I enjoyed the video but I dont understand the purpose? i.e. my friends wil have to wear 3D glasses to real the benefits of the image if I have it hanging on my wall?
hello sir, i have made red and cyan 3d glasses but its not working on 3d picture and video.... i want to know the reason why its happening to me.... plz explain me..and let me know how i can correct this mistake
When u are taking the 2 pictures, are u always pointing the subject of interest in both or u are just shifting the cam (and pointing a new different point)? looks like a stupid question but moving from close views to panorama, the difference could be huge.
This is great! I've been taking stereo/3D images for years but digital stereo cameras aren't affordable, yet. It's cheaper to tape two cameras together and hit the buttons at once. This is a great tutorial. Programs that automatically do the work just guess at alignment - and fail. Sure, this is a little work but you can get awful darn accurate. The thing to keep in mind is that it takes practice to shoot the pictures that'll work. The shortcuts out there give passable results. Passable stinks!
I liked the video but I was wondering if you could do this with a video making program like windows movie maker? if you find out or know how please send me a how to video on how to do it at now2407. thanks!
Just one problem when I set it to auto contrast, it goes lighter not darker. and when i paste the second pic to the first pic, it becomes purple and green not red and blue
You can get a better result if you keep the red and blue areas closer together. If a white object is split up into a blue and red bar (see window in the back) make sure both colors touch. And it will be more pleasant to the eye. Even a small red and blue shift will produce a very realistic 3D effect. Actually, it will be more realistic then when the red and blue are far apart.

Works brilliantly. Didn't realise this was so easy. Also, I jumped straight to colour, without the greyscale practice run, and it looked good. Thanks for the tips!
why not just convert the right side to rgb and copy the left and paste into the right red channel and the nudge the red...then you're only working in the one channel. still does the same thing.
@CrisAndAirTwins Go watch Avatar in 3D you GET a FREE pair of NEW 3D glasses! I paid $10 for the movie. But this video was not useful for what I am researching. But it is a good video for stereo images.

omg... its not a real 3d if the picture is same. you have to shoot if from 2 different angles equals to the human eyes (not farrer not closer) and make this 3d... 3d is not what you think and i hard beleave you never seen a 3d picture
this makes up for not having 2 cameras by duplicating the image so you have two images. then using the glases each image cancels out the other one and as such your eyes can see depth
what's even cooler is if you just take one or two things and make those 3d with the other things just normal! i did that with a picture of kristen stewart =D also i think somewhere there is a '3d effects' button in cs3. that's what i have! happy easter!
There's an easier way to do this, Adobe After Effects CS4 comes with a "3D Glasses" feature, and it takes like 5 seconds to make a 3D Image, and you can make a 3D video too, but sometimes it's fun to do it this way too...
Those are some nice glasses =]. This was really helpful, but yours still seemed to come out better... oh well maybe when i mess around with it some more they will get better. Thanks for making this though!
im doing a photography project at college and i decided to jazz it up and make 3D images for each picture instead of flat boring ones. this tutorial has really helped me and i would just like to thank you :) as i had no idea how to make 3D images until i saw this
Your anaglyphs will come out much, much better if you use a tripod and some sort of device to slide the camera horizontally. I made one out of a bar clamp like those that you squeeze the handle. It already had a hole in the end to bolt right to my tripod and the sliding portion also has a hole to run a bolt through. To slide it, I just hold the "release" button in. You should know - the "bar" of the clamp is laid flat on the top of the tripod. No holes to drill or anything.
I'm really annoyed because i am trying to get the anaglyph look (a vibrant red that is transparent over a vibrant cyan). The only thing is the darned object is a solid color (think a single alphabet character). Any ideas? Great tutorial though for photos! :)
Thanks Robert, this video tutorial is a lot easier to follow than many of the steps which are just written down on other sites. I followed your instructions and I have been extremely pleased with the anaglyphs produced myself. Jimmyopee
great video. Exactly what I was looking for. Too bad my 3D glasses are on their way. Is there a way to make polarized 3D images on photoshop or do you have to have a silver screen?
just a tip: when you move the camera to take the second picture, don't change the angle of the camera. by centering the rose, you rotated the second image slightly. the second picture should be taken by sliding 2 inches perfectly horizontally with no rotation. i'm a 3D artist myself so I know all the tricks. also, it's faster to just paste the red channel from the left eye into the red channel of the right. i learned all the hot keys and make 3D images in less then 3 seconds.
Except that your left eye and right eye are independent of each other so they rotate axis toward the viewed object. In a distant object there will be almost no difference in their rotation, but in a close-up your right eye will be rotated more to the left and vice-versa. Try some 3D shots of close-up subjects with and without a slight rotation and see the difference. The background will be less clear if you do a slight rotation, but the close-up (foreground) objects will be much better.
i took 2 screenshots from a game.slightly angled :)
