I remember the YMCA being in the mall right where the old movie theater used to be. EB games, Sam goody, I miss those places. :( I was 5 when they made this video
I think it's just about the greatest thing ever that you captured the glory of the san jacinto mall in it's prime. :D I've seen the other videos you have and they bring back a lot of memories. I mean i was a very small child being born in 91' but i still remember powerplay and the noise skee ball machines. Walking down the montgomery ward wing and the marshalls/service wing. the food court that had everything! not just one good vendor like now a days. It's a shame. :(
I spent many, many hours in this arcade from roughly years 1985-1997. It pains me to see what the San Jacinto mall has come to. I miss playing Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct after having eaten at Chik Fil A right there next to it. Such a shame.
@SlickEnz You are sooooo right. I get depressed when I visit (whats left of) the mall. It is now 80 percent empty, with nothing left but stores for gangbangers. (cell phones, junk jewelry, shoes & pimp clothes) They are walling up just about every wing. Depressing! The owners need to do a complete remodel or demolish NOW! The San Jacinto Mall does not deserve what has happened to it. :-(
Sadly, a remodel won't work I'm afraid. People that shopped in the glory days of the mall, like those in your video, have since moved to nicer areas and are going to nicer malls, or the internet, it's been a big slam on malls like San Jacinto.
They took all the stores I cared about out of the San Jacinto mall, and something I'll never forgive, they took out Picadilly! I think that was the last time I was there, when I saw they boarded up Picadilly. Depressing for sure.
i miss the old power play dont remember where it was. i think where the movies is now or close by there the new power play isnt that great as it was when i was 10 even thou i was born in the 90's i miss how the mall use to be. i too believe that it wont be llong until they tear it down
This mall was my sanctuary growing up. I really miss Sam Goodies with a passion and the old power play, it was so huge! It makes me kinda want to cry cause now this mall is trashy and even the movie theater is horrifying. I remember when there was two movie theaters in this mall :-(
thanks for posting this...it brings back a lot of good memories. I was 12 in 1991 and I visited the mall all the time and Power Play on the weekends I remember the malls "glory days", when it was full of name-brand stores. I remember going to The Gap in particular...now it's all The Crap. My friends and I had a lot of fun at the mall & I'm glad that at least if nothing, my generation as kids got to enjoy the mall as it was intended to be. I just wish kids here had things to do.
Yes, I really miss the mall the way it used to be.. I can't beleve they're letting it fall apart, It makes no sense! Tryiar Corp. which owns the mall also owns Pasadena Town Square, Greenspoint, & mall of the the mainland, which are in sad shape or worse, this company is a slumlord of malls, and it's only a matter of time that you will be hearing the bulldozers tear down what's left of our childhood memories. It will be a sad day. :-(
Jillians was the last arcade (though you needed a card!) in a mall and they recently closed down. Today's malls aren't as fun (overadvertising, traffic in the good ones, either high-end or disappointing). Big Box/Outdoor shopping/Urban renewal/Internet really has caused the mall's decline in the last 20 years.
I'll show my age saying this, but when the SJM opened in 1981, it was the best thing ever to happen to Baytown. I just can't believe the crappy mall owners let it turn into what it is today. :-(
the mall kind of recieved criticism from the moment it was built, but it aint like we knew that wards and service merchandise would be beaten out by big box centers such as bed bath and beyond, circuit city(RIP) and Best Buy
that so gives me the chills to see the simpson's arcade game, those were the days I can remember it like the other day being a little kid playing that game lol
well, the good thing about Cosmo Gang is that when you get Point Blank for the Nintendo DS, there's a minigame which is a recreation of CG (however in this version, the game speaks in japanese). they even have recreations of Shoot Away 2, Wacky Gator, and Cracky Crab
God those were the days. I used to get out of high school at noon. If I didn't have to work I would go to the Silverball arcade at the mall until about 8 pm. I miss mall life...ha ha.

Haha, "this thing hurts your shoulder!" You know it's 1991 when the video camera gives you muscle cramps! By the way, that first game looked fun.
