  • Everyone should try Linda Ronstadt's version. She is amazing.

  • oh my g`od they just dont make music like this anymore man I swear. looooovvvvveee it.

  • you no good you no good you no good you no good )

  • i bet i'm not the only one sampling this joint

  • Bluesy soulful "You're No Good" by Betty Everett is the fiery original & definitive version and launched the career of one of the greatest voices from the sixties and beyond! Bravo Betty & RIP great lady...

  • Thank you for this great original from Betty Everett - what a clear and powerful voice backed by great orchestra harmonics.

    thank you...

    L

  • A very smooth, jazzy version. Worth giving lots of thought and play time.

  • Bob Dylan did this song on his first album. Betty Everett's is perfection.

  • @ohfreegazanow Nonsense, he did a different song with the same title!

  • I loved Danielle Lauderdales version of this song on cmts next superstar :)

  • What a lovely voice! Ronstadt should have left this song alone!

  • @jolvare go on the linda fatstadt version posted by gizamax and say that. You'll be called a hater. I like this version myself.! I upset a lot of people on the other.

  • What a lovely voice!

  • i like this song i heard it on some hillarious movie on comedy central i loled so hard i woke up my mom hahahahahaha it took me a few seconds to make this comment im getting better at typing hahahahaha so many lols everywhere hahahaha im such a loling lolifer

  • God, how many brilliant performers and fantastic songs we have, that are completely buried now under the piles of those cheesy and tastless wanna-be-singers that we keep seeing on our screens today...

  • I really, really like this one... I first heard Van Halen's version and I thought that the original might not be that good, and although it's a very different style, I really like it!

  • found this through necro and am diggin this song as well

  • never heard the original till now....she had an awesome voice

  • @steelertim69 This isn't the original...this is only the first chart topper. The original was done by Dionne Warwick's sister Dee Dee on Jubilee Records...quite a bit tougher.

  • Wow, nice to hear the original

  • @TJCATLOVER before it was released by dee dee warwick, sorry if i have mistakes in my english i'm from peru :)

  • @TJCATLOVER Dee Dee Sharpe did the original

  • @rockerbiff

I think you mean Dee Dee Warwick.

  • What a voice. She is talent 100%.

  • Thanks for sharing this... first time hearing the original. I think it is foolish to compare this to LR's version... especially considering both are flawless and both are cutting edge for the time in which they were recorded. Both singers were clearly feeling something when they performed. Both versions are amazing.

  • KICKIN THAT THUG SHIT SET IT! YOU'LL REGRET! YOU'RE WHOLE DEADED! WET UP, INFAREDDED!.....you must be sniffin that bullshit

  • Bartcmh Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Different Drum with the Stone Pony's made Rhonstadt a star b4 Her take on You're no good.... ?????

I only know from dad's collection of vinyl stretching back from the 50's (he must have got pocket money around about then :)

    Till 82 when he passed....Aged 49 .

    Cheers

    Shell from down under xxx

  • Wow ! what a great voice R I P Betty

  • 3 people are no good

  • What a voice perfect, her breaths at the start! its just 2minutes21seconds of perfection

  • Takes me back...

  • I never get tired of hearing this song- I love Betty Everett's voice - and there are so many other great songs- like The Shoe won't fit , Prince of PLayers, 1900 Yesterday, There'll come a time ......

  • This song made Linda Ronstadt's career. Before she released this song she was a star. After this song was released she was a superstar. It made me go out and buy the Heart Like a Wheel album. I knew this song was a remake but I never knew who did the original. Thanks for sharing.

  • You mean Necro music? Haha. Just kidding. Necro sampled this beat for his song, "Set It".

  • you are no good, you are the best!

  • This is definitely a good version of course. Gotta have respect for the originals, but I love how Linda Ronstadt added all that awesome guitar to the song. She really turned this song into a classic rock song. One of the best covers ever I would say

  • Folks, Love this and the way it,s done but.. Linda Ronstadt.s version on Midnight Express the voice, the look... just better. It's time honored.

  • I love the way she lets it fly in the last verse.

  • What a bullshit comments on such a great song....fools

  • @MarlonTeVrede How DID I guess you aren't from an English-speaking country? (Probably because of your typing 'bullshit', but aren't you required by international law to say "fuck" as much as possible?)

