Hi Wilson - do you have any more sea scape lessons to watch? I'm really not getting anywhere with the Bob Ross Lessons. His waves are always the same whether they break left or right, it's the same technique. Do you have any more vids uploaded on YT? Thanks
I'm planning on filming some more lessons in the not too distant future. Currently, I don't have any more that feature seascapes or wave movements, other than the "Ocean Wave" clip I posted last year.
@wilsonbickford That'll be great! I'll look for them in the future then. In the mean time, I'll just keep practicing the one clip you have called...Ocean Wave. When you flicked that thinned down fan brush that was loaded with Titanium White and thinner and made the "spray", that just made my whole day!!! It makes the wave look very realistic. Thanks! I'm going to just practice your wave then in the mean time. Thanks for replying and have a great weekend!
@oceansdoor That spattering technique is a great one to know about. It gives the wave a lot of movement! I also use that approach for many other things, using different colors. Stars in the sky, texture/flowers in a meadow, gravel on a road, falling snow, all kinds of things.
@partoboy I have a Dvd, titled " A Four Color Landscape", which is available on my website. It features a snow-capped mountain scene in winter. However, there are several videos by other artists posted on YT, which demonstrate this type of technique. I'm sure you'll find them in a "search" for it.
i was wondeering for oil paints if you need to use paint thinner? m just starting out im i am very interested in painting, i was wondering because i went out and got an easel and a few acnvases and i was going to start painting tomorrow but we dont have paint thinner at this moment. is there and other solutions for it or suvstitutes for it. also is there any recomendations for it im kinda tight on money please respond thank you. =[)
Well, you'll definitely need some thinner to clean you brushes ( as well as for thinning your paints ) However, you don't have to get the expensive type from the art supply store. Go to the hardware store and get 100% Mineral Spirits.( preferrably "odorless" ) It'll do the same thing and costs less than the art store brands.
mr.wil can you show us how did you work with those mountains??i mean the shady effect??like the white shadow... like fog/..i cant get it right.. i always i messed up with those shadow white..
The key to getting "light and shadow" on the mountain is using enough contrast. Very light on the sunlit side and noticeably darker on the shadow side. Use a warm color on the light side ( white and just a hint of yellow or orange ) and a cooler color on the shadowed side ( white with blue and/or a little purple )
The fog is attained by blending out the bottom of the mountain into the wet white basecoat which was applied to the canvas initially.
Hi am Mir, Wilson, i enjoy watch your video on you tube. I ask about a night time paint on a acrylic. i want to if you had doen a beach painting at night? and a show and tell for you tube ?
I have no talent of my own, just a technique painter, and I have so appreciated your free videos. In fact, have learned more from your free ones than many I have paid for. Thank you so much for your generous spirit. And...I really like your use of natural color rather than many who make whole paintings blue or purple. I guess I lean toward realism. Anyway, thanks.
Wilson, I would also like to thank you for your help. . I originally started painting because of Bob Ross. Although I think Bob was great, your explanation of some techniques has helped me so much with my problem areas. Thank you very much
Sir I would appreciate if you could kindly let me know what colors can be mixed to create golden / metallic color in oil painting. Something to highlight jewellary or ornaments in a painting.
Try using Titanium White mixed with a little Cadmium Yellow Pale for the brightest highlighted areas. If this is too strong, tone it down using a touch of Raw Sienna, but keep the highlights bright and glaring. For the darker , shadowed gold areas, add more raw sienna to the mixture.
Hi ! I have gone through a couple of your videos and they are amazing and have helped a lot. I wanna a learn other techniques as well and I'm interested in portraits. Since I'm from India its not possible for me to take your classes. Kindly suggest how do I go about with this.
I don't currently have any videos featuring portraiture. But, there are many available. I would recommend that you look for books and videos by Helen Van Wyk. She has many lessons featuring portraits ( as well as still life, florals and landscapes ) and I learned a great deal from her.
Thank you so much....I wasn't actually expecting such a prompt response...thanks again...I'll check out for those books...at the same time would request you to add more videos....the way you teach is very amazing and you make everything turn so simple...
Yes that is right....but there are few people who impart their knowledge the way you do...I mean your videos are the best I've seen so far...the way you give details of each color or medium whatever you are using and the way you teach each step...thanks a ton...
I have a sunset Dvd which is available for purchase at my website. I also have Free Lessons posted at jerrysartarama d o t com One of those lessons features a sunset sky. Check it out!
Acrylics dry much faster than Oils, so you can keep working right along and add detail. However, they are trickier to blend, so some folks consider that a disadvantage.
Fantastic!
