The 10 things i miss most about the old days : 1. Terraces 2. Muddy pitches 3. Stanchions 4. Black & white boots 5. Neat looking kits 6. Proper nicknames 7. Player loyalty 8. Entertaining pundits 9. Long haired mavericks
Essentially Shanklys and Revies last game, the Wembley showpiece, roughly nine years after they faced off in the 1965 FA Cup Final, albeit this time with Revie sat in the stand as Englands new manager, and Clough taking his place as Leeds manager (though all he really managed at Leeds was his own sacking).
With Bill Nicholson leaving Spurs the same summer, it was the end of an era in English football.
'HitMeQuicks's comment deserves praise. I'm no Liverpool fan but from what I've read Shankly was prone to playing games of brinksmanship with the board at Anfield. Offering his resignation knowing full well it would be refused and getting concessions (more money for players?) into the bargain. He evidently called their bluff once too often and was told to bugger off by the directors who believed they had a suitable replacement in Paisley. They were proved right.
@tsangpogorge. Not true. I was only a hooligan in the 1970s. If I saw a black fan I would still give him a good kicking but not for the colour of his skin. Get yer facts right you CUNT.
As Emlyn Hughes is about to collect the trophy, Barry Davies has some rather robust advice for one of the dignitaries, telling Ted Croker to "stay on your arse." Very sensible really, given Ted's dodgy knees.
This was typical of Barry. Who can forget him asking Alan Hansen to "wipe that fucking grin off your face you scotch cunt" as he lifted the FA cup in '86. Great days.