  • You should play the B side of this record.

  • I love Miss Everett's voice on this record ! R&B always is the best

  • Necro sampled this on Set It

  • @TheRelentlessEmir Necro = Musical genius, too bad the only part I like is the part he sampled heh

  • @ChristIllusion731 true the song is ight, but necro is god

  • Never heard this version,thanks for posting.Fantastic!!!

  • KarmicOmen, I have just discovered what you have 10 months ago. We are blessed!!!

  • Awesome! I'm SO glad to have stumbled upon it!!

  • This is the first time I've heard Betty Everett's version of "You're No Good" in stereo! A very young Maurice White (of Earth, Wind & Fire) was the drummer on this session.

  • Diferent spin on the Linda Ronstad song still good

  • anyone heard 'you're no good' by post-punk disco group ESG?

  • absolute class

  • MsDGoodwin, I used to live on 44th and Oakenwald and Im Betty's grandson. My grandma wont be able to see your comment here because she passed away 9 years ago. And her mother (my great grandma) just passed away 2 weeks ago. Thanks for thinking of my family. I really misses them.

  • Wow!! I have not heard/ Or playfuly song this song in the basement of her home in Cicago,She yelling down-stairs telling us to snig a little lower.[[ol] [On 43rd and Oakenwald ] With her namesake.[ Her daughter] We went to Charles H. Judd School. Betty, if you ever run across this, Know that your child hood friend Debra Goodwin, miss you and your mom, And think of you and her often. We also went too school with Muddy Water Grand-Daughter.[ Amelia Copper]

  • LOVE IT, LOVE IT! It's been a minute since I last heard this song. Still beautiful.

  • wooowwwwwwwwwww

  • soooooo hot

  • much better than Mrs. Lind !

  • There is NO other version of this like this one. It so beyond rocks. MEAN and sayin' it all!

  • Terrific intro.

  • Oops, wrong Betty. Both stars though.

  • @irkbeat I gets the Bettys and the Barbaras mixed up, too. Also "Breathe" and "Johnny Hates Jazz".

  • Brilliant! Never heard it before. Only knew Clean Up Woman. Cheers!

  • It's amazing how many of these "minor" soul singers c\could actually sing really well. TA lot of them sing better than pretty much all of the current popular R&B singers.

  • The Voice of an angel!

The World is a poorer place without her.

  • I remember hearing this version for the first time on the Horace Wink Dusty Disc show broadcasted on a Simi Valley Station called KWINK. Before that I only knew of the Linda Ronstadt version.

    Very nice.

  • This is "old school!" REAL "old school!" I like Linda's version, but THIS is IT! THIS is the 60's and THIS is "soul!!!" Perhaps people not of "old school" should not come to music like this. They certainly don't know what "soul music" was, they DON'T know about the sixties, and arguing which version is better is like comparing apples and oranges, Betty was soul and Linda was rock n roll, two different audiences. Black music wasn't accepted until covered by a white artist. Still the same crap!

  • @vanwindjammerjones: If Betty Everett wrote the song, she at least took a large chunk of Linda Rondstadt's earnings to the bank. See also the helpful relationship between Pat Boone and Little Richard in the 1950's.

  • you are very good

  • (continued)

"Fitzgerald simply exists in tune, and she hits every note that there is without the slightest trace of effort. Other singers tend to sound like they're trying to reach up to a note, but Fitzgerald always sounds like she's already there. If anything, she's descending from her heavenly perch and swooping down to whatever pitch she wants."

  • FWIW ... an interesting comparison between two of my favorite singers with the same song:

    Linda:

    watch?v=KHtKAv6gCVc

    Ella:

    watch?v=qYPoEGAttB8

  • wow who knew Linda R stole this song! lol love betty!

  • Wow..so many songs I like that I've been finding out lately are covers!!! Nice post!!!

  • Very soulful, smooth and funky.

  • Van Halen's version is number two. Get that through your head

  • The only version in my opinion. Fell in love with this song when I saw the infamous scene from the movie "House"...

  • The originator! Fine looking Betty. Van Halen did it. I like to sing it with bad language

  • "Swinging blue jeans" did the best cover of this song

  • I like Linda, but this one more beautiful..

