hi schehf i'm learning to use cubase.....i have a question, when u record, for example, the first guitar do you use to play a singol riff and then paste and copy....like a loop....to make the riff's song always the same...or play the entire song with no pause? Thank you!
i have ux2 as well just bought the metal shop and it is very nice but how do u get it to where u cant hear when im sweeping playing metal. i can hear it and it dosn't sound right,is there a way to get it sounding where u hear just the recorded guitar and not the sound when my pic makes contact with the strings?
hey again, do you do anything special to record the sound? because I dont think the sound of the distortions are getting natural... I record it and they not sound like yours... Im also afraid that it could be from my pickups but maybe not.
The sound I listen it's better than the record... the recording program its important due to the sound quality record?
yeah, pickups are important too, but the thing why Schehf's videos sound so good, is because he's an audio engineer, he can make professional sounding stuff at home.
Hi, finde deine Videos einfach wahnsinn!
Hi, I really like your videos a lot. You are really great.
And 1 question.
I use Cubase, with amplitube, it worked for a long time, but when i use it on insert now, it doesn't change the sound anymore. The program just opens. It doesn't show anything on the input. Do you have an idea what's wrong?
First of all, I love your work. You have one hell of a studio going there.Expensive but worthwhile. Second, Is this a hobby for you? Or your profession?
very nice. what plugins do you use on the drums to get it to sound so tight? and also, could you maybe upload a sample, mp3 file you made using that setup and upload it somewhere so i can get a grip of the quality, cause i'm bying a toneport soon =) youtube sound quality aint the greatest
mein recording equip sieht ca genauso aus aber eine frage zu gearbox: wenn ich bass aufnehme dann dröhnt das bei mir immer =( würde gern ma wissen was da bei deinen vids für einstellungen für den bass sind (also in gearbox)
hey dude, great vids, keep it up! I just have a question about EZDrummer, where did you purchase yours and how much was it? I can't seem to find it. Thanks
Hello there :)! i just bought myself a toneport ux 2 and have cubase to but i experience like one second delay in cubase when i play my guitar have u had the same problem i know about the latency problem but since u can record without problems in cubase i think i should be abel to do it myself =/ tho it works if i mute the sound in cubase and only hear the sound from gearbox while recording there's no delay :S U have any tip
You only can use the monitor function in cubase with another soundcard. The toneport has over 33 ms latency. Only use the normal gearbox sound and record. If you are recording with another but good soundcard (like RME...) you won't hear latency.
Question for ya Schehf....with Adobe Premiere can you record your videos on a timeline in sync with the song, or do you just record the video parts individually and sync them manually? Caus I must say... I just did a video and it was hell at times to try and sync individual recordings with the audio.
Hmm to be more specific, I meant when you record the video, is it syncing to the timeline, or do you go in later and move the video manually so the movements in the video match the audio? For example, I recorded a song, and then later started recording audio for it. However, every time I recorded audio, it was a file I'd not only have to input into the video software, but I'd also have to find through a tedious process where that video would have to be placed on the timeline.
We in the school pc we are useful. Premiere Pro 2.0 we cut the videos. The data of the machines of the school the next ones : 1Terra HDD , 2 GB DDR2 , CPU only so much I know about the fact that he is 2 core and INTEL...
