@vgchris1 Go to watercrown.info and get the BoF2 ROM Check application from the Translations page. If you have a headered U.S. ROM, it'll remove the header for you.
@vgchris1 No, I don't. Does the initial checksum upon starting the retrans for the first time work properly? If so, it's probably a problem with your emulator.
The patch uses "Owaranai Ai" by default, but it also comes with two bonus patches that you can use to change the intro theme. One is, of course, "Through the Fire and Flames", but the other is - drumroll please - the original intro theme music. That's right, I figured out how to restore it. Fun times, eh?
I like the other alternate theme a lot better. Other than being called "Through the Fire and Flames" and being played by a band called Dragonforce, this song is a poor fit.
You need to apply the two patches in sequence: first the BoF2 Retranslation Patch (to a clean unheadered U.S. ROM, of course), then the TTFaF patch. I know patching a patched ROM isn't SOP, but it was the best way I could think of to cut the knot, as it were.
I wasn't sure what to make of what Atlus did with the opening to Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner at first, but nowadays, I think the theme song change suits the intro. Pray may be the game's major leitmotif, but the vocals are kinda weak for the imagery used.
And while I'm on the subject, the Watercrown name, logo and accompanying music are all also from DDS: Avatar Tuner. Yeah, I'm a Shin Megami Tensei fan (and by extension, a fan of Shoji Meguro's music).
Ugh. Yeah. Tell the other guy to take it out. It'd be so much better if it used classical game music (doesn't even have to be from BoF2, just as long as it follows suit with the typical game MIDI style). The introductions are nice (albeit a bit lame for a few. "Taketa the Happy"? You can do better, surely), but the lyricized music just makes this completely obnoxious.
They're from the Japanese version, although fudged slightly in some cases (Lin's and Bosch's, obviously, and "The Fated Child" was originally "The Fatal Child").
And "the other guy" hasn't been involved in this project in almost a year. His final contribution (the source code) came only after several months of silence. I'd have to take the intro out myself, and there's no guarantee I'd be able to restore the original title screen without killing the logos as well.
Don't blame me, blame d4s. He's the one who replaced the original title screen with this intro.
Check out ShinrinCole's "Breath of fire 2 german translation" video to see (and hear) the version with Owaranai Ai. It's not a bad song, but it's not a Breath of Fire theme. Neither is TtFaF, I'll admit, but it's at least closer in spirit to the original title screen music. I'd have removed the new intro already if I could figure out how to do so without breaking the logos.
Thanks for the awesome retranslation and intro dude, really makes the game have a rush of energy in the beginning I feel.

You know, for a hair metal theme, it actually doesn't sound too bad! Nice!

@TheRyusui Isn't it awesome when all your hard work to give the fans what they've wanted for so long results in... nitpicking and whining? Ugh. :\
My condolences, dude.
In any event, your re-translation is frickin amazing, and it breathed new life into an old favorite, for me. Thanks for everything. :)

I've downloaded it and dragonforce's song won't work. I need some help to get rid of that annoying girl and that shitty song.

I don't care if it sucks or not. This is what companies should do with their games.
Dragonforce suits BoF series perfectly and not every opening from japanese games needs to have a shitty utada hikaru song.
