Yes...Mr Merrick was always uncertain about where he was to live(even as they told him his permanent home was at the hosp), which was also part of him asking if he could be sent to an asylum for the blind in the hope a woman might fall in love with him - & in my opinion it shows that by then he'd had enough of being looked at