Is there any way to change the drummaps for EZDrummer? I'd like to make my drums with Guitar Pro and then import the midi in Cubase and one of the Crash Cymbals becomes a Hi-Hat every time...
Oh, and when I import midis, the volume seems to be on it's maximum before it's even loud...could you help me with that?
The first one: No, but you can select all that hits by pressing CTRL on the piano view in the midi editor and drag it to the right position. The seond one: is a matter of the midi file sysex Data. In there the one who created the midi file, can set Volume, programmchange and so on. You have to open the midi file and erase all that. It is beneath the midi notes in the editor, where you adjust the velocity. You can set the parameters for other things and delete them.
Hi Schehf! Since you programm the drum tracks I wanted to ask how do you program tracks for different in flames songs? Are you just using your ears and then making a track through EZ drummer or you just look at the Guitar pro drum file and then make a drum track? Thanks.
which program are you using to program the drums? because i see that around 0:40 you start marking where you want each part sound, like you would do in fruityloops... but i know that ain't fruityloops... so please, which program are you using?
damn, sorry for that haha, should've seen it coming. how do i get into the drums edition screen? because the only thing i can do i just set a channel to use the drums... but i can't get to edit it... please?
So..Do you actually master the whole song out of cubase or single tracks with a bit different mastering and then mix them again? Do you use EQ:s for the track and how about compression or so? Even though I've tried to play with your patches the quitar sound is not quite the same. (Well x3 has a bit different sound but anyways :) ) And any vst effects for quitars in cubase?
I record all the tracks (guitars, bass, drums) in Cubase, put vst plugins (Eqs and compressors) on them. On the guitar only a EQ, just a little High Cut. Most effects on the drums.
And then mix the whole thing.
When it is done. I bounce it to one stereo file and master that.
hey im going to buy Line 6 TonePort GX , cause thats the only one in my budget right now , i want to only record guitars right now , also if i record guitars what file will it be saved on , i want to know if it saves in mp3 so that i can mix both later
schehf, what tone port do you recommend? I know theres a few out there. I'm interested in getting one, but I dont want to get something too lowrate that I'll have to upgrade soon
When you say guitar, does that include bass aswell? Sorry for all the questions..How much (roughly) did yours cost? It seems to have the components I'm looking for, though 2 mics doesnt really seem to be my concern
When I import the drum midi track (from Guitar pro) into Reaper (my daw), the dynamics seems to change for some reason. I need to raise the volume a lot to fix this. How do you it?
hey, for some reason i can't get cubase to record my guitar, but it can record on Ableton Live. i even have my computer sounds coming out of my toneport ux2 but cubase can't record my guitar..maybe you can help?
Could you possibly explain to me what drum machine you use and how it works? Do I actually have to own any kind of drum set? Or is it just all programmed?
Can I ask you about the monitors you use? BTW I really enjoy your videos. I also have a toneport it's really good but I rarely record cause I'm so lazy :)
ya sorry about that, but you have an accent and sometimes it's hard to understand.
so, on the toneport, can you use drum presets or something? I was talking to someone else on the net and he made a bunch of songs all from a line 6 toneport including drums but he didn't give me much detail
hi! hast du eigentlich das Videobearbeitungsprogramm gekauft oder irgendwo heruntergeladen? den das programm das du benutzt kostet richtig viel!!