  • This is so good it's incredible.

  • No offense to Linda Ronstadt, but she should have left this one alone. She didn't even come close. Sometimes ya just gotta leave the original alone.

  • @smokiebird06 . So true.

  • @smokiebird06 Music world is a cover. Elvis and Frank Sinatra sang My Way, The Beatles with Rock and Roll Music, somebody made a beautiful cover after the Linda's Blue bayou song. I myself, when I sing my John Fogerty songs I am making a cover. All I can say is that Linda and Betty have beautiful voices...¡Viva la Música!.

  • @smokiebird06 Linda's versions blows this one away. You can beat Linda's version for passion, one of the best vocals ever.

  • HA! Linda is clearly trying to be black. Ya, Linda blows. Don't pull any sales pitch as you probably have a stake in Linda. People who say negative things about "competitors" on the internet these days are too much untrustworthy.

  • @MalibuCornelius I think Linda has recorded all types of music. I'm not a fan of Linda Ronstadt personnly because I despise her liberal political activism but she is possbility the best overall singer in the 20th century. No slight against this singer but this is rather vanilla compared to the vocal laid down by Ronstadt.

  • @GOODY61 - I agree with you about her views and her talent. MalibuCornelius is really way off the mark with his contention Linda is trying to be black. I cannot even remotely understand that one! Ronstadt is a multi-cultural/language/genre phenomena that likely will not be equalled for decades; if ever. Others may do the same material well, but Ms. Ronstadt, views notwithstanding, is one of a kind.

  • @vinha1006

After pop music career, Linda Ronstadt went on to sing opera ... 'nuf said ... :-)

But as far as best overall female singer of the 20th century, my vote goes with the velvet voice of Ella Fitzgerald.

  • @wfmkk Good thing we're allowed to have different opinions ;) - I love Betty's version of many songs, but Ronstadt has all the rest hands down. Ella just never did appeal to my tastes. Dionne Warrick sure did smoke though!

  • @wfmkk

Ella's probably my favorite singer too. Although Ann Peebles would be a close number two. : )

  • Comment removed

  • A classic song! Betty: um...Wow! ;)

  • The original version was recorded by Dee Dee Warwick. Linda puts more into it and I like her version better.

  • @Ardalla555 Linda's cover is based on the Dee Dee Warwick version. Dee Dee put waaay more into it.

  • Change the lyrics because they ain't no good, no good!!!

  • VIVA NECRO

  • Van Halen brought this song to me... Thanks.. nice to finally hear the original!!!

  • I am finally DONE & it only took me 16 yrs.

"You are no good and I accept that you never were."

I tried and tried, but I am done!

  • Well, I will say that Lindas vocals at least stand up to Betty's version but Linda's band and arrangement are way better. Of course, they also had the benefit of over 10 years of industry experience and technical advancement.

  • SO COOL !!!!

  • With all due respect to Linda Ronstadt, her version can't come close to this version by Betty Everett.

Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520 KOMA

  • This is the Best Rendition of this Song.... Ever Done!

  • NECRO!!!

  • Thanks for posting! Linda Ronstadt never improved the songs she remade, but she did pick some good ones to redo. Betty's is definitely more soulful, and I also love the Swinging Blue Jeans cover that was done shortly afterward.

  • just like america to plagiarize...jesus what a classic!

  • @coronaqueen221 Because no one but an American has ever done a cover song!

  • I always thought that Linda Ronstadt sang this originally. I love Betty!!! She is so pure in this

  • Betty Everett surely got what it takes... amazingly enjoyable .... 5stars

  • Just fab so goooooooodddd!

  • Just fab

  • ditto KarmicOmen's comment...never knew that Linda Ronstadt's song was a COVER, stumbled across the ORIGINAL in a comment referring to it...just goes to show what a LOT of people have told me over the years, and i live by it myself: you can remake a song WELL, but NOTHING compares to the original...

  • This is fantastic!!! but i prefer the Van Halen version

  • know it from didi... this song is hot man!

  • love it,,,

  • it took me forever to find out the original artist of this song.

  • Swinging Blue Jeans ?

