assembly. Use artic silver thermal grease cleaner and surface prep, then apply some artic silver 5 or equivalent. Carefully reinstall the heatsink, plug in the fan, and reassemble.

Thank you for sharing ! Although my laptop is from Sony but not the same version (VGN FW304), I can disassemble to clean out the heat sink and fan :)

Hey could you just show how to remove the keyboard? I looked for it quite long but could not find a video showing a keyboard disassembly... thanks

Since the bottom cover comes off, I would assume you would need to remove the motherboard before you would be able to reach the keyboard.

This color was available a year ago as I have an older model. Not sure what Sony's current offerings are.
