Coen Bros. grew up in St. Louis Park in the Twin Cities. Way to go dude. In your opening line, you discredited your entire company and interview. Classy.

this film is very existential/Kierkegaardian. first the alliteration to the story of Abraham in the first part, then Larry with his existential crisis, then the painting of the scene at Mt. Moriah in the Rabbis office at the end, and Larry's life falling apart and becoming absurd, filling him with dread at the prospect of being swallowed up by infinity with god out of reach or seemingly not there. then transcends his ethical life out of desperation, coming to terms with god. best movie ever. 4*s
in the movie it does not specifically say "Hey I'm glad we live in Minnesota", but living in Minnesota I know that it was filmed in a Minneapolis suburb and the Coens wanted the movie to reflect their own struggles of growing up jewish in Minnesota.

hahaha incredible how everyone who says they have watched this film say they were already fans of the coen brothers, personally this 'black comedy' was shit because there was so little story progression. It took virtually no effort to win over their mindless drones with shit characters and a shit plot unlike true films like Stanley Kubricks Dr Strangelove, though I guess you can't beat the greats especially seeing as when Kubricks was 31 he had done Sparticus the Coens are 54/57 and have nothing
@Astrofootballer - I think you're just angry in general. Get over it. There are more important things to take a stance on. They're great filmmakers, maybe not your taste, but great.
Sparticus is a classic, it is what has gone down as a good film, I'm just tired of people who think just because I don't like the coens that I watch bullshit like transformers, anyway I agree with AardsmaAA there are more important things to take a stance on and there's no point in arguing otherwise I'm just denying you freedom of speech
@Astrofootballer If you were alive when The Shining and A Clockwork Orange came out you'd remember that everyone called it "modern bullshit" just like your calling this one, but became classics a few years later. The Coens easily rank among Stanley Kubrick, they put just as much symbolism in it and they're films look great too. Saying they have nothing is really ignorant.
@Astrofootballer well thats your opinion man... this film was a mind diver kind of movie lots of meanings behind things things that arent meant to be seen things that are meant to be seen and things that one cant see at first these are the things the coens are good at doing. and if you dont like it then you dont have to watch.
This is the most depressing movie: God is absent, only miseries around us, nobody happy, kids taking drugs to avoid the reality. People found it funny? Unless you are Jewish and recognize some stereotypes (your aunt, your lawyer, your rabbi...) this is no laughing matter.
I have been a big fan of the Coen brothers and in spite of the critics, I assure you the public is not going to like it.
I liked it. Mostly because it correctly illustrated the fact that God is absent, miseries are all around us, the kids are taking drugs to avoid reality....