  • does anyone know the name of the guy who sang this song

i thought it was the band the animals but i cant find out the name of the guy who sang this song

cuz the guy version of this song is the best

if anyone knows who it is

    let me know

  • @ziggler1991 hey been tryin 2 find it myself.. i too thought it was the animals.. its on old style radio stations sumtimes but canr remember...

  • @ziggler1991 its swinging blue jeans dude

  • danggg. i love this song.

  • Nice! Our band just started doing this song- love this version! very difficult vocally, (for me anyway), but very fun to do! major respect to Betty and Linda for their vocal prowess on these tunes!

  • Man, oh man! Now THAT's singing! As they used to say on American Bandstand: I'll give it a 75 - easy to dance to and great lyrics! BklynBoy

  • WOW! I love it! The only version I ever knew was Linda Ronstadt's version, but this is ... WOW is all I can say!

  • @KarmicOmen ... All that you can say is ... GREAT SONG GREAT VOICE GREAT MUSIC ... GREAT ALL MISTER G

  • @KarmicOmen Dont forget about Van Halen's verion

  • also, the "tape loop" version by Terry Riley (1966 ? about 15 minutes) is really incredible : spiraling inside the music and hypnotic.

  • I never heard or heard of this song until Linda Ronstadt did it, but I am glad I've gotten to know this rendition now, too.

  • negro music is the best.

  • The best version..but the Searcher's & Linda Rondstadt's worth listening to...

    a SUPERB PERFOMER !!!

  • But you are good black honey....com on and take my baddyyyyyyyy....let's shake it on deep on youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu*****

    P.S Older favouritaa

  • WOW! i like this! as always the original version is always great. linda ronstadt's version is still my favorite.

  • oh yes....

  • I remember The Swinging Blue Jeans version and I was told that it was a Betty Everett cover and I just had to hear it. Thanks.

  • this version is so smoooth

  • Great "Oldie" and its' composed music ! Sure appreciate hearing it again - after sooooo long !

  • This song is so true - I mean the way she sings it.

by the way at 0:49 isn't that "I left a boy for someone like you" rather than "I broke a heart over someone like you"?

  • Wow! I never listened to the original song, the cover I know is from Van Halen's 2nd album, fantastic!!

  • i can't find this to download anywhere!

  • as is the case with all great music from the past.

unless it's a big name, you won't find it.

so, what are you waiting for? Throw out your mp3 player and go buy a turntable and dig out some old records and learn where it all came from

  • so true...i NEVER stopped using my turn table...and use it often...sometimes only listening to vinyl for weeks at a time...teach these newbies something about MUSIC!

  • Could someone post the Dee Dee Warwick version please?

  • JBL sampled this joint...

  • I'd love to hear her song "Black Girl", it was done for a 1972 movie of the same name.

  • Days of the Record hops!

    Sly

  • When this came out, in 1963 I think, we thought this was the most incredible sound we had ever heard... and it still takes some beating. My original vinyl 45 has worn out! Betty Everett was way before her time.. a real icon!

  • flying high on the charts in November 1963.

  • i never heard this version before. Linda Ronstadt did a great cover that was all her own, this one has a more RB feel. Both have super voices...

  • Welcome to the real-deal-school-original-old school SOUL---never duplicated, ALWAYS imitated....

    Peace! from an old schooler.

  • What a pure and strong voise!Very good song!

  • Back in the 1960's, I dedicated this song to my boyfriend at least once a week. She said well.

  • The horns really give this the R and B feel. I, like others, grew up with the Ronstadt version which I've always liked because it's so moody. It's also got the extra guitar bridge/interlude part, so it doesn't really work to compare these - they're quite different. Both are great, which I think is a credit to the songwriter.

  • Such a soulful voice. Love this song.

  • I grew up with the Ronstadt version and didn't know Betty did it till I found this track and found a 45 within a few weeks. What a great ytrack!

  • Great song and a charming lady!

  • This was the original hit version of this classic song, 12 years before Linda Ronstadt turned it into a #1 hit on the pop singles chart. Dee Dee Warwick is credited with recording the very first version of this song, but only by a few weeks before this version was recorded by Betty Everett.

  • I have the orignal 45 of this, purchased when I was 12. I still love this song today. I never liked Linda Ronstadt's version.
