Thrash really didn't come from punk, it was definitely influenced by punk's speed, but it really came from a combination of metal and punk, dont make the mistake of thinking Thrash is the bastard child of punk or something. hell, just go back to Slayer, when they were forming, Kerry King was getting into heavier metal stuff and Jeff Hanneman had been getting into punk music. Slayer and the other bands of the big four realized they just wanted to play really fast. nuff said. these guys rule btw.