I don't gearbox from line6 works outside of cubase.
Guitar rig is a VST plugin.
Just put it in the insert of an audio track
and your clean recorded or monitored guitar
sound will change like you edit it in the
guitar rig software.

Metalfan757 3 years ago
Of course I have to sync all the videos to the audio.
All of them.
But I don't film parts.
Only through the whole song.
So I have to sync every perspective only once.
All manually.
I don't have the movie equipment to get a

Question for ya Schehf....with Adobe Premiere can you record your videos on a timeline in sync with the song, or do you just record the video parts individually and sync them manually? do you use vista?
if so, is there a reason you chose windows of mac?

lespaul2223 3 years ago
No Vista sucks at recording cause it uses to much RAM. And the old Cubase SX3 didn't support Vista. The new Cubase 4.1 is vista compatible.
We tried a mac and used Logic.
But it has no advantage for us. It is only expensive.
So I am using a windows pc.
When you are using pro tools you need a mac, otherwise there is no need.

LabourUnion08 3 years ago
On the oldest ones I programmed them myself like I thought it should be.
Then I used some drumtracks from gp files, but adjusted them, cause most of them had
wrong parts in them.
But on the last ones, since ASOP, I import the
original audio file, syncronize it with cubase
and programm the drums part by part as exact as I can.
schehf 3 years ago

Create a midi track, send it to your vst drum programm. Take the pen, paint an event in the midi track, double click it, and paint your drumhits.

schehf 4 years ago
Hey schehf, I have a some questions about mixing.
What are the volumes you use for your tracks (drums, bass, guitar)?
For guitars I usually have them at 6-7 db's and my music sounds very weak.
When you double the guitars, do you just duplicate the track or actually record it again?
Cheers from US/Mexico
raybaro 4 years ago
You can't say what volumes every track is. Cause that is always different. Every song is different. It's just a matter of taste and hearing.
When you duplicate a Mono track and pan them Left and right, you will get mono sound too, only 3 db louder.
The Stereo effect comes from recording the same thing twice. Cause you play very little differences and your ears can hear that.
Try it out.
schehf 4 years ago
Thank you, I will give it a try. I usually duplicate the track and never do it twice. I will try it today
raybaro 4 years ago
Again, duplicating does nothing with the sound.
Only makes it louder.
Except you move one a little bit.
schehf 4 years ago
Do you keep the same settings for the guitar or do you make a whole different one to double it?
raybaro 4 years ago
So..Do you actually master the whole song out of cubase or single tracks with a bit different mastering and then mix them again? Do you use EQ:s for the track and how about compression or so? Even though I've tried to play with your patches the quitar sound is not quite the same. (Well x3 has a bit different sound but anyways :) ) And any vst effects for quitars in cubase?
Reflectivv 4 years ago
I record all the tracks (guitars, bass, drums) in Cubase, put vst plugins (Eqs and compressors) on them. On the guitar only a EQ, just a little High Cut. Most effects on the drums.
And then mix the whole thing.
When it is done. I bounce it to one stereo file and master that.
The sound of the patch course differs when you
use another guitar or strings.
schehf 4 years ago
Yep ok thanks :)
Reflectivv 4 years ago
hey im going to buy Line 6 TonePort GX , cause thats the only one in my budget right now , i want to only record guitars right now , also if i record guitars what file will it be saved on , i want to know if it saves in mp3 so that i can mix both later
chatrasalsingh1989 4 years ago
Saved File?
You play with your guitar in the Toneport
and the sound is via Asio Driver played in your recording software. In that recording software you choose in what format the sound will be stored.
In my case it is cubase and I record only in wav, cause it is uncompressed and better to work with.
schehf 4 years ago
IS that cubase hard to use?
blahman178 4 years ago
Like every software, you have to get used to it. I don't find it that hard.
schehf 4 years ago
sorry but how do u make for the distortion sounds good in the recording?
EviLinaCloset91 4 years ago
The sound comes from the toneport.
After the recording I do nothing with guitar sound.
schehf 4 years ago
Hi why program you use to record the guitars?
EviLinaCloset91 4 years ago

schehf, what tone port do you recommend? I know theres a few out there. I'm interested in getting one, but I dont want to get something too lowrate that I'll have to upgrade soon
Apothis 4 years ago
Software is all the same, there are just hardware differences:
GX: only guitar
ux1: guitar, one mic
ux2: guitar, two mics
ux8: guitar, eight mics
kb37: guitar, keyboard, two mics.
schehf 4 years ago
When you say guitar, does that include bass aswell? Sorry for all the questions..How much (roughly) did yours cost? It seems to have the components I'm looking for, though 2 mics doesnt really seem to be my concern
Apothis 4 years ago
Yes bass too. All you plug in as an instrument.
Mine cost 200 $.

schehf, I've seen this video many times and all I could say is thanks. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.
1. When you use GuitarPro for drum tracks do you export them as midi and just drag them to the track in the DAW?
2. When you were talking in your video about drums you said something about using many plugins. Where you talking about plugins in EZDrummer?
raybaro 4 years ago
Btw, have you tried the POD X3, I just bought one and it is great. The dual tone is awesome but can be a pain.
Thanks for taking the time and have a good one.
raybaro 4 years ago
Nope.
I tried the Vetta II once.
I wasn't very impressed.
Sounded not better than my toneport.
Nothing for live sound for me.
schehf 4 years ago
I have not tried the Vetta, for live they have the Pod X3 Live but it has many bugs though that will hopefully get resolved with the update.
I want to try the new Spider Valve
raybaro 4 years ago
1. export from guitar pro, import in cubase.
2. No, plugins on the ezdrummer, not in.
I use Compressors and eqs on the individual tracks of the ezdrummer.
schehf 4 years ago
2. Do you mean eq's for ind. tracks as one for kick, snare, toms etc etc.
raybaro 4 years ago
Yep.
schehf 4 years ago
Thanks for the info
one last question if you don't mind.
When I import the drum midi track (from Guitar pro) into Reaper (my daw), the dynamics seems to change for some reason. I need to raise the volume a lot to fix this. How do you it?
Sorry for all the questions
raybaro 4 years ago
It can be that the one who created the Guitarpro file has done some midi volume changes and something like that.
But I never had that in a drumtrack, only in
synth tracks.
schehf 4 years ago
Did you record two rhythm guitar tracks, why?Like your videos.Peace.
TravelerNTime 4 years ago
It's a common technique in rock music recording.
To get a deeper stereo sound.
You record the rhythm twice.
Pan one to the left and one to the right.
Watch my newest videos then you can hear what I mean. Cause they are in stereo.
You can hear both guitars.

Nice;) thanks:)

VERY CLEVER. NICE.

to triplexcel
I had the same troubles with cubase. i fixed it by going into the devices tab
then device setup
then in the little side menu you should see VST audio bay
click on that, and change ASIO multimedia driver or whatever, to ASIO TonePort UX2
it worked for me, hope it works for you :)
wildchild730 4 years ago
hey, for some reason i can't get cubase to record my guitar, but it can record on Ableton Live. i even have my computer sounds coming out of my toneport ux2 but cubase can't record my guitar..maybe you can help?
thanks

would like to know more about the video codec, file size and format that you upload to youtube. your videos are loading and streaming nice and quick
asnowmonkey 4 years ago
No No, every video on youtube streams the same,
cause when you upload your video it will always be converted to a Flash Video, specified format, I don't know, Mono.
In the past I uploaded Mpeg2 DVD files, cause I used them at home too.
But now I upload Flash Video files already, cause they are smaller and uploading is faster.

Could you possibly explain to me what drum machine you use and how it works? Do I actually have to own any kind of drum set? Or is it just all programmed?
BedofRazors5464 4 years ago
Oh and one more thing. When mastering a track how do you raise volume without distorting the sound?
caltrof 4 years ago
I'm using the loudness VST PlugIn
Waves L3 Ultramizer.
Great Loudness without distortion.
schehf 4 years ago
what programmes does it work with?
screamokill 4 years ago
It's a VST PlugIn.
You can use with every Host Application
which supports VST.
schehf 4 years ago
Can I ask you about the monitors you use? BTW I really enjoy your videos. I also have a toneport it's really good but I rarely record cause I'm so lazy :)
caltrof 4 years ago
These are Yamaha NS 10. I like them.
They have a little less low frequencies
but are perfect for mixing.

Ich versteh den Namen nich genau vom Videobearbeitungsprogramm...Wie heißt des genau? Adobe... ?

I want to get a line 6 toneport but is that all I need to make good songs?
or do I need to buy other programs?
fender101punk 4 years ago
I thought I described this in these two videos:
For the guitar sound I only use the Toneport.
Ableton live is included for recording,
but I use something else. (Cubase SX 3.11)
For Drums you need a VST Instrument or a Sampler and the samples.
And for a good mix you need VST PlugIns.
schehf 4 years ago
ya sorry about that, but you have an accent and sometimes it's hard to understand.
so, on the toneport, can you use drum presets or something? I was talking to someone else on the net and he made a bunch of songs all from a line 6 toneport including drums but he didn't give me much detail
fender101punk 4 years ago
Genious...I think I think that was very helpfull ^^ Thx

This video is awesome!!
I am also currently studying at SAE in Australia.
i was wondering what the name of the song which you are playing is. And what tuning you use.
bluie3 4 years ago
I used dropped A# Tuning.
Thats just improvised to show recording.
schehf 4 years ago
It was very impressive to see how you work with this stuff! You mentioned that you used some plug-ins so therefore I wonder what plug-ins? :)
